Urgot Shield Scaling with Mana 1

LoL Ergo Urgot··38 votes·3,049 views

He needs it riot.

Just wanted to throw something out there. Maybe could we see his base shield levels lowered like Nautilus but to compensate be given better scaling.

Don't know just spit balling.

YES! I have said this forever. He already is a blue build fighter, it would make so much sense. I truly think Urgot is one buff away from being a great top laner, and this would be one buff that would make it.

Chimalpopica, my favorite topgot player started using iceborn gauntlet in rare occasions but the ap scaling is just so useless and a 280 shield is not that good late game. :(

Giovarco1 votes

Chimalpopica is one of the most famous Urgot main. However, I can assure that there are a lot of Urgot main over there (like me and I know another guy).

item 3025 is a situational item on Urgot. I builded it sometimes, when I was fed and I could almost build glass cannon because my tank could give me time to actualize his DPS. The majority of Urgot players opt for item 3110, which has a good sinergy with the reputation of Urgot being an anti-carry (because of the armor and the passive).

What Is Smite1 votes

I didn't think Urgot was a blue build type champion, I actually build him similar to Jayce but swap out FH for Omen. Would like to hear how in actual hell you build Urgot as a champion though since he doesn't see much play at all elo's like some dude I forgot his name it was like ___ Mori

Giovarco1 votes

I think that Jayce's build is similar to Urgot's, but Jayce tends to go glass cannon, but Urgot goes tanky in late game. My build is normally: item 3043 item 3071 item 3110 item 3102 item 3035 item 3047 .

Another reason why item 3110 is good on him is because of the CDR. Urgot needs a lot of CDR, so he can connect his combo more often and be less punished if he misses it.

regardless of how bad urgot/yorick situation is,

they have to be very carefull in buffing him its only a matter of time before people realize the power or item 3508

that item alone gave me a 70%+ win rate with yorrick last season with like 70+ games.

Maybe on Yorick, but on Urgot that item is useless... and expensive. Just a noob trap XD

is infinity edge expensive? yes

its all about slot efficiency and essence reaver is like the infinity edge to me when it comes to ad casters like urgot and yorick.

granted i never really tried it on urgot i don't play him much.

Giovarco1 votes

ADC items like item 3031 and item 3508 aren't very useful on Urgot. He doesn't waste his time autoattacking and he has no enough range and attack speed to do it. Unfortunately, considering his kit, Urgot hasn't a lot of build path. This is why, I guess, all Urgot mains play him like an AD-Caster. On the contrary, I know that Yorick build item 3078, which is another useless item on Urgod. However, if you never tried Urgot, do it :)

Giovarco1 votes

He's already a great top laner :)

LoL Ergo Urgot2 votes

He is a great top laner, but I am hoping his shield could scale in a way to help the late game. Lategot, if you will.

Giovarco1 votes

To be honost, I don't care if they buff him or not. He has good utility and damage late game. His ultimade is game changing if used with brain.

Focus Teemo6 votes

Why not? It would help him, and he certainly could use a buff.

Meep Man5 votes

At this point anything that isnt absurd that helps Urgot will be upvoted to make him viable. He is so bad.

freeformline3 votes

I don't think he's entirely bad, but he is definitely not a safe blind pick choice. I love Urgot in draft mode, because he will absolutely destroy some match-ups and teams despite his awful early game and low mobility.

Avios14 votes

Acually, I generally build him AD, but I could see it scale off of mana. But it could also scale off of AD if you guys really wanted to. (I love urgot Top, its my main champ)

aaronconlin5 votes

Yes he's AD, but people tend to build item 3042 and sometimes item 3025 on him

DrCyanide3 votes

I think their point is that Riven already has a shield that scales with AD, so it's not out of the question for Urgot to get an upgrade to his so it scales that way.

Regardless, unless Acid Hunter starts applying On-Hit effects and Urgot players can take Lich Bane, the shield scaling with AP doesn't make much sense.

aaronconlin3 votes

Except this thread isn't asking for the shield to scale with AP, it's asking for the shield to scale with MANA

Vesarixx3 votes

It already scales with AP is I think the point there, which is pretty useless to him, mana would be an improvement for sure.

Annunziato4 votes

They were talking about it when they changed his Q (Acid Hunter) but they decided to push through one buff at a time. To see where the first change left him. He does need something changed with his W, and even having it scale with something like Armor/MR could solidify his spot as a top laner.

TheFrozenIsles3 votes

I fully agree his shield should run off mana.

AranciaMechanics3 votes

He surely needs a buff like this one.

For people who complain about his "lack of counterplay" (which is absurdly false), if urgot misses his E you have a window of plenty 10 seconds to punish him, way more counterplayable than any average toplaner (I.E. if Riven misses a combo and/or her stun, you have way more less time to trade before she gets her CDs back, or Gnar: you can't duel him in mega-form, yet you are damned to be kited until death in mini-form, this applies to many other champion whose window of counterplay is rather shorter than Urgot).

A solution could use a bit of clarity too: add a circle predicting where the grenade will land, just like they did with Karthus and Vel'Koz skills. The current skillshot is kinda slow and you will have plenty of time to dodge it. If you don't succeed in dodging it, you deserved those Acid Hunters.

It isn't to do with counterplay though. It is to do with binary results. Dodge E = almost certain win. Hit E = almost certain loss.

This kinda reminds me of Fizz current state and his ult... Due to his natural lack of stats, short range and pityful shield, urgot is forced to avoid close quarter combats in early game in his current state (and this is good indeed, if you manage to get him before he gets tanky you can easily dispatch him). A BONUS mana scaling shield could open up to many strategies beyond the "stay back and EQQQ" tactic.

Furthermore, I do not see different results inbetween the two you mentioned. There's victory and loss with every champ: if you manage to land your abilities you are prone to win, if you miss them, you will probably lose. It's manichean

Something from My Little Pony.

This would be a great start towards bringing him back into viability.

bulldoggamer2 votes

That is a great idea. But it would prob be better served as a 3 to 1 ratio rather than 1 to 1

Urgot has more problems than just balance. Unfortunately I doubt riot want to see him in a balanced/viable state until those problems are removed.

what problems are we talking about here?

i mean how overbearing can he be? he was in the same scenario as yorick an imobile bruiser that did what a bruiser did best. then riot decided that lee sin should have that role and all champs that were like urgot got nerfed to the ground.

kalista is way worse much kite much plays much wow much lcsplayz

LongFur Fox1 votes

Kalista has some problems but she pays for them in a real way. Sure she can kite but due to her mobility being very clunky you can also bait out her jump backwards and then run away. She also has one of the worst steroids for adc's.

Enough of that though urgots problems lies in that his ultimate does not really belong anywhere on the kit, he has a very binary pattern of "hit e spam q's", and his class weakness (I would argue his class is adc) is something he overcomes which usually is not a good thing.

Unfortunately it seems like you are blinded with unreasonable riot hate.

Giovarco1 votes

Enough of that though urgots problems lies in that his ultimate does not really belong anywhere on the kit

The only problem of Urgot's ultimate is his range at level 1, really. His ultimate is game changing IMO because punishs heavily squishy targets who are out-of-position.

his class weakness (I would argue his class is adc) is something he overcomes which usually is not a good thing.

His stats scales like an ADC, even if he's an AD-Caster, but I guess He's balanced around these stats, so Riot won't change that.

LongFur Fox1 votes

The major problem with his ult is not its range but that he trades places. As one of the major damage dealers you don't really want to be in the middle of the enemy team. As a side note I think I remember riot saying they dislike supresses.

I do however think riot intents to change him. In the same way that they changed sion. However he is a pretty large job with few very hardcore fans and he is not toxic on the same scale as poppy or other champions. Those things take him very low on the priority list so I doubt he will be buffed to "viability" in a long time.

Giovarco1 votes

Urgot mains like me never swap position with the intention of being in the middle of the enemy team. Really, It's just stupid. In effect, I said:

His ultimate is game changing IMO because punishes heavily squishy targets who are out-of-position.

If I swap with an out-of-position target, I won't be in the middle of the team. However, in general I agree that suppress isn't so healthy for the game, but definetevely not toxic IMO.

Akenero2 votes

this...would do wonders for urgot's shield O_O I build urgot adc with a lot of mana items, such as heart and manamune.

Iittala1 votes

No thanks..... This sounds great on paper to have urgots shield scale on mana but this forces urgot into an even more reliant state. The shields base value is very high as it stand right now.

Actually urgot is getting closer and closer to becoming a pick or ban champion as the roster keeps expanding with more assassins. The amount of CC is just dropping on teams. and urgot wrecks main squisy champions even assains. Truthfully too urgot doesnt care at all about dashes. His ability is to not care about how far away his target is.

If the targeting on champion vs. minnion got updated that would be great. similair to many supports like morganna black shield. or like how karma shield needs to get updated.

Giovarco2 votes

I agree that Urgot is very strong, but he's far being a pick/ban champion in competitive scene. I mean, there are so many champions who are less annoying than him.

LoL Ergo Urgot2 votes

Then riot could lower the base amount of the shield. I am hoping the shield can aid in his late game. If he needs some numbers taken away from the base to compensate for gaining better scaling so be it.

Think Nautilus I suppose.

here's a better suggestion, since many adc's have free skills, (luc, kog, trist) why not have his shield have no mana cost?

He's not an ADC.

I'm glad to see someone who is interested in Urgot because I'm an Urgot main.

However, I don't think Urgot need a buff. He's very very strong ATM and can carry the game so easily if well played. People who says that he need a buff "because he's the worst ADC of the game" just don't know Urgot like we Urgot mains (and he's not ADC). If Riot gave him the mana scaling on his shield (but I doubt it), I wouldn't change the amount of shield at earlier level because he's so strong that a bigger shield would make him broken / impossible to duel with. However, It's true that his shield is very weak late game and need a buff. I would prefer a % of maximum health scaling because Urgot has to be played tanky in late game: at least item 3110 + item 3102. On the contrary, a mana scaling would make a glass cannon Urgot very tanky without any defensive items.

LoL Ergo Urgot2 votes

urgot usually only grabs one armor and magic resist item during the game. He off tanks the majority of the time, at least it seems that way.

Giovarco1 votes

Yes It is, at least the majority of times. Sure, It depends on your comp.

I Main Swain1 votes

I almost want them to make his q apply on hit effects but I know that would be busted as crap. maybe if they nerfed it's dmg a ton or something...

Giovarco2 votes

It would be a big buff, so he'll be nerfed again. I think he works better like a tanky AD-Caster.
