Define "troll pick" support when history even in the highest level of play has proven that the support role is ridiculously flexible.
<- none of those were intended as bot lane supports. They've all seen pro play at some point in time.
They are niche picks though. All except for Morgana, Blitzcrank, Karma, Zilean, and of course Nautilus.
Yeah the support role is flexible, to an extent. I would describe the support role as flexible in that many support champions can sync well with a good number of ADCs. These meta supports can sync up better with a majority of bot lane partners because of their high utility. Synergy in bot lane is much more important than it was last season.
As a support main, you should not be playing Annie or Brand support as much as the other meta supports, because they're niche. They are used in specific situations to maximize your laning potential. I don't see that happen in gold and below. What I see are the special snowflakes who thinks they can make it work every time, and you just can't.
At what point do we stop and say you're putting your team at a disadvantage?
Or worse, what OP said, people build AP instead of Sightstone and Oracle because it works from time to time. The first thing you should learn when you queue up for support is champion synergy. A monkey could ward, but it takes actual knowledge to make strategic picks like these and I don't think the majority of people making them in low ELO know what they're doing.
So when Annie locks in as support with a Caitlyn ADC, I don't blame the ADC for getting salty. They clearly don't know where she works.
