@riot:What can we learn from smite's economy?

Disclaimer: Didn't know where to put this, so i put it in balance because riot neets to "balance" out their economy.

TLDR: Lol's economy sucks. Smite's economy rocks.

Everybody who has played league up to level thirty, without spending hundreds of dollars on champions knows that the state of the league economy right now is bad. Really bad. In not gonna go and do that "it takes x hours of gameplay to get one 6300 champions". I dont know how much it takes, and frankly, i dont care. What i am more concerned about, is how new players who are building their champion pool instead of buying runes really dont get a chance to try everybody before they hit level 30. Yes yes, i know, thats what the free champion rotation is for. I'll admit this was a good idea, but it seems to favor only a few champions, and many are barely ever in the rotation. But wait! All the "begginer" champions are very cheap! Ah ha! However, do you REALLY want a truckload of new players to be using people like nunu in their placement games? Now lets get to the point that was in the title: Smite

I have been playing smite for awhile now, and i am loving it. I'm not gonna go all "Smite>Lol" since that's not my point and it isint true anyways. For those of you who have played smite, you will know that like league, smite has a first win of the day bonus. Unlike league, there is a bonus for ***every game mode that you win***. Smite has a LOT of game modes, letting you win a ton of favor (the smite equivalent of IP) for one day. The bonus is only 100 however, but in the long run you earn much much more.

Another point i would like to reinforce is the god pricing. Pretty much all gods cost 5500 favor. There are a couple who randomly cost a bit cheaper, but 90% of them are the standard. ALL gods are 200 gems (RP), no matter how much they cost in favor. This is great so that once a player hits that mark, they have a ton of options for buying gods. And, one of the best benefits, is that recolor skins can be bought with favor. Yes it is over 1000 favor, and yes it is only a recolor, but you must admit that is pretty freaking good.

And finally, we come to gems. I mean holy crap, the gems. Smite has a daily reward system, which gets you gems. The first five days get you favor, with the last two getting you gems, for a total of 50 gems. In one month you can buy any god and most skins. Also a rather new addition is "gem storm". This is a very special promotion which has only happened once so far, on the last Saturday if January. Every first win of the day that you get earns you 30 gems. Earning every first win of the day awards you 100 gems. This is very generous considering that the norm for skins and gods is only 200. Other than those two things, there are various promotions, such as 200 gems for signing up for curse voice, as well as gems for raptr rewards. The only thing that i do not like about it, is that it does those dumb survey things, where only a quarter of them work.

Now lets get to the point of this thread: What riot can do to increase its economy. I don't expect riot to do all these promotions since well... Riot seems more concerned with... money than high-rez studios is. That is fine, everybody wants money. But i do think you should at least do one of these things to improve the current economy of league. I would highly suggest implementing a daily reward system for benefits for both ip and rp. I would suggest changing skin pricing, but i know that you guys are very picky when it comes to skin tiers (coughmarauderashecough), but there are many things to do. I know this probably dosent matter to you platinum and diamond people who just use rp, but to pre-30's, it matters a lot. The new player experience is not good at all right now, and i think you guys could really change that.

EDIT: Another thing i forgot to mention is that every god in smite, current and future can be unlocked for $30. Trust me, you can not do that in lol

Aside from the Daily Reward System or a First Wins of the Day system I do think the Champion prices need to be reevaluated, both for IP and RP.

RP-wise I hold the belief that not a single Champion should have to cost around $10. that just seems like a really cheap/greedy thing to do. It'd be fine for skins and stuff, but the actual characters?

IP-Wise - I think the entire pricing needs to be looked at. I'm okay with Champions being in "Price Tiers" based on their complexity and stuff, but the gap between each Tier (outside of 450 and 1350) is too big.

The price gaps between each tier after 1350 are all in the 1000s, which just really feels like to too much, especially for people starting out or still relatively new to the game who really care about IP (at least compared to "Veterans"), and who don't have all the Runes and stuff they need as well.

We need IP rewards increase tbh.

It was K when the game only had like 50 champs, but now we have like 130, it's just a pain now to buy and collect champs if you don't play a lot or played since the early days of LoL.

Even though I said this, I actually have played around 4 years already, it's just my personal opinion on the matter.

I got every god in Smite for like $20 or $30 while the game was still in beta. I figured I'd go for it because it was such a good deal to get all the gods, present and future for the price of paying for a budget/steam game. Don't really play Smite, as I barely have enough time to play League, but I like HiRez a lot more than Riot.

I think there should be a slight increase of IP per win and loss mostly win though, Daily Bonus should be a bit bigger too. RP gains i can live without, they got to make money and im fine with it. The prices are not bad anyways so if i really want something i have absolutely no issue dropping $5-$10 on it. IP costs are a little too high for Runes, when you are stuck between buying Runes or a new Champion it makes for a really bad experience. I know this is intended to make people want to buy champions with RP, but honestly most of the time people just go without Runes, its just not good business if you ask me (not like im the authority on the matter lol). 6300 is also kind of alot for a champion, it takes a long long time to gain that amount and most people can't play all that often. I think they should slightly lower the RP cost of champions, more people would be willing to buy champions if you didnt have to drop $10 on them. I know i said im fine with the prices but that is for Skins, for Champions id rather get 6300 IP then pay $10 for a champion i might not even like. If i payed like $5 for a 6300 champs and $7 for a newly released champ id feel better about buying them with money.

Well honestly the reason smite economy is the way it is is mostly focused around expanding the playerbase, whereas league economy is mostly focused on making money off the current playerbase.

They both make sense considering the community of each game, but they don't make much sense if you swap them, league has a large enough playerbase that it's not so desperate to get more players, whereas smite desperately needs more players.

If anything,I think league economy can learn a thing or two from dota's,we could use some more variance in sales.

Game definitely needs FWOTD for every game mode. Riot wants to encourage people to play their game modes? BAM, done

I was thinking about this just the other day. The daily sign in thing should be put in at the very least. They don't have to give us RP for days 6 and 7 (in smite you get gems), but i don't see why they wouldn't allow this. Its not like i can buy Runes with RP, and me having to farm IP doesn't make me want to play more, it makes me want to go play smite. lol

EDIT: Also instead of "go away you stupid smite fanboy" you should of put "I didn't actually read what you wrote, but it said something about Smite being better than LOL so i downvoted you"

When League came out, it was praised for being the first fair F2P that didn't outright let you buy power.

It became big before the competition undercut it, and now they don't really need to change because they have 40 million players and the world in their pockets, do they?
