Swain is frustrating to play against.

Easiest way to beat swain is to brutally murder him pre 6.

Either by constantly killing him, are perfect for this.

Or by constantly shoving the waves. (His last hitting under a tower is really bad) are good examples for wave pushers that beat him.

The best way is to snowball him pre6, and use items like and use to counter his sustain. Pick somebody that can do these things and can cc him to prevent him from going all NEVERMORE on your ass. is probably good considering his full combo rotation won't even allow swain to retaliate, and just flat out die.

Brand is his natural counter. Brand + morello = dead swain.

hes got VERY short range. his abilities are basically auto attack range or shorter. hes not mobile at all. his only cc is a teather slow and a delayed root. his ult burns mana VERY fast, so you either need full mana for a team fight or need to use it in bursts. reason hes tanky is that his ult has built in spellvamp, so just get ignite for that. his laning is very bad as his kit is basically all dots (mostly single target dots) and high mana costs. its not uncommon for swain to have the lowest cs by the mid game. do not trade with him. hes got 2 dots that are targeted. if you fight, you go all in.

Try to outrange him. Brand does very well against him. Brand can push him in well, and his combo has a 900 range, while swain only has 1 spell that has 900 range ( I know that it is the snare, but still, buy boots fast and dodge them) A lane bully works 2. Cassie and Xerath and nice agaist him. Cassie can Q E E E E E and before 6 he has no sustain. Xerath can sit under turret and just farm like a god. And pls, for the love of god, KILL HIM QUICKLY IN TEAM FIGHTS. He is one of the best, if not the best team fighters in the game.

Though on a more serious note, Swain has a key difference than Ryze. He has no mobility. Also, he has no burst at all. 2 of his moves are DoT, and his ult is essentially the same thing. He loves extended battles where his damage can rack up. So avoid picking those kinds of fights.

Swain's abilities takes time to do damage and costs a ton of mana.

Most AD DPS champions can beat him by either out lasting him or out damaging him. Since AD champions can get LF, they can match Swain's healing somewhat. AP champions have ignite/Morro proc, but they general can't win if they trade abilities.

Swain has been ridiculous for a really long time, and it's mystifying how nobody plays him.

Swain usually builds lots of mana with little mana regen. His mana-sustain comes from passive, so try to punish him when he tries to last hit

shove him to tower and have an impact on other lanes, whether it be warding, ganking or harassing their jungler.

You ignore him and focus on shoving the wave. His damage is only even noticeable if you stand in his crap for the whole duration early on. He's so reliant on getting multiple items, he's useless unless his jungler gets him fed.

Dude have no waveclear and his cs'ing ability is literally the worst in the game

run around in circles until he runs out of mana. flash into him when he hits level 3. idk what else.

You pretty much have to get ahead of him before he hits 6. Otherwise it's going to be a long game.
