If you ask me, Ezreal had enough "time in the spotlight" for the next 5 seasons

Since his release there is constantly a broken piece of item that renders him borderline impossible to kill or makes him a scaling monster after 1 single item while other champs need 3-4 items to truly reach their powerspikes. Skillshots? Yeah. Great argument for such a champ. People who argue that way prolly play Lee Sin themselves. Every season Ezreal is top picks approx. 95% of the entire season, even after "adjustments" to items to make him weaker.

It doesnt happen. He still wrecks mid to late game by purely poking everything to death, AOE damaging it, AOE slowing it, or other broken ass mechanics that render his kit purely stupidly unbalanced EVERY single season. Ez is the Lee sin of the bot lane, Riots guilty pleasure to go under radar non stop and letting him in his tiny OP spot while hiding him under item balance tweaks.

It`s disgusting and pathetic. He deserves to be gutted the same way Sejuani and Sion were because people started to render their tiny favourite adc renderless by simply bashing in his face .

Lucian currently has a higher pick rate than Ezreal by 14% and almost the same win rate. Imo Riot did give ezreal a buff when he didn't need it.. but just look what they did to xin XD It's also better than seeing vayne every game.

He is just a perfect example of a champion that compacts well with items. fits the explorer theme gathering artifacts ya know. But yeah...i hate ez. He is like if he is not in the adc category and something more bigger

Vayne Caitlyn was a probably longer metagame. Corki Graves Graves buffs after his release put him into full dumb damage, if you think his dmg is bad now ---back in the day at full items any scrub that abused him could 1v5. Corki triforce trends have always happened. Jinx Release and beyond has been ridiculously popular.

KogMaw Lucian Lucian is solid and easy to play and Kog got his buffs so yeah this is mostly the current meta.

Ezreal might be forgiving, but he can get snowballed against and he's not as good in fights if he misses his R. His AS boost is an all in and he has to hit his Q in order to win a lot of duels.

His popularity is more a side effect of his kit scaling with AP and AD significantly and the ability to apply on-hits at far range consistently. Riot doesn't often make fundamental changes to kits unless they're terribly outdated and feel sort of nich'ed or useless currently. It's really hard for his kit not to be relevant simply because his abilities scale so well with just about anything, and I don't really think he's been subject to favoritism much. He isn't popular in the LCS unless he's too strong because he relies too much on landing constant skillshots to approach the dmg that more AA based ADCs can do with their AAs. His relative success at all times is also due to his safety, another side effect of his kit being that way since release. If you want him to stay in line more consistently without dropping in and out of the meta so easily, then his kit needs to be fundamentally changed. Personally, I disagree with that happening, probably because the bastard is my most played champion, but overall he is pretty balanced I think, unless you tack extra and easily accessible cc on him, like what occurred with IBG. (I could agree with his numbers being tuned down currently, he's a little too strong. I might even like to experiment with the idea of making spellblade not proc on his Q to open up other builds avenues, although I suspect he might end up relying on crit were that the case...)

PS: No champion 'deserves' to be gutted. Every champion should be viable and usable in each meta. I'd say that this is generally true, most/all champions are usable and can be successful, with some being easier to have success with in this meta than others, but honestly this game is not all that bad in terms of how viable each individual champ is. As far as game mechanics go, I think there is a lot of unhealthiness there, but I don't want to talk for too much longer...

Ezreal is the annoying, slippery utility-ADC. He usually doesn't get the levels of raw damage output that other ADCs bring to the team, but instead he's more self-reliant and better at poking while keeping himself safe.

Ezreal's kit is a very poorly designed one. If you check his winrate, almost always the highest winrate involves him not leveling up one of his abilities until he ABSOLUTELY has to. That alone is enough to show an extremely flawed champion, Reliant too much on one or two abilities.

Honestly, he's completely ruined countless items because his Q Procs on hit effects, and he's no fun to play against. An ADC who can build a tank item and it be core to his identitity already sounds ridiculous, and it's part of the reason Steraks gage Got nerfed recently.
