The Failure of Garen VS Darius Event

Last Year we had Riven Vs Yasuo, and it was a great event. But what made it so much better than this event?

The Comic.

There was some story before and after, a bit of "here's what happens now".

All we had was a crappy in-game "trailer", not only was the quality of it poor, but it couldn't do the event justice.

I got no chills, I didn't get all excited and hyped, I felt "ok, there is that, ok".

Top notch.

You know, if I were a small indie company like Riot, I'd hire an artist, and while it might cost a million, or perhaps even two million, I would spring for a few pages of art.

I know that Riot can't afford these types of things, but maybe in the future if they sell a few skins to fund the project?

Honestly I wanted to make a bigger post about how it just felt empty, and list a ton of reasons why.

But in the end it all came down to this.

Pick a side to get some random tokens.

Buy a skin if you like it.

Thats it.

You know what would help? A meter. Maybe it was a lot closer than it was and God-King Garen nearly won? I wouldn't know, there was only a "Who is winning now" indicator. Not by how much, not even a gauge like "This side is winning by a little" or "This side is crushing their foe!"

If you want people to get invested, have some lore behind it, or just a damn comic.

Also no Light Vs Dark crap.

You did it twice in a row.

People are bored of it.

Was it classic? Yes.

Was it a great way to start this type of VS stuff? Absolutely.

Do we want the same repackaged shit so you can sell us some semi-nice made skins? No. Not at all.

When you make an event like this, you get 2 sides. So at most, you get 2 skins. You're going to obviously do this for the more popular champions, the ones that can sell skins. I don't fault you for that, it's smart.

But it still brings the point up, what do you do for the rest of us who don't play either champion, or want something more from the event?

This event was dissapointing.

I don't mind Riot going for cash grabs. But make it worth my time.

I've spent money in the past just for their good business practices, quality they put behind their product, and fair pricing.

I've spent over 1,300 bucks on this game, and I don't regret my investment.

The problem is, this even wasn't worth getting excited about.

You know what this event did? The one thing that it made matter?

It brought URF back for an extended time. That is what it did, that is its' claim to fame.

Good job, you played 2nd fiddle to a random game mode. Cheers.

I don't like the event because of the dark vs light crap with it. Both events were won by the dark side, Yasuo and then Darius. Everyone just picks their dark edgelord, making the event predictable. They need to change up thematics.

I don't think it's so much that Dark Edgelord = better. The fact that whenever they do Light/Order they don't really give you a reason to want to vote for that side.
