Jaredan, It's Been A Month, Wanna Fill Us In?

We all get it. Life is crazy and hectic, but as you are pretty much the only person from Narrative who is either brave enough to wade the water or has the knowledge to do so, we'd appreciate you checking in. Story & Art has been dead for a month, without any REAL riot presence.** Come stop by. **

You said the retcon wasn't off the table to talk about, and the front page is about 50% retcon threads, many of which have some pretty important points worth commenting on.

Even if you don't want to try those waters, because scalding hot they are, what about the tech issues? No offense, but you've been pretty dodgy about this, and the community is starting to get restless.

We've already had 2 years of silence, where suddenly we're told that nothing is canon anymore. You've promised better communication, and this seems like a topic that is going to go nuclear before long. I get that you can't spell out the specifics of what is causing the issue, but comeon... Let's at least talk about it. Talk about why it isn't fix, several months later. Talk about why you can't release the long lores for Amumu/Rammus etc. in the meantime.

Shit, talk about anything. The point is the lore community has been treated like shit and disregarded by Riot in the past. And that is not of your own volition, but it is a dangerous precedent that you need to OVERCOME to be on good terms with the community.

These big silence gaps, they're not helping. They're only making things worse.

I've said this before and I'll continue to say it: Jaredan and his team won't be posting anything on the boards until they have something to announce or promote. Whether that something is a new set of stories, a new champion, an update on these alleged "tech issues" or whatever, they're not going to bother talking to us until they have something new and positive to say.

Why should they? Every time they do chime in, they wind up causing more consternation and upheaval than anything else. Tech issues and legal reasons aside, they aren't capable of dealing with the quagmire of misery and frustration they caused in the first place. Also, they don't want fans who remember the old stuff (which is why they kept badmouthing "encyclopedias" after the retcon announcement). They want newer fans who are drama-free and believe that Rito does this stuff best.

Jaredan and the team also seem to be under this grand delusion that once they start releasing stories, their history of failure and disappointment will be completely forgotten. It's a pipe dream, to be sure, but they act like they believe it.

Would love to know what's going on with lore.

The thing that's been bugging me the most about this whole situation is that Riot doesn't really seem interested in using this game as a platform to develop Runetrerra anymore.

What I mean is, back in the day they used to have a world that they developed and was alive. New champions came out, and had reason for being late to the party (as opposed to "Oh! They were always a part of the League!"), and conflicts developed between states. Now, Riot just seems to be throwing out some general idea about the world. There's a power struggle in the Freljord, but no actual battle or "event." The Harrowing is thing that happens, but there's no actual event or story about it happening currently just general information.

I feel like Riot is trying to just build a world to get ready to use another game as their way to deliver a "lore experience" and LoL will just be that MOBA that uses the same setting.

My other issue is that they also seem to be designing by committee, and that's something that's really hurting any kind of single vision and production speed. They seem to want to spend months and years thinking of themes and stories for champions because it has to be absolutely perfect before anyone can take a look. So they test, and focus group, and rewrite, and brainstorm, and think, and write, but don't actually produce anything because it has to be this solidified perfect thing before it can see the light of day. So the fans st there with nothing while they ideate all day long.

I'm not sure there still are technical issues. They might be busy world-building instead.
