Why is Death Fire Touch so good on Illaoi?

Her most popular and most successful builds both have it, but I don't see why it's so great on her, her kit seems like it would be more suited to Grasp. I'm just curious.

Her E counts as single target for a 4 sec burn every time you hit the spirt and everything else sucks on her

Strength is better in tanky builds because her W is an empowered auto. Warlord's is better in offensive builds for increasing lifesteal that synergizes with the %missinghealth heal on tentacles. DFT is some weird gimmicky shit sort of like how it's good on Jhin that pretty much only serves as pure damage that's moreso for extra bullying in laning.

Illaoi is a caster fighter. Grasp is good most of the time if you're going full tank, but in a build where you go the 3 good damage items on her item 3071 item 3812 item 3053 / item 3156 DFT helps with late game damage and the burn is pretty good tbh along with the 7% armor pen.

I've taken an interest in stormraiders because her main weakness is CC

Looking at sites other than champion.gg, it seems to be an artifact of showing only a couple of specific mastery combinations.

Looking at leagueofgraphs (which shows pick rate on a per mastery basis but no win rates) DFT is only used on her in 13-ish % of Plat+ games globally while Storm Raider's Surge is taken in 22.3% and Grasp of the Undying is taken in 52.9% of games.

Looking on op.gg (which shows keystone popularity and win rate without considering other masteries taken with them), in NA and EUW the popularity of keystones are Grasp > DFT > Storm Raider. In Korea it is Storm Raider > Grasp > Thunderlord > DFT. Though it does seem DFT has about 1 to 2% higher winrate than the other keystones for these regions.

probably just the 1 or 2 odd illaoi mains going full ad and rektibg over the enemy team.

I assume people take DFT on Illaoi because they just want Battering Blows, and DFT is the only keystone in the offense tree that does much for her.

The reworked Fervor in preseason would probably work on her, since it grants AD now and Illaoi can stack it by hammering the spirit.

why would she use grasp? she wants to smack you with tentacles. she doesnt auto attack a lot.

dft isnt actually really good on her, since she doesnt stack a lot of ad. but its the only mastery she really synergizes with, next to strength of the ages. but thats less reliable in lane, as it forces you to get every single cannon minion.

I have seen Illaoi run warlords as well.
