Is it possible to nerf Yi without making him unusable?

DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING THAT I SAY AS SALTY!

So I love He is easily one of my favorite champions to play, so simple yet so effective and making the enemy team rage because they can't do anything while you run at them at light speed and outplay their CC with a nicely timed alpha strike and proceed to turn you into sushi. With this being said however, something we can all agree on is that needs a nerf, however is this possible without making him completely unusable? In this current meta the common build is to go this build almost makes Yi unkillable due to how much dmg he can put out and how much he can tank while putting out this dmg. Once he gets his items, his raw dmg spikes to the point that we all know him as. So how do we fix this? Do we nerf the items? This will hurt other champions as well Do we nerf Yi himself? This will make his early game ganks almost laughable at best because he doesn't have the item spikes to make them as impactful as if he had the dmg to do it. I feel like riot has a problem that their is no real solution. Thoughts and opinions on this.
