The #1 High Elo Garen Main says he is changing champions due to being handicapped by Garen's design

Ristiummask is well knows for being a positive role model in League of Legends with many videos on his Youtube about how to get Honor Ribbons. Many Riot employees know of him, he really is a pillar of what the League community should be. He also happens to be a Garen main and has decided to stop playing Garen and move on to Karthus, because Garen is inhibiting him from climbing out of Diamond. He described how Garen is the weakest Juggernaut and has way too much counterplay to be played (after 700+ games on him). He has reached out to Riot about this with no response so I doubt this will do anything, but it is pretty sad that a champ is designed to not be competitive. If they cared they could give him small amounts of things that could increase his ability to outplay opponents but they just don't and haven't for 5 years now. Until they realize their entire stance on the champ is wrong for the game, he will remain this way. This isn't some random Bronze player or a 500 game Plat player, this is the 2nd person (MarineRevenge was first) to have to change champions to climb to their RIGHTFUL ELO.

The thing about garen, is to make him viable in high elo, he'd be disgustingly OP in lower elo because of how simple he is. He's that champ you 1st play when you're new to the game, and maybe more after that. The average player will never to get a elo where garen's weaknesses really matter.

The champion would need drastic changes to become viable in high elo. When the you weigh the negatives vs the positives, I don't feel that is it worth it. There are a few champs that are in a similar boat. Off the top of my head, arguably Annie Volibear Sona .

You act like changing champions to climb to an elo a person belongs is a bad thing, if you don't have a champion pool, where you can play 3-5 champions well at that elo, you don't really deserve that elo, if your mechanics are based around one champion and one champion only, what is the point of your rank? To prove that you can stomp with just Garen over and over and over and over again?

In higher Elo, simple champions are more often than not exploited for there one way kits, meaning, a champion with a higher skill ceiling will be harder to deal with at a higher elo if you are good with that champion.

As a diamond 5 Garen one trick pony in EUW, I respect his reasons

Riot even acknowledge garen is in a bad state as a champion, but refuse to do anything to him as it will cause problems in low elos, when better players know how to deal with garen's kit.

Garen's winrate is completely crap and I hope all of the good Garen mains stop playing him so we can see his real winrate. His ban rate is also abyssmaly low when you consider that most of the people that do ban him are koreans that wannabe faker and as we all know he bans the first letter of the korean alphabet. After taking these two things into consideration Garen is in the worst possible place competitively. #MakeGarenGreatAgain No excuses for broken gameplay. [zombie-brand-facepalm] I could do a better job balancing champions than Riot which is sad. It's fucking sad that Riot keeps ignoring all of the Garen mains that know what the they're talking about. Glad I haven't dropped a dime on this cesspool of failed gameplay mechanics, I'd consider it if characters like Garen weren't completely shafted and remained that way. No cop out flavor of the month design.

Outside of getting a full rework, Garen will never become viable in high elo due to his kit design that prevents him from getting straight buffs

He won't change mains.

If he changes mains he loses his title, and then his relevance.
