Ahri A Kiting Mage, I think Not

Look, nobody can really deny that these new changes to Ahri have been pretty decent. In fact, It has helped her winrate if you want to use it as a metric of her strength.

The issue right now is it is almost impossible for Riot to continue to increase Ahri's mana costs, and call her a Kite mage. At level 2 a Q+E will cost Ahri 1/3 of her mana pool. Not only is Ahri's mana pool incredibly low, but her mana costs are increasingly higher and higher. Unlike Lissandra, who has an incredibly short CD Q, and a way to help her mana costs in the form of a crappy passive.

Ahri's CD's, while not short, are long enough that the fantasy of a kiting mage is not as easily created. Additionally, when your only non-ultimate kiting moves cost in the ballpark of 100 mana each late game, with a mana pool of only 1184 base at 18, there is no way to argue that she is a legitimate kiting mage in her current iteration, and nerfs to her mana costs are not the right way to go.

If you think she is strong Riot, OK that's fine. Don't hit her mana costs, because they're already oppressively massive as it stands.

Couldn't agree more. I could have swore Riot said in the past that high mana costs are anti-fun, and yet they're continuously using mana cost increases for balance. Ahri now, Cassiopeia most recently before her. So many mid lane players are frustrated with the mana regeneration nerf and the prominence of resourceless champs and "haha, you can cast less spells than before!" is probably the most unpleasant feeling nerf of all. There has to be a more elegant method of balancing here, particularly for someone like Ahri that they're specifically saying they want to be a poke mage.

How are you meant to poke if you run out of mana in 5 seconds? You can't.

If these new changes to ahri's mana costs make it impossible to be a kite mage, then i want lux's 130 mana E to cost a bit less.

Ahri only recently had her Q mana costs buffed to the current numbers in 4.12. She was competitive, occasionally even dominant, for a long time with a 90 mana cost Q. I don't think a 100 mana cost Q is a bad deal, considering the new utility on the thing.

Heaven forbid that you actually have to buy a mana item on Ahri now.

Go play Anivia, Karthus, Swain or Galio and then go play Ahri again. It will make everything better I promise.

On second thought, just go play Zed

Yes! Let's bitch about Malz, Anivia, Morgana, Lux, Swain etc. etc. Who are all outdated champions with bullshit mana costs. I get it, there are plenty of champions who have this problem, but again... If ahri is to be a kite mage (unlike any of the aforementioned) she needs spammability. That doesn't necessarily mean she needs damage, which is where they CAN tone down Ahri, but hitting her mana costs/range is the WRONG way to go about emphasizing the kiting mage fantasy.

{quoted} At level 2 a Q+E will cost Ahri 1/3 of her mana pool.

And we all know how important it is for Ahri to land those level 2 E+Qs.

The only time I would want to use E in the early lane phase is to either negate a gank or guarantee a kill. I'm not just going to throw random Es when they cost 1/4-1/6 of my mana pool, doesn't deal as much damage as Q/W, and doesn't have the damage amp anymore.

That's just an idiotic waste of mana. The kind of play you'd make while sitting on the crutch of pre-nerf Chalice/Grail.

Hmm Malzahar at level 18:

Base Mana 1091

Q Mana Cost 100

W Mana Cost 110

E Mana Cost 120

R Mana Cost 100.

One might say "He gains mana back with his E every minion killed." True but its only like 25 Mana at level 18 and this is cancelled if an enemy champion steps in between the two minions it would have bounced to.

Normally its not a big deal but when you WER a person you usually dont have enough mana to do anything after that. In laning phase this is fine, but in a teamfight it kind of sucks since you dont have time to go kill 20 minions to be able to rejoin the fight. Ahri's base stats and scalings are not that much less then Malz's and she has a ton of mobility to make up for it where as he is screwed if they jump on his face.

I think Malz's Q and W should be below 100 but most people think he is a bullshit champion (becuz suppress and doing anything to counter it is too hard for them) so im sure ill get downvoted
