So how about an item for AD Caster-types?

Rebonack··11 votes·1,061 views

You know, the sort that aren't tanky.

(item 1037 item 3101 item 3134) Grants AD, IAS, armor pen, CDR, and UNIQUE active: You may bind this item to one of your skills. Hitting an enemy champion or epic monster with a basic attack applies all damage and secondary effects from this skill to them, placing it on cooldown.

As it stands, AD Caster-type Marksmen often times end up reducing their DPS come late game if they use their skills. That just strikes me as silly. So the goal of this item is to allow them to incorporate the damage from their skills into their basic attacks without slowing down the pew pew.

It goes without saying that itemization for AD Casters is woefully inadequate, barring tanky derps like Garen and friends. An item like this would help to fill in the gap without making the more Assassin-y AD casters over the top. Typically they aren't terribly keen on attack speed and so this whole issue with pausing to use skills between autos typically doesn't bother them.

I know what you mean, Caitlyn's abilities become mostly utility after 4 items.

Kitten of Evil5 votes

This would give her an on-hit snare, though. Seems a bit strong to me.

Well, to be fair, that's the point.

Most of an autoattacking ADC's damage late-game comes from autoattacking. Q is decent for poking outside your aa range (safety), W is always utility, and E is an escape and a slow. R is a long-range execute.

What do you expect? Caitlyn gets most of her damage out of autoattacks, that's the point. She's a sniper, not artillery.

Wait I think your point flew above my head :P

This seems too op. I'm assuming you can't bind it to ults, but even so there are a lot of single target cc skillshots that become targeted stuns with this. Also it would be hilarious to bind w or e on veigar (late game when he has 1000 ap from his q passive anyway).

It can be bound to Ults, mostly for Corki and Kog. Though it would make The Cuddling actually worth using. Lose out on the mobility and range, though.

Most skillshot CC is to be found on champions that would feel pretty icky about sinking well over 3k gold into that much IAS and AD. The only real exception that I can think of would be Cait or Jinx' root. But then again, if they're binding their root then that means they aren't binding their respective damage skills.

And between you and me?

The game could use more medium range targeted CC. Need something to help hold League of Mobility down.

Which ability would you bind it to on Riven?

Q? Now it isn't granting any mobility.

W? Now your stun is single target.

E? Again, no mobility.

R? Now it's single target and melee range.

I had just woken up and couldn't think and read your post wrong.

So... if it were bound to a spell you couldn't use that spell without auto-attacking? I'm not seeing that in your description.

Nah, you can still use it normally.

It just goes on cooldown and its damage/side effects are applied to a champion you auto-attack.

And between you and me, Panth really needs a remake. His Ult in particular.

I have a question? If I bought this item on... say... Sion . Will it apply a fully charged knock-up or no charge slow? What damage as well?

That I don't know.

Some abilities are balanced around having a channeled wind-up before they hit stuff. Varus' Q, Vi's Q, and Sion's Q all fall into that category. Being able to apply that instantly could potentially cause issues. This is the sort of thing that would need to be iterated on and play-tested with. I can't really give any answer.

Though as with any new item that's a real game-changer there might end up being outliers. If nothing else, Riot could put in specific exceptions to the item's rules like they did with The Culling. It can't apply Muramana's toggle despite being a bunch of single-target spells.

So Zed can now oneshot me even without hitting his shurikens as soon as he gets this item? Pls no.

He would hit you for sure, yeah, but his shadows wouldn't be throwing any shurkens since he didn't actually cast the spell. Unless he's awful that would reduce his damage output. But then again, if you're playing against a Zed who can't land his throwing stars at melee range you've already won.

Basic attacks only. Think the Phantom Hit passive. Abilities that proc OnHit effects wouldn't apply it.

When people bring up AD casters, I think of champions like Pantheon rather than marksmen. Champions whose auto range is melee. Sadly items to boost champions in this category also boost champions outside of their category but more so.

Panth is an AD Assassin-y Fighter thing. His one real issue is that he has no way to break focus on himself after he jumps into the fray unlike... well... any real Assassin, really. His Ult could be remade pretty easily to fill that role. Who knows if that'll ever happen.

AD Caster vs AD Assassin.

If this champion used AP instead, would they be considered an Assassin or a Mage?

Cait, Varus, Graves, Ez, ect would all be Mages without question.

Panth would totes be an Assassin (and would probably work better, too).

Ralanr2 votes

I think he's considered a caster because he relies on his abilities to deal most of his damage output instead of his autoattacks.

Kitten of Evil1 votes
  1. Bind Pantheon's ult to this item
  2. W-stun then auto-attack an opponent, deal 1000 magic damage to them on-hit.
  3. ???
  4. Profit!

The only binding that makes any sense is her Ult, but you would be losing the healing from hitting more than one thing.

And the free Sheen procs.

Pretty sure that's the type of champs this is meant to be on.

AND it doesn't buff Riven.

I call that a win/win

Oh yes, just absolutely remove the mana cost of one spell (probably their most expensive one) from a character.

What a wonderful idea.

High mana cost pokes typically have high mana costs because poking from long range needs to cost something.

By binding an ability to an auto-attack you're removing the long range poke aspect. That, and given that this thing would cost at least 3.5k it would be getting completed at a point in the game where mana costs have become less of an issue.

But hey, I might be wrong here.

What champion would be broken by the ability to echew the mana-cost of one of their abilities provided they use it as an auto-attack? And remember! They have to be okay with sinking about 4k gold into IAS and AD.

Atkspeed on riven isnt even that bad btw, would be a cool item for her, so why not? She needs a little buff anyway.

I can't help but think that there are better choices for her, though. Hitting the CDR cap already isn't very hard for Riven. And none of her skills really cry out for the binding active.

You can do the fast combo a bit faster if you use it, could be useful in a better playenviroment without hitting her power in low elo. I am all for riven buffs, even if its just more possible buildpaths that dont suck, maybe not the best stats but probably situationally viable especially after the changes that brutalzier only builds in youmous and that item falls off lategame.

Zed binds to ult

ez

...why would you do that?

Now you're down a shadow for both escape and an extra throwing star, not to mention you're losing out on the untargetability.

That strikes me as a terrible idea.

Damage is more important than surviving.
