LOL That was bad, I play Bard, and I like the dragon area because you can get quite a long range portal going there (with smart placement) by doing portal at an angle, not only do you get more of a distance (because allies move faster than enemies) but you lock up the enemy, baiting them AWAY from Drake, not to mention the stun you land, and the speed buff you can use to bait them further away from drake.
I know you're saying "that" bard was bad, but you have to realise that Bards, Magical Journey is SUCH a powerful tool when used right, that both as balance and part of his unique kit, they made it open to use. I see why you'd say it shouldn't but good bards can pull off the most destructive baits with a well placed tunnel. If it was ally only, it'd be the most powerful escape tool in the game. Everyone in your team can do a Kassadin with MUCH higher range lol
The trick is, to know how to manipulate the tunnel use. One trick (works in low elo only probably) is make a tunnel and stand near it during the following engage.
- First of all, enemies will often click on it trying to hit you, I have saved myself a few times like that.
- Second, you can wait until last second to enter it (with ulti for help if ur squishy) dividing up the enemy or even escaping entirely
- third, long range E's can set up the most powerful skill shots. Panth, Ziggs, Orianna, Galio, Amumu, even bard ulti in itself, You have about 3 second warning for EXACTLY where your enemy will be, and how many are coming
Finally, there's always that "hesitation" one gets before entering a portal. If it was bard only, he'd just be ignored because you know you won't catch him. But cause you can follow, you have to make that choice on whether to go in or not, even if you do have vision. You might hesitate and bard gets further away, allies might chose not to follow because they see it as too risky, then follow late because they don't expect you to go in. And even if you can follow, if Ahri or some other carry follows bard through the tunnel, she may find the rest of her team dead before she gets back.
If it was ally only, it'd be OP and bard only it'd need a buff of some kind, since bard is not much of a fighter, him using it alone is rarely handy. But by everyone being able to use it, you create a huge number of scenarios putting pressure on the whole team in terms of follow up.
I've even failed my escape with Bard, using my tunnel to escape, whole team follows me, I get chased around for a few seconds and die. The rest of my team returns to base, defends the turrets and gets full hp. If you have insight and see a "losing" team fight, creating an out can trick the enemy into giving up the fight for a single kill, while the rest of your team back off and recover.
