A Question about Nerfing Champs

Just a question to all of you: Do you prefer a very heavy nerf towards a champion that leaves them in a gutted state for an undisclosed amount of time until they eventually find a rework that will satisfy? Or do you prefer a slow-but-steady nerf towards a champion over a couple of patches until they find the perfect middle ground?

It's certainly difficult to choose which one is the best one, since all of them always had consequences. The heavy nerf caused a lot of outrage from the fans who mained those characters until they either changed them, reworked them or, worst case, reverted them (i.e. Rengar, Leblanc and Diana). The steady nerf just caused the fans who hated those champions to outrage at them even more, not being able to be satisfied until they could find a middle ground (i.e. Yasuo, River Riven, and Akali). Those are my thoughts, and I mainly wanted expressed this due to the posts I read about "nerf this", "gut that" and "I hate this game because of this guy". No offense if you think that, or get offended by this post. I just want to hear your opinions.

Tbh I feel like the slower nerfs are much better for those who are one-tricks in ranked. I main Diana and if they decided to nerf her to the ground I would quite literally be in the gutter for a long ass time until I get enough gameplay in to rework my build paths and runes.

I also like the idea of small reworks: for instance, I truly despise the fact that Diana's kit is very fighter-y despite her play style being that of an assassin. I think they should either give Diana an escape to make her an assassin, or boost the ap ratio of her shield to a small degree to make her a less squishy fighter. OR they could do the whole world a solid and rework her damage to make her scale w/ ad as well so that she's more along the lines of champions like katarina or akali. I personally do better on Diana than either of them, but Akali does what Diana does now, except way deadlier.

Sorry about the long diana rant but y'know. Gotta put my two cents in somewhere lol

I'd say it depends on how impactful the problem is; if the champion is just slightly over-performing then a weak but steady nerf to see what it takes to reel them into line, but if they're outclassing a significant chunk of the roster with ease then they should be gutted or reworked.
