Kog is terrible right now because Riot wrecked his mid-game

Quick explanation for those who don't understand why the Juggermaw comp worked.

Old Kog had a really powerful mid-game spike. One of the strongest when he was actually good. He didn't have the tools to be as amazing late game as more self sufficient Marksmen with better scaling steroids, but that was fine. He rocked mid game with his old Ult, old Trinity, and unnerfed Bork without falling off late game the way early lane bullies do.

However, Kog has now lost every single one of those tools.

See, for the Protect The Kog comp to work Kog needed a strong mid game.

Why?

Because that's when team fights and skirmishes start in earnest. And if your team is high utility with only one real source of damage (The Kog) that damage needs to be relevant by the time team fights are happening. And if he isn't? Then the whole comp is utterly pointless. May as well just pick MF and do some wombo instead.

If Riot actually wants Protect the Kog to be a thing, then his Mid Game is going to have to get beastly again. And with the nerfs Kog ate to his core items, that means he's going to have to get some buffs to his base damage values. That might mean WAY more poke damage on his Ult. That might mean buffing the %HP damage on his W. That might mean lowering his Q cooldown and making it a reliable tool for trading and DPS. That might mean giving him an Innate that's actually relevant to his kit.

That definitely means that Riot will have to make some proactive changes and really get a grasp on how and why Kog worked in the past. Because right now it is abundantly clear that they don't.

KogMaw Lulu still works like a charm

Ah, but here's the real question.

Does it work better than Lulu + any other late game auto-attack focused Marksmen?

I would argue no.

So play less Zyra and pick up Lulu? That one game doesn't dictate Kog'maw's power.
