Tahm Kench

I think most people despise having to go against this champion up in top lane. Almost in every other game when im top lane I have to fight this monster, in which has helped me find many ways to avoid or maintain his monstrosity. (or ways not to fight him)

Riot isn't listening to the complaints of people asking to nerf his base damage. So lets dig down and find out how to beat this guy.

First lets talk about items. This one should be obvious. item 3111
Mercury treads against any team who has a lot of cc should be without a doubt built. Against Tahm Kench, this item is the most useful of any other item. Tahm Kench's Q slows their enemy by 2 seconds. With merc treads, this slow would only be 1.4 seconds. Tahm Kench's W swallows their enemy for 4 seconds. With merc treads, this would only be 2.8 seconds.

Did you also know that Tahm kench's auto attack damage is based off his maximum health? From the league of legends wiki 0 STACK: 9 − 34.5 (based on level) (+ 1.5% bonus health). 1 STACK: 18 − 69 (based on level) (+ 3% bonus health). 2+ STACKS: 27 − 103.5 (based on level) (+ 4.5% bonus health).

His Regurgitate does this unholy damage (where he gets most of his damage) 60 / 105 / 150 / 195 / 240 (+ 9 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 13% (+ 2% per 100 AP) of target's maximum health) Sadly, building health against Tahm Kench is practically useless, but you need to realize that Tahm Kench would actually do more damage to you, the more health you build. Thus we must build Magic resistance. Items good against his W. (excluding merc treads) item 3194 item 3065 (be more reluctant to build spirit visage as it as more health, unless you are a champion who obtains major health)

Maybe you aren't exactly a tank, and you need damage item 3139 Merc treads + QSS = Flicking off Tahm Kench item 3748 Using this item like Cho'Gath's E will continually do damage to Tahm Kench

Remember. Grevious wounds doesn't work against Tahm Kench's E. Buying items like item 3123 wont be as useful as you think.

Before I talk about Champions that can withstand Tahm Kench, we need to understand how to play against him, and its actually fairly simple. Early game. Dont get hit by his Q. This skillshot is absolutely ridiculous and it has such a stupid hitbox, but how would any normal league player block a skillshot? Stand behind minions. Good luck trying to juke such a huge hitbox which even hits you if you dodged it. Playing inside of your minions disables him to poke you down easily or get any stacks on you. Most Tahm Kenchs' know that their early game is extremely strong which can make them cocky and complacent. Using team support will help you drag this monster into hell.

Sometimes only dodging his Q wont help, he could auto attack you and Q you when you attempt to escape. Another tip would be to Roam. Tahm Kench has one of the slowest wave clears in the game, as his maximum health attack doesn't work on towers and minions as it does on champions (why do you think he was supposed to be a support). He lacks in major mobility and his ult is little help to that weakness. Going champions with major mobility, or with huge snowball potential. Instead of using summoner 12 to go back to lane, use it to roam, achieve objectives, and push other lanes as a way to gather XP and gold that you missed from farming in the lane phase. Do not feed him, no matter the cost. It would be more safe to sacrifice XP, gold, and even your first turret (if he can somehow get it) this actually very much coincides with my last tip to roam. {Feeding Tahm kench < Objectives } (duh) Tahm Kench cant really farm well compared to other top laners. If he were to get fed, he would be able to probably 1v5 a whole team.

If you manage to get kench low, force him to use his E, or else he will heal it all back. *remember Grievous wounds does nothing against this.

Champions that counter Tahm Kench. That can actually fight him. (Essentially ranged champions with any CC) Anyone with Blinds or anything that affects your vision. Quinn Graves Teemo Quinn is probably the biggest counter against Tahm Kench. Even if she is losing against him in lane, her ult makes her able to roam 24/7. Graves is the champion is the champion <3 playing against Tahm Kench. His Q is perfect poke against Tahm kench. His W disables him to auto attack and let Tahm get his stack on you, and his E allows him to dodge Tahm's Q. Teemo is Teemo. Maxing W on this guy with fleetfootwork helps alot (it sounds crazy) as it helps him get away from Tahm. His Q none the less destroys Tahm Kench. Pantheon Aatrox Jax MonkeyKing Pantheon has a great kit against Tahm Kench as his shield protects most of his damage. His Q pokes, and his w allows him to run away. *do I need more explanation? Aatrox is a complete monster against tahm kench, use umbral dash to dodge Tahm's Q and continually poke him to death. Jax with item 3140 and his E will be able to win trades with Tahm. Wukong's W should allow him to save him from being eating by tahm or being stunned.

My usual favorite to fight Tahm Kench is Gnar . He is a complete Frog shredder with his w, and can run away anytime with his E.

This guy, Nasus has ALOT of trouble against TahmKench . Usually as nasus, when im facing a tough lane, I usually buy item 3285, and poke with my E. *build straight tank + Tri force after.

Any other champion like Trundle Darius Tryndamere Sion Poppy should try to roam as much as possible *like i said above. Because Tahm can destroy these champions. Ill have an edit session later on champions who can counter this unholy demon later. GLHF!

I hope this helped somewhat, as this may have been obvious already.

Stacking health against tahm kench is perfectly acceptable as long as you eventually get MR, and even then if you are healing based on your max/missing health like Darius DrMundo you will easily outheal his W without even building mr

Regurgitate actually does a very little amount of damage, even against health stackers. (His main damage source is from passive + q)

The reason why it might show up as a lot on death recap is because a number of things, all due to the fault of death recap.

This is because its normally used as an execute by making sure you cant act until his next q is up, death recap tends to only show what happens leading up to your death.

So basically he will q you, hold you in his belly for maximum duration so he can spit you out and q again immediately after.

**(Death recap might only count whatever happens after he spits you out since you haven't taken damage over the duration you were in his belly) **

If he didn't use it as an execute/you arnt stacking pure health, it is actually a disadvantage for him to have to use W since it removes his passive stacks from you...which tend to do more damage than his w itself...

The only other use for him to eat you is for some sort of outplay (such as waiting for trynd ult to expire or repositioning you away from your minions so he can q you)

Also the unflinching rune in the resolve tree double dips at stopping tahm from catching you with q (gives tenacity and slow resistance)

Tahm kench is actually weak until he gets points into his q and gets his power spike once its maxed, so early game he is actually not as strong as you think as long as you keep doing extremely short trades with him, its lvl 7/8 where he becomes an actual monster.
