League's casual modes are all but gone.

Over the years, we've seen a lot of them.

  1. ARAM, the only one remaining today.
  2. Treeline. Only considered a causal mode because Riot never supported it. Did you know that gold funneling was a problem on TT for years before it was a problem in SR, and was a problem there long after it was fixed in SR, but it was never fixed because Riot refused to do jack shit?
  3. Dominion. The same situation as Treeline, but even worse because Riot never delivered on the ranked queue they promised for the mode when it launched. Oh, and by the way, the removal of this map from custom lobbies killed the custom gamemodes players made, like the Hide and Seek game mode. Now, the only one of those old League custom modes you can still play is Donger Dash.
  4. Nexus Blitz. This was supposed to be a permanent addition to the game, and frankly I enjoyed this mode far more than
  5. Teamfight Tactics, which is not a League of Legends gamemode, but I thought I'd just put it in this list just to say how much I hate this gamemode. It isn't all that bad, honestly, but it isn't League and its existence proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that Riot had the resources to support their other gamemodes, but they refused to because those modes didn't make money for their tencent overlords, while they knew an RNG-loaded game with gacha elements would sell like hotcakes.
  6. Ascension, which was nice and I wish happened more often.
  7. Black Market Brawlers, which honestly could have been a great mode if it was given its own map and made permanent.
  8. One For All. Let me just say this flat out: there is no excuse for not having this mode available in custom lobbies. It would take absolutely nothing on your part.
  9. Nexus Siege, which was interesting, if not the most satisfying mode ever.
  10. Hexakill, which is the same deal as One For All as far as custom lobbies go.
  11. Nemesis Draft, which sucked in matchmaking but was incredible for tournament play. I remember I won a game with the pre-rework Taric Jungle in a custom game tourney of this mode. Good times, but it wouldn't work nowadays with the lack of troll champions. What are we down to now, just Teemo?
  12. Snowdown Showdown was a great mode, and Riot's rationale for not bringing it back in future years was horseshit. They said that players only played Snowdown Showdown for a small percentage of time spent in game that patch, meaning it was unpopular and a failure. Nevermind that the average game length was A couple minutes, or that it was a secondary mode, so of course people didn't spend as much time there as they did in Rift.
  13. Dark Star, which was fun but yeah doesn't really need to stay forever.
  14. Definitely Not Dominion, which is just a sick fucking joke that pleased nobody.
  15. Blood Moon, which is just LOL Team Deathmatch.
  16. Doom Bots, which were quietly put to sleep, as they haven't been seen since 2016.
  17. OVERCHARGE, which sucked.
  18. The PVE modes, which I wish happened more often since they really are cool little events.
  19. URF, which Riot really doesn't like implementing.
  20. ARURF, URF's cousin which players don't like playing.
  21. Poro King, a decent version of ARAM, and probably the only RGM that regularly comes back.

Imo Odyssey was so far the best event we ever had. So much creativity, coordination and away from competitiveness of everyday league. Sad to see it go for little legends TFT

Odyssey was fun, trying to do the mission was not.

I mean.. it gave us something that Star Guardian was lacking. Challenge and replayability. Sure Star Guardian was also fun playing! But the augments made Odyssey so special. Trying to beat the highest difficulty with only a set number of mods or special characters needed creativity, communication and teamwork. I'm pretty sure some friends of mine invited randos into our discord to make it work and it was a blast. Also they rewarded you heavily for the hardest missions. Tons of free stuff for skill representation.

Its alright, you just don't comprehend how business works. They will never dedicate resources to gamemodes which do not pull in a decent playerbase. TFT does it, URF does it, Nexus Blitz did it (this one im puzzled as to why it hasn't returned). Everything else was played for a couple of games and back to ranked.

The modes didn't pull in players because they never dedicated any goddamn resources to them.

If Summoners Rift had received the whopping two patches of changes that Treeline did in its lifetime, it would have failed too.

I don't give a shit about business, I just want to play a fuckin' video game.

Doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks or wants, this is 100% a business question. Riot stopped putting resources into the modes because no one was playing them in the first place. From a business perspective, what is best? Potentially waste millions of dollars by redirecting resources into something only 5% of your customers want, or just cutting your losses then and there and put those resources towards something the remaining 95% already likes?

For example, Riot put in a lot of money and effort to make the ARAM map because they saw that a ton of people already liked playing custom ARAMs. That's more or less a guaranteed return. Riot spent money and effort to completely rework Twisted Treeline, but it didn't give any results whatsoever aside from a temporary spike in players before it going back to normal. That was a straight up waste of time and money.

it does not cost that much to make a gamemode relevant. and it costs nothing to the just let the gamemode exist

Imagine thinking it costs millions to keep a game mode in the game lol. Imagine thinking that Riot actually put effort into TT after the map revamp. The monsters don't even "spawn", they just appear, what effort did they put there? Dominion should've been more promoted since it was the only unique game mode there was. What effort was put into that?

I wonder if nemesis urf can work

URF, which Riot really doesn't like implementing. ARURF, URF's cousin which players don't like playing.

The exact opposite, which has finally been proven (again). We will never see non-random URF again.

Definitely Not Dominion, which is just a sick fucking joke that pleased nobody.

I think i purged this from my memory successfully..

People who like Urf can rejoice, this game has slowly become Urf with every season.

They stopped implimenting it because (besides the unlimited resources), the game is damn near the same..
