@ Riot, Jhin's Niche

Curious as to Riots thoughts on what Jhin should be best in class at? I've been doing well with him since release but I feel like he's a generalist. He's Fine at most things but has a few big weaknesses. I put my consideration for best in class in brackets.

-He's fine at pushing towers, with the reload hurting him there a bit (tris, Kog

  • he's ok in team fights outputting less dps more burst then normal (MF, Sivir) -he has good clean up with his ult and w ( jinx, kog)
  • he's got some CC that can be useful but not a ton more then other adc's (Ashe)
  • He's got little to save himself from threats (Ezreal)
  • 1 v 1 he's nothing special (Draven, Vayne)
  • He's got long range spells but can't kill anyone with them unless they are quite low or Jhin is Extremely fed(?)
  • Attack range is average and it's where he has to be to use most of his damage. ( Cait , Tris)

So considering that is there something i'm missing? is it ok that he's not the best at anything or does he need a change?

he just got released. they're waiting to see what people in the challenger series and such do with him. right now that's practically nothing because yes he is underpowered in certain aspects. that's what happens when you add a new champion with a new style of gameplay into the mix. they become an outcast. all of the recent updates are more than anything focused on giving jhin a definite role in the world. they've even started giving certain champs ammo counters for abilities like caitlyn. they'll change everything around him before they change the champ himself. after all that would ruin his new gameplay mechanics. just give it some time though. eventually they'll break him.

He's a true back liner. Long range attacks and should never really be seen personally in a team fight....just his attacks/ult.

His niche is really fun to play but probably a dumb idea to use in ranked (without perhaps a full coordinated team)

He feels more like an assassin yo me. Either I get fed or blow shit up, or I don't and am pretty useless

This idea that each new champion needs to be "best in class" at something is cancer. He can root someone from a mile away. How's that for best in class?

Jhin is essentially an AD scaling/physical damage Mage.

He's a lot more like an AD Xerath than anything else, I'm not sure why you'd call Jhin a generalist as he pertains to the marksman roll. Especially considering an average marksman is 50% ranged/50% mobile, where Jhin is just crazy range (more akin to a mage).

His AA DPS (like most mages) is pretty "meh" where his AoE/range/CC is pretty solid. His Trap+Flourish combo is surprisingly fluid and easy to pull off in a pinch, and his ultimate does crazy damage. Like, stupid crazy. His ult bases are amazing: and like a mage his casting times/reload time really limit how much he can put his AA's to use (though it's also worth noting a lot of mages do have decent incentives to auto-attack).

Due to converting %AS and %Crit into raw AD: Jhin's already impressive AD ratios also shift his entire kit to a place where his AD burst gets crazy powerful, enough so it offsets AP being ~1/2 the price of AD and armor being ~35% higher on champions than MR, where Jhin can basically match the damage output of a more traditional AP/magic-damage caster.
