Bard portal should not be used by enemies

Could someone elaborate on why Bard's portal can be used by enemies? I just don't see how the skill is effective for the team in general.

I just played a game where our team was getting dragon & Bard happen to be scouting from the inner (outter) walls of dragon. He gets caught & opens a portal into the dragon pit to escape. The whole team rushes in and kills us all + steals drag.

I don't care if that Bard was stupid but that seriously defies the point of a support. Not only do bad Bard players feed, but they also pull ineffective stunts like that.

TL;DR Portal should be ally functional ONLY

edit: Need I mention that I have no problem with his ult.

The portal has both offensive and defensive uses. It allows allies to take a path and flank an enemy they otherwise might not have been able to; or you can use it to bait the enemy team because of his Q (which stuns 2 enemies or 1 enemy and a wall, you know, the thing the portal goes through) and get free doubles for any teammate paying the slightest bit of attention.

Removing the ability for enemies to use the portal removes half of Bard's setup potential.

LOL That was bad, I play Bard, and I like the dragon area because you can get quite a long range portal going there (with smart placement) by doing portal at an angle, not only do you get more of a distance (because allies move faster than enemies) but you lock up the enemy, baiting them AWAY from Drake, not to mention the stun you land, and the speed buff you can use to bait them further away from drake.

I know you're saying "that" bard was bad, but you have to realise that Bards, Magical Journey is SUCH a powerful tool when used right, that both as balance and part of his unique kit, they made it open to use. I see why you'd say it shouldn't but good bards can pull off the most destructive baits with a well placed tunnel. If it was ally only, it'd be the most powerful escape tool in the game. Everyone in your team can do a Kassadin with MUCH higher range lol

The trick is, to know how to manipulate the tunnel use. One trick (works in low elo only probably) is make a tunnel and stand near it during the following engage.

  • First of all, enemies will often click on it trying to hit you, I have saved myself a few times like that.
  • Second, you can wait until last second to enter it (with ulti for help if ur squishy) dividing up the enemy or even escaping entirely
  • third, long range E's can set up the most powerful skill shots. Panth, Ziggs, Orianna, Galio, Amumu, even bard ulti in itself, You have about 3 second warning for EXACTLY where your enemy will be, and how many are coming

Finally, there's always that "hesitation" one gets before entering a portal. If it was bard only, he'd just be ignored because you know you won't catch him. But cause you can follow, you have to make that choice on whether to go in or not, even if you do have vision. You might hesitate and bard gets further away, allies might chose not to follow because they see it as too risky, then follow late because they don't expect you to go in. And even if you can follow, if Ahri or some other carry follows bard through the tunnel, she may find the rest of her team dead before she gets back.

If it was ally only, it'd be OP and bard only it'd need a buff of some kind, since bard is not much of a fighter, him using it alone is rarely handy. But by everyone being able to use it, you create a huge number of scenarios putting pressure on the whole team in terms of follow up.

I've even failed my escape with Bard, using my tunnel to escape, whole team follows me, I get chased around for a few seconds and die. The rest of my team returns to base, defends the turrets and gets full hp. If you have insight and see a "losing" team fight, creating an out can trick the enemy into giving up the fight for a single kill, while the rest of your team back off and recover.

It is literally his best tool, because he can bait the whole enemy team through the portal for his team to wombo combo on the other side (because they go through soooo much slower).

It is very good for setting up baits, 2 people chasing bard into his magical journey can quickly turn into 2 kills for bards team.

Bards portal should be a 2 way use . so you can essentially set up like thresh lantern
