Lux's matchups

TekkenPlayer··7 votes·2,400 views

Not here to defend Lux, I can honestly admit that she new masteries + fqc made her laning 100% more annoying, but the boards exaggerate how strong she really is..

I'd however reduce the casting speed of E and make Ult disruptable. Other than that, I'd like to discuss the matchups

Diana Completely destroys her if she is fortunate enough to reach 6 without dying

Galio Galio is tickled

Kassadin The shield reduces the E harass and if you just do your full combo if she is near minions, she will not have a nice day. If she misses snare you just cream all over her

Katarina Bind does not stop ult

Morgana 9/10 counter if you play the matchup right

Yasuo Yasuo has the edge if he uses windwall and E dmg procs carefully

Syndra Bjerg rekt a myriad of lux players in LCS by taking advantage of the Q, E, W combo which gives her little opportunity to react

Velkoz Skillmatchup, I don't believe binding stops his ult, but it is in Lux's favor tbh

Vladimir Literal cancer for her once he gets revolver

Zed Zed is just anti-lux completely

Talon You blink near the creep waves

Riven Same algorithm for fighting Lux. Shield E, All-In her if she misses snare. Shit even bait it if need be.

Ahri Pre-6 Lux has the advantage but Q really HURTS because of her base stats. 6 is usually just the typical all-in, she will need to do some madlife guesses to land her binding off

Kennen Not sure why but when I played this matchup it went successful since no reliance on mana resource and you can just dance around in Ult. Just me though

Viktor Skill matchup. Q on minions/lux to reduce the dmg of trades.

Orianna REALLY hard matchup since she is incredibly safe, negates E dmg with her E and can be more useful in teamfights since Lux is more of a pick-heavy champion.

Lulu Same as Orianna

Anivia : Annoys lux since she can just sit back and waveclear without snowballing lane

MonkeyKing E-Q, W do NOT WALK BACK, walk to the side

Renekton Strong pick

Fizz It's not so much that Fizz is mobile, it's more so that fizz can dodge her E then go back to CSing as usual

Gangplank Oranges

Alistar Works, W-Q hurts

Sona Battle of the squishies, one with sustain other with shield

Mordekaiser too tanky

Xerath Skill matchup slightly Lux's favor

LeeSin It's Lee Sin..

Do not play: Azir Brand Heimerdinger Akali {{championMalzahar Zilean Ziggs Annie Cassiopeia Leblanc Nidalee Veigar

Debatable: Maokai Nautilus Fiora Ekko Corki Karma Shaco Urgot DrMundo Swain TwistedFate XinZhao Chogath

Items that usually work against her. item 3001 item 3102 item 3028 item 3812 item 3140 item 3157 item 3027 item 3222

A grand total of 2 of your listed options to play against Lux have a win rate of over 50% against her (in platinum+ ranked, where players should know what they're doing). They have a combined play rate mid lane of 0.73% (i.e. are severe pocket picks). The majority, especially ones you seem to think go really against Lux' favor, have Lux with win rates above 53% and a fair number with over 56%.

She's strong. Too safe for how much damage she does. You can't kill a Lux in lane unless she really misplays badly, or you have mad coordinated tower diving skills (which is why she's not OP in the pro league).

TekkenPlayer1 votes

I agree that she is extremely safe enough to usually wreck the average player, and she is not very demanding to use properly.

Where is the source from btw?

scroll down and click show more on either of the counter columns. All numbers listed are Lux's win rates in either column.

You can click see overall stats for any champion at the top (which is where I got the pick rates from). Multi-role champions you'll need to select the role on the top left. It will often default to loading their most commonly played role.

Says that even in 2014-2015, Lux stayed relatively in the same spot in around the 51-53% area. She was strong for centuries, though I think that the FQC and thundelord era made her complete overkill

Also statistics are iffy acknowledging that they are prone to error regarding matchups instead of just pure win rates since for example the site only collects a handful of summoners that play Zed occasionally, but does not main Zed per say

And why if she is so talked-about, enrages ADCs and immobile laners at a almost 0% ban rate?

ValyrianBlade3 votes

She has been strong for a long time. She was played less though (I think) and she was still complained about (just not as much due to being played less). There were definitely loads of complaints when she received her latest buffs in 5.12 and 5.17 - she didn't need them and people quickly said as much - I feel like someone on Riot's balance team is a Lux main :P

I agree that the statistics aren't the greatest. They're the best we really have though. It just supports the sentiment, it doesn't make it on its own.

The ban rate is so low / the complain rate is so high because of champions like Graves. There are so many good bans right now that a lot of people don't think about Lux. I actually prioritize Lux as my second priority ban after Graves. I'd imagine a lot of players have her in their top 5-10 bans, but she doesn't actually get banned due to each player only getting 1.

Her play rate is really high though. Which is why people complain. They see her all the time and she always does well.

Win rate isn't everything. There's other reasons Lux is winning those games.

Left Hook Larry1 votes

I know that you silver kids think that winning lane = winning game, but it doesn't

Lux gets shit on all of these in lane. If she has a higher win rate against its because out of lane she is one of the best champs for

Lux doesnt have any counters, statistically speaking

I'ma go through these one by one.

Diana LOL. Not going to anything Pre-6, post-6 she's never gonna get in range of Lux.

Galio Yes, Lux will probably never kill him, but Galio will also never kill Lux. This isn't a negative matchup for Lux, this is a neutral matchup where neither champ can kill each other so they just farm. Lux has better roams so I'd say this is a win for her.

Kassadin Much like Diana, has an aweful pre-6. Post 6 it only takes one snare to kill him. He also doesn't have the damage til waaaaaaay late game to get through Lux's shield.

Katarina This lane is hell for Kat. You know what the Bind does stop? Her E. You know what has more range than all of Kat's abilities? All of Lux's abilities. Kat will never get anywhere near Lux. Teamwide shield also ensures that none of Kat's targets die before Kat does.

Morgana Even lane. Most likely they'll go 0/0 in lane and when it comes to late game, Lux wins. Battle of the safe mages.

Yasuo Assuming the Lux is ass, yeah this is probably a bad matchup for her. Otherwise, absolutely not.

Syndra Saying a pro beat another pro with this champ vs that one isn't an argument for why Lux has a negative matchup. I'd say even match up in lane, which means it comes down to who's got more utility. I'll give you a hint who that is: It's not Syndra.

Velkoz Binding outranges Vel's E. Lux wins.

Vladimir Never going to get in range of Lux. Lux can just as easily build Morellos as Vlad can build spellvamp.

Zed Literally Zed's worst matchup. Also, arguing against Lux having no negative matchups by mentioning a character with very few negative matchups doesn't really help your case.

Kennen Eyyyyy never gonna get near Lux.

Viktor short-medium range mage vs high range mage. Lux wins.

Riven One snare is all it takes.

Talon Never gonna get near her.

Orianna Skill matchup. I'll give ya this one.

Lulu Don't have enough experience with this one to have input. Instinct tells me that Lux outranges Lulu.

Anivia Shitty pre-6 with short range. No chance.

MonkeyKing Never gonna get near.

Renekton Never gonna get near.

Fizz Both counter each other. Fizz with high mobility to dodge, Lux with the lockdown to keep him from using two of his spells. Comes down to who has the better team utility. Lux.

Ahri One snare and you're dead. Lux has a lot more range. With shield, Ahri has little chance of killing her without ignite.

Gangplank Yeah I'll give you that.

Sona No.

Alistar Never gonna get in range.

Mordekaiser Absolutely not in a million years going to get in range.

Xerath Lux's CC has more range, Xerath binds himself for free easy combos. Lux has the shield to survive ult barrage.

LeeSin Yea it's Lee Sin, a champion heavily relying on mobility which Lux stops. Lux stomps this lane.

I lost interest when you said Zed and Vlad can beat her haha lol, I do agree with Galio and maybe morg though.

Actually, experience teaches me otherwise. Lux often (and should imo) starts with item 3028 against Ahri. Combined with her shield, Ahri has almost no chance of killing her before she gets under her tower. You end up blowing your ults cooldown with little to show for it. Lux may even TP back to the lane. If its a fight in the river though, you can kill her. But in lane, I prefer to just shove and roam on Ahri. Lux's waveclear is a little weak, she's terrible at roaming and won't win a river duel if she follows you, and she's risking her life if she pushes your tower.

Lux item 3092 item 3116 item 3047 item 3157 shits on zed

see, this is th next thing. you can bet your ass that item 3092 is gonna get some significant changes soon, since almost every ap mid laner is using it right now. its a support item thats not really supposed to be picked up by them, and it has a really strong synergy with lux kit.

the ghosts can sniff out fleeing enemies at a rather long distance, slowing them for a laser snipe.

its also a really awesome tool against assassins. the ability to just drop the ghosts to see if there is an assassin around somewhere saved my life countless times while playing her.

this was one of the main reasons i used to get twin shadows on her. but this is also a gp10 item, which makes it ridiculously cost efficient.

if this item gets nerfed, her winrate is probably going to drop another notch.

id really hate to see a nerf to lux herself before they fiddle around with duskblade, frost queens and possibly thunderlord again.

Critmaster Garen1 votes

how about her passive just doesnt count to a thunderlords stack anymore? the ability to proc thunderlords with one e and a single auto attack is 50% of her strength in lane right now and makes a lot of her poke.

while it is kindof cool that she can do that, if there is any point at which shes to lose power, then rather this than anything else. masteries come and go with each season, and if they nerf her kit now, those nerfs will stick, even when they remove thunderlords again in 8 month and replace it with new masteries. and that would suck.

it would be one of the many cases where a champion is nerfed because of a new item or mechanic, that later gets removed and she still wont get compensated.

ill also have to say, that before anything is done with her, we should wait and see what duskblade does to the game. if theyre gonna seriously buff ad assassins like this, this will be a huge hit to her viability in general, as those champions are gonna see a lot more play and are like kryptonite to her.

nerfing her and buffing ad assassins who hard counter her in the same patch is kindof overkill.

TekkenPlayer1 votes

Another good idea is to just nerf the passive damage early and compensate such with scaling.

this would also work well. people complain a lot about her e poke, and while it is really reliable, it also doesnt deal a lot of damage and isnt very frequent (10 seconds base cooldown). she also runs out of mana really fast if she wants to poke with her e a lot.

its nowhere near as frustrating than lets say ziggs constant q poke.

a little bit of health and mr is already enough so she runs out of mana before the poke with her e becomes really dangerous to you.

kennen can proc thunderlords with just his W at lvl 1. passive hit counts as two hits cause of the physical and magic dmg on the hit and then the auto track lightening strike makes the third hit. just saying. . .lux inst the only one that can proc thunderlords from one skill.

See, I'm thinking xerath could be a fun matchup into her. Most of lux's kit is pretty short-range, allowing him to poke her before she can do much back. His passive also gives him less reliance on a blue buff, allowing you to just generally out-sustain her. Xerath

TekkenPlayer1 votes

If she lands Q, you just E, W, Q and walk away, with you're hp probably at 60% and hers around 40%. Its more so that Lux's E is easier to land, and less sidesteppable than say Xerath's Q so it's slightly in her favor. As she goes in for the E, auto trade she will just W if you try to react.. at the expense of using alot of mana. So it depends..

Troiann3 votes

Her Q is longer range than Xerath E. Hers also isn't blocked by the first minion too.

Lux is broken as shit.

TekkenPlayer2 votes

Not sure how you press R without getting binded or deal with the constant E's pre-6 lol

Iceember1 votes

Constant? She would be oom pretty quick. Main start for akali is boots 4. That and mastery that gives bonus nd out of combat = 370 - 388 ms. Not too hard to dodge when you see it coming. Not to mention shroud gives bonus movespeed too.

As for getting binded when I "press r". There are a few scenarios that play out:

  1. Lux is oom from harass and can only bind me without follow up.

  2. I bait out the bind. This way the rest of her combo is useless.

  3. I've done a good job through poke and small trades in lane that the bind won't matter as it isn't a stun so I'm in range to Auto attack, e, q, ignite, etc and she does before she can get a full combo off.

  4. If I have more than a kill worth of farm over her, through poke and small trades / a gank. I back pick up revolver. Revolver = 18% spellvamp for me.
