Difference between root, snare and immobilize?

As far as i know, none of these three are stuns, they all seem to do the same thing. Is there a difference or is riot just bad with vocabulary? Maybe snare means you cant move period while immobilize means you can use jumps/dashes?

Nothing at all.

They just need to seriously update the tooltips.

They aren't stuns, but they are immobilizations.

The difference is something that the Clarity team has yet to explain.

The difference is being moved by other champs moves.

Like if you are snare and hit by alistar headbutt, you are pushed back.

If you are rooted, you don't get pushed by said headbutt

at least...that what I think the difference is.

AFAIK there is no such distinction. "Root" and "immobilize" are exactly the same thing. I think they finally stopped using "snare" because many other games use that for slows and it's confusing.

The only thing that stops displacement is if there's terrain in the way or something else affects you partway (like you get displaced into a trap that roots you).

No difference, they need to update tooltips and the floating combat text. Root is the preferred term at the moment.

Some skills may use multiple status effects. i.e.: Amumu's Ult is Root + Pacify.

Bad with vocabulary. Roots, snares, and immobilizes all drop movement speed down to 0 and silence pretty much every skill that requires moving the champion to do something (a few mobility skills like Caitlyn's 90 Calibure Net can still be cast) but it's just safe to assume you can't use anything with mobility. Fiora can't cast Blade Waltz, Riven can't cast Valor - generally such skills are just flat out disabled.

I've read something from a Rioter where Riot decided to change the name of snares to roots somewhere along the lines (after a Rioter actually looked up what snares in RL do). For clarity - though they haven't updated all the tooltips yet.

As for potential differences - Amumu's ultimate (an "entangle") is the only root I'm aware of that functions differently than simply preventing mobility, as it also disables auto-attacks. It used to also silence champions, so for a while it basically read "Rito, you're high - why are you pretending a stun does something besides stun things?" but they changed it to actually do what the tooltip says somewhere along the line, so now it's essentially a root with a fairly unique AA disabling bonus.
