Quick question, why does annie have 40% damage reduction?

AgeOfTheMage··21 votes·2,702 views

Not complaining, just curious.. edit: thanks for the answers, I think i know why now, the question came up cause braum can do the same thing... only in one direction(I get it blocks projectiles, like i said, just curious)

Because she used to have armor/mr buff there but Rito changed it so it couldn't be penetrated I guess.

I just came off a forum ban and didn't want to make that joke. Not for another few weeks anyway.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

Mmmm. They removed it. I wish they'd be more consistent lol, I've been banned over stupid shit but see things posted on here that are 100x worse. Hard to tell what's okay and what's not when you see "kys u retard u dont know what ur talking about" but a pun on penetration is a no-no lel.

Maximum Morde2 votes

Yeah, it's largely up to the individual mods discretion, as is the punishment. There are guidelines they follow but alot of leeway is in them. The leeway is nice on the punishment side though lol or I'd have been perma forum banned years ago.

How is that fair?

She still penetrates me...

Because without flash she needs to get incredibly close to the fight to get her damage off.

then whats the stun for? honest question

LostFr0st3 votes

That's exactly why she has the dmg reduction... she needs to get close enough before she can hit that stun if it's W or even Tibbers without flash. Otherwise she dies or gets poked out from random AoE.

MissingKayo2 votes

Protobelt says hi.

LostFr0st4 votes

Protobelt is overrated and half a flash distance that locks you out of casting spells for at least 1/2 a second after you use it. So no, that doesn't solve it.

MissingKayo2 votes

You're not going to die in half a second when the rest of your team is there as well in a team fight, nor in a 1v1.

LostFr0st3 votes

Go lane vs a heavy poke champ as Annie, get a protobelt and tell me how that went. Protobelt's best use is for flashing on top of someone and popping it to get a 'lil extra damage. The gapcloser isn't that good, the cast time pretty much equals the gapcloser.

MaeDoSan2 votes

Counters are counters we dont want champs that win everything

LostFr0st4 votes

You're correct, I should have said "play a game vs a heavy poke champ anywhere on the opposing team and try to start a fight without flash." Thanks for getting me to straighten that out^^

It's not even half the distance of flash

Then why should for example Aurelion Sol rely only on his ultimate to deal with enemies jumping inside his stars range?

Double Standard much.

LostFr0st2 votes

I could say "Because Aurelion Sol gets his damage passively from standing there."

But what you're referring to is something people have wondered since his release, and is why they're looking into tweaking him. but you knew that before you asked didn't you Stars Shaper

Stars Shaper1 votes

Being a Mastery 7 A-Sol (pun intended) I've never had an advantage by the passive stars rotating if not for some easier mana-less farming when the lane was free.

The thing is, I am fine with Aurelion Sol being so subsceptible to divers and never complained about his Q being un-detonable instantly so I started working around play patterns that allowed me few pixels of closer stun detonation. Add to this that Aurelion Sol damage isn't bursty.

Why then a character that has a stun that can either be targeted or massively damage + AoE without a deadzone also gets such a tanky (manaless 20 mana) skill? Annie doens't need it to survive, she needs it to fast satcking her stun and also survive any possible retailation with minimum effort.

LostFr0st1 votes

So you're saying he doesn't need changes and that people just need to actually dedicate time to him right? Or is there a tweak that you would favour?

Yeah, but she does have to stack it. I could see if it was on-demand, but it isn't.

While that stacking is happening and once she jumps near/into the enemy team to get into range she'll literally blow up without it.

Stars Shaper1 votes

Riot intention to lowering his skill floor and making his gameplay overall more rewarding is more than welcome.

Aurelion Sol has been in a weird place balancewise, because the meta didn't favor his counters and because of his really high skill floor (aka the minimum level of skill required to make him work consinstently) made him seem worthless in the hands of ppl who didn't have lots of games with him while also being incredibly strong when played by dedicated players (there was a spike of 7-8% in winrate).

That said, I'm welcoming changes that reward more his plays because right now you need to continously keep a high level of playing in order to deliver some impact on the game.

Back to Annie, her AA range lets her farm from a rather safe distance and I've faced a lot of Annies able to hold back and being even ungankable while stacking their stun, if she over exposes then it's right for her to be in peril. I brought up Aurelion Sol because he has the same exact weakness (can't get out of ganks/dives) but for some reason he is dead when some1 gets the upper hand while Annie can litteraly instakill you and the ganker while getting out with more than 50% of her HP.

LostFr0st1 votes

Yeah, if she gets pressure in a lane she will hold her stun. Unless somehow you can push her in and force her to use it. It can be quite frustrating. That's not due to her E though. Her E is like a buffer for Annies getting poked out while not helping to snowball Annies that are ahead.

I think with Aurelion the big thing is how disruptive to everything it is when someone removes the orbit. He's more unforgiving that way since he essentially can't fight back at all, unlike Annie.

Captain Aishi1 votes

Aurelion Sol's biggest weakness is that he can't dodge skillshots in fights

If you are fighting aurelion and you aim, for example, lux binding or ahri charm... either he gets hit and CC'd with it and you can walk out of his W's orbit, or he moves aside to dodge it and thus moves you out of his W's orbit himself, negating his damage output to you entirely

which is why you see so many people getting banshee's veil on him after rylais (because both items serve the purpose of allowing you to hit your stars more reliably)

but I still think he's in a very good spot right now and I love how his design works in the game (working around flaws of champions is what I enjoy the most in this game)

manaless?

Stars Shaper1 votes

My bad. Changed it.

Yet 20 mana is nothing compared to the benefit it gets and can easily be spammed on CD.

ReZisT Lust2 votes

understandabe and it kinda just lets her either stack her skill ot reduce burst to get closer to use her spells

Double Standard much.

Actually it's an Over-100 Standard because every champion is different.

WingsofGulgazor1 votes

because annie can't travel across the entire map lvl 2. Aurelion sol has to be weak because if he gets fed he has to much map pressure. Aurelion has his own niche and that's fine but your really comparing apples to oranges and tbh if anything Ryze should be a lot less tanky and then his spells would ideally give him a shield like annies and maybe some hp. But even if it's really good I think I would prefer riot to rework something else other then Ryze for a good while.

Stars Shaper2 votes

Fair.

I still think that it should cost mana to Annie anyway.

MissingKayo4 votes

What a tragedy. And no she doesn't. Nor does it matter when she has a near instant AOE stun nuke.

Ralanr7 votes

That AoE is rather short ranged for a mage.

MissingKayo4 votes

She has Protobelt. And people don't fight back when they're stunned or dead.

Ralanr8 votes

Protobelt is just Vayne tumble range.

I'm not saying Annie isn't dumb but you're grossly exaggerating her range here.

LostFr0st4 votes

Have you ever even played Annie...

Teemodanegro1 votes

650 auto attack range 650 Q range 600 tibber range.

YEAH I THINK SHES GOOD ON RANGED INITIATION.

Sona Ping8 votes

Quick answer: She's a short range, immobile caster.

Ahristocats1 votes

because she has point and click and instant AOES spells

but let's compensate this by giving her damage reduction

Wanna continue where we left off then?

Annie is supposed to be the anti-Assassin mage. Having a large damage reducer allows her to live through burst to counterburst.

Since when?

I mean, yeah it fits, but it seems more an unintended side affect of having mainly large AoE's and targeted abilities which are hard to outplay as an assassin, as well as being a short range burst mage.

Since her minor update that made Molten Shield a valid ability instead of just a boring stat steroid. They stated they wanted to push her a little further towards being a specialized assassin counter with those changes.

Because Riot.

woodvsmurph3 votes

gives her a nice 0 damage spell to balance out her other spells, gives her some tankiness (the damage reduction doesn't last long), gives tibbers some tank stats to survive awhile after dropping into the rift

The real ask should be :

  • Why her cc isnt a skillshot ?
  • Why can she hold his cc limitless ?

Two of abilities to proc her cc are skillshots...
