Sterak's Gage shield no longer stacks with Hexdrinker/Maw

Right now on PBE, Sterak's Gage has been changed so that its unique passive is now also called Lifeline, meaning that the shield part will not stack with the shield from Hexdrinker / Maw.

That should mean ADCs can no longer grab both items to immunise themselves to mages' burst.

As much as I hate Fizz, the people who play him tend to be hilarious. Some of the funniest jokes I have heard in-game came from Fizz players.

YESSSS, I'VE SEEN WAY TOO MANY ZEDS BUILD STERAKS AND MAW.

It's actually an elegant solution, something I'm not accustomed to seeing from you guys. Now, do you have any plans to address the Hexdrinker/Maw Lifeline cooldown reset from upgrading Hexdrinker? Currently, if I upgrade Hexdrinker while its effect is still on cooldown, it's immediately reset once it becomes Maw. I know the two effects are slightly different, but it's still unfair in my eyes to win a fight against a mage because Hexdrinker saved me just to go back, buy Maw, and immediately win another fight when otherwise that passive would have been down.

Also, how does this interact with the Lifegrip passive on Maw? If Lifegrip will still trigger off Sterakk's Lifeline, then both items could still be purchased simultaneously, though the major reason (double shields) would be mitigated. This is mostly just for curiosity's sake, as the Lifegrip passive of Maw stacked with the Sterakk's shield could create a particularly unkillable target thanks to the free lifesteal on top of the bonus damage.

Sadly I have no idea as I don't work on the design end of things :(

Wish I had answers for you, but I just make the new patches appear

Nope Master Arcanist Fizz is best

Man it would be awesome if we made a new Fizz skin... I don't think Master Arcanist theme would really make sense. Would he be like.. battle-mage Fizz or something? Stabbing people with a scepter? Creating a portal that summons... a demon... and he phases out of existence by leaping on his scepter... his Q he would be propulsed by the scepter... holy shit you're a genius.

I feel like they nerfed Sterak's once.

Having both wasn't fair for vs tanks either. Especially for mages. You'd dumb a combo and they just eat it all. Yet ADCs can just sustain through it anyways with aa. So overall I think this is positive. Anyways hopefully what they will do is put a short cooldown for which you can't receive Lifeline again, and they can both trigger within X amount of time, but each item has its own individual cooldown.

Kempachi Taichou2 votes

can't you still grab both?

They won't trigger at the same time but can trigger separately?

Most likely what happens is that whichever proc requirement triggers first will take effect and put both on cooldown, i.e. If you fall below 30% health, Maw procs, but if you take however much damage in a short time, Sterak's procs.

Technically yes, but it is basically impossible for an ADC to, at level 18, take 1800 damage in 5 seconds (proccing Steraks) while not dipping below 30% of their max health ( they would need 6000 hp ignoring shields or whatnot) and taking zero magic difference (proccing Maw). On live they are almost always proccing simultaneously (usually Maw procs first, then Steraks when have Maw lifeline active).

It is only the tankiest of the tanks who could trigger them separately (remember Sterak's last 8 seconds, Maw 5), and they likely wouldn't be grabbing Maw anyways. This is targeted to the squishier people (ADCs/some assassins) who are buying the pair to bypass their intended weakness (squishiness).

6000? 30% of 6000 is 2000. That gives 4000 possible damage before Maw proccing. 4000=/=1800

If I understand it correctly, Which ever one procs first(taking enough damage in a short period of time or getting dealt magic below whatever health) puts both on cooldown, they each have their own cd and whichever one comes up first is able to proc again, and if it procs im assuming it may or may not reset the other.

for example, say zed comings in a wrecks you and you have both items. He;s only gonna proc steraks, but maw is also gonna go on cooldown.

example #2 ahri comes in and wrecks you, but you are squishy so you proc maw before steraks, steraks would also go on cd.

Toa Innodence1 votes

well shoot. now how am I supposed to build my spell-vamp illaoi? I need the maw to proc, but steraks gage will proc if I'm too tanky/early on.

The Loveless1 votes

Which one has priority? I noticed Gage is only on a 45 second cooldown..

Nameless Voice2 votes

I'd assume triggering either (they have different triggering conditions) will put both on cooldown.

I don't know if each will have a separate cooldown from that point, or if you'll instead have to wait for the cooldown of the one that you actually triggered before you can use either again.

Lil Gr33n Ghouls4 votes

Which ever triggers first will put both on cd BUT, the bonus to the passive AD from Steraks and the Lifegrip passive from maw will both activate regardless of which shield triggers.

Elikain2 votes

That depends on which one proccs first.

Treyen1 votes

yes, let's keep nerfing every counter to burst mages so that later we can nerf burst mages and then we can nerf tanks again! yay balance!

Nameless Voice6 votes

This change doesn't affect tanks at all, mostly ADCs, who are supposed to be vulnerable to burst.
