Nocturne rework thoughts and discussion
With Nocturne in the 5 champions that could be updated Soon TM , I thought this is a excellent time to talk about nocturne and what people want regarding his rework , i'll start by going through his abilities and mark what i think is important about this part of his kit
Passive _ Every 10 seconds, Nocturne's next attack strikes surrounding enemies for 120% of his physical damage and heals himself for 15-40 (at levels 1-18) (+15% of ability power) per target hit. Nocturne's basic attacks reduce this cooldown by 1 second (2 seconds against champions)._
Notes - This ability ties in nocturnes synergy with AA's and shapes his jungle clear and for lane nocturne is a large part of his wave clear , while its fine , I don't have a lot attachment to it myself and could see it changed for a new one with similar goals , I'd like to keep that focus on AOE damage in the kit as it feels amazing but it could get moved to anther ability if needed
Q Nocturne throws a shadow blade which deals 65 / 110 / 155 / 200 / 245 (+0.75 per bonus attack damage) physical damage, leaves a Dusk Trail, and causes champions who are hit to also leave a Dusk Trail for 5 seconds. While on the trail, Nocturne ignores unit collision and has 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35% increased Movement Speed and 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 additional Attack Damage.
notes - Q is fairly uninspired , the trail is powerful but is fairly hidden power , since already has a gap closing mechanic as he moves very fast towards feared targets , it feels like this should just be cut and replaced , the flat ad buff is interesting as it helps make the rest of his kit work better and has a lot of synergy so i'd like that kept in one form or another as its interesting powerful and works fairly well
W Passive: Nocturne empowers his blades, permanently gaining 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 % attack speed. Active: Nocturne creates a magical shield for 1.5 seconds which will block the next enemy spell that hits him. If an ability is blocked by the shield, his passive attack speed is doubled for 5 seconds. If Shroud of Darkness is active when Nocturne re-casts Paranoia to dash to a target, it'll stay active until Nocturne reaches his target.
notes - shield shield is great , feels really impactful when you land it on the right ability , getting buffed when you block something is nice , attack speed has synergy but could be moved around as needed
E Nocturne plants a nightmare into his target's mind, dealing damage each second for total 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 260 (+100% of ability power) over 2 seconds and fearing the target for 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 / 2.25 seconds causing them to run away from Nocturne with impaired movement if they do not get out of (465) range by the end of the duration. Nocturne also gains massively increased movement speed when moving toward feared targets.
Notes E fear feels amazing when you get the tether to work with you , feels kinda bad against a lot of the cast of champions who have endless dashes , making your catching tool super escapable , point and click targeting CC would normally be something id be against but i imagine playing nocturne where you had to aim and cast two skillshots and spell shield at the right time , would be pretty frustrating , so if they wanted to change it i'd want something that doesn't require a lot of aiming or be aoe around him for example overall this does a lot for his early duelist identity as well
ULT _ Nocturne reduces the sight radius of all enemy champions and removes their ally vision for 6 seconds, this includes champions, minions, wards, towers and clairvoyance. He can then launch himself at an enemy champion (2500 / 3250 / 4000 range), dealing 150 / 275 / 400 (+1.2 per bonus attack damage) physical damage._
Notes - Iconic ability , basic function of super long range dash with vision related cc attached is basically mandatory if the rework has a different ult its a failure in my eyes , other effects could be layered on top or vision and damage numbers could be adjusted but this IS nocturne as far as im concerned Range value of ult is a huge quality of life and very important to how he feels to play
My ideal nocturne rework would be some changes to accessibility of fear for that amazing feeling move speed buff , some changes to q and potentially some of the more passive parts of his kit ,giving him more to do after he's blown the majority of his kit on a key target , making sure the focus is keeping him a assassin diver and not transitioning him to being a bruiser , supporting both his lane and jungle would be the preference , updated visuals and if possible keep support in for other play styles , like crit nocturne , bruiser nocturne if there's room for them in there
TLDR Assassin > brusier , please support both lane and jungle , ult should stay , chasing feared targets feels great but how you apply it could be changed , playstyle should be focused high target access assassin/diver with some aoe components , updated looks are a given
