Riot: We want to wait to see how Kog does in LCS before we buff him

Rebonack··2 votes·314 views

Does every single competitive team avoiding Kog like a hooker with genital herpes count as LCS feedback? Or do we need to wait for a team to actually try building a comp around him and then get crushed by the 20 minute mark before he's declared just as underwhelming there as he is in Solo play?

Or is Kog just going to languish in the rubbish bin with Urgot until he gets another remake?

Inquiring minds wish to know.

Well before, when kog was really strong in s3/s4, he wasn't used because they didn't realize he was that strong (partly due to the trinity build). But look at it this way- pros didn't know the new Ryze was this much of a problem until someone actually played him... and now he is a must ban. I agree with you that it's upsetting that he isn't being picked so we can't get feedback on our little guy but him not being picked right now, unfortunately, doesn't mean much. :/

Yeah, it's a pretty awful situation to be in. It's doubly galling because Riot is holding out on allowing Kog to fill his niche in Solo on the off chance that he might be strong in LCS. By that logic, shouldn't every single LCS pick get absolutely dumpstered? That doesn't strike me as a healthy way to balance the game.

All it would take is making Kog's W a toggle that uses something like 7 mana per second. That would give him enough of an early game presence to actually reach late game. It would also make it so he doesn't crap out in the middle of team fights. It absolutely baffles me that Riot wants him to be the sustained damage Marksmen, yet he can't sustain his damage for more than 6 seconds.

I've been saying for a while now that his W needs to be a toggle.

A Koggle-Toggle, if you will.

I had a fun time duo laning with a Kog today as Braum, it's stupid you apply a stack of his passive to mark a target and with Kog's attack speed they get stunned very fast at which point Kog can more or less 100% them.

As long as you ban Yasuo and play more on the safe side vs poke lanes it seemed very easy to snowball.

Kog isn't bad right now. He's just underwhelming overall largely due to the niche that Riot decided to stuff him into. Totally immobile sustained damage guy. Problem is, doing sustained damage is what all ADCs do. They just do a little less than Kog in addition to doing a whole bunch of other things.

Riot might be able to balance Kog just by tweaking numbers, but I suspect if they just incrementally increased his damage until he hurts enough to be priority pick in Ranked, he would be way too strong. He needs another lever to tweak now that his anti-tank and poke levers have taken a baseball bat to the knees.

If you want an immobile artillery style ADC, why pick Kog instead of Jinx?

ive been playing kog a little bit, hes really weak in lane and cant really trade back. i used to be able to deal at least some poke damage with R but it turns out it hits for something rediculously low like 80 damage for being fairly difficult to land, very unrewarding and useless.

that leaves his Q and E, e is great, q is ok at the start of the fight, but i find myself relying solely on W to do anything at all. im not using E in team fights for the damage, its just too slow to cast when i could be getting autos and getting procs and on hit damages and ramping up in that time. sand for the same reason Q is really just for the passive attack speed.

so basically i feel really helpless a lot of the time even if i can dish out a whopping tons of damages with items.

hurricane -> bork/boots -> rageblade -> cleaver -> filler item.

i feel strong, but at the same time powerless to do anything other than W and plant myself waiting for my team to do the rest of the work for me.

I believe they have plans to buff him, Repertoir mentioned something like that recently. He'll probably be buffed in the patch following the next.

Idea for kogmaw

Let him R Q and E while AAing if W is active

He actually has a tiny little face on the end of his tail, eye spots and everything.

While using W, it opens up and lobs his spells without interrupting his basic attacks.

That would actually be really neat. Probably beyond the scope of any changes, though, since it would require new animations.
