MMR & LP

There has got to be a better system in place.. or in the works for ranked... I'm sorry I'm sure there are a lot of other similar threads... but none of them were from me.. and I deserve my chance to vent....

Honestly it isn't really that hard... there is already a faux letter grading system after every match....so it should be implemented in deciding how much LP one loses/gains... MMR should work the same as well... If you lose the game yet managed to get a "S" or "A" rating... the amount of LP you lose is slightly decreased... Grades "B" or below, you simply lose the same amount of LP you would originally... Whereas if you win the game.. and get an "S" or "A" the amount of Lp gained stays the same regardless... however.. even with winning.. grades "B" or below... the amount you gain is slightly reduced... Meaning you contributed very little to that victory and will be rewarded accordingly... This is something so small.. but would improve a screwed up system...

I just don't like how random the lp distribution feels. LIke... I will win 3 games in a row and get 16-17 lp/game and then lose 1 and lose 22. Then I will win won and get 23 and then lose 1 and lose 17. It just seems like the game does a random # between 25-15 with increased chances to be between 20-16. I know mmr is supposed to factor in but it just seems so random. I know I have seen some diamond players bitching about this when trying to get into masters. I understand it probably gets confusing up at the super high elo end but it just seems so random even at super low elos.

I'll tell you a secret.

LP gains and losses are also dependent on which side of the map you are on.

If your team is first-picking, expect to lose 22 and gain 16-17, because you are on blue side, or the bottom side of the map. When I duo with my friend, I almost always get on blue side.

If not first-picking, you are on red side. You'll gain 20-22 and lose about 17.

Though MMR used to play a bigger part, the side literally makes the difference. I won't tell you your MMR is shit, because its probably not. It's Riot's shitty programming and how they won't listen to players. I played 30 games with my duo partner over the few weeks, and we were always on blue side. You can't climb that way.

IMO, MMR should be shown, and you shouldn't be allowed to play on one side for more than two games. It's absurd. I hope I shared some knowledge, I've ranted about it before, but its down voted to oblivion.

Doesn't seem like what side you are on should play a part, but it does seem like I get less lp from blue side rather than red.

Apparently, you win more games statistically on blue side, which is why that's there, if you believe that.

Personally, I like red side better because there's less ways of getting ganked if you're bot lane (where I play most often), and you don't have to blow summs or risk getting out of position to contest a dragon.

I never thought about the less ganks on red side for bot lane haha, but yea that's true. I main support and like buying a pink ward at the start and placing it in tri on blue side so I have always liked blue side. But if you are on red side then you do not have to worry about tri bush as much, so that is something for me to think about.

Eh I doubt there is any truth to the one side gets more lp than the other. I would believe statically blue side might win more, but I would think the stats across all boards would have to be very close to 50%. In the end I just wish each game wasn't so random as far as lp. Maybe it was because until recently I was in silver 1 for over a month and I think you on average get less lp in division 1 of a tier than in other divisions. I know it used to be that way back in season 3, but thought they changed it. I just feel like you should get 20 lp at a minimum as this winning 6 games in a row just to get into promos (if starting at 0 lp) seems retarded. That and if you get more equal lp gains and losses then it would minimize this having 95-99 lp bullshit. Everyone wants to have to play a game to get 2 LP... to get into their promo game its always a blast.

I always gain more on red side and lose more on blue side. But its bullshit either way you look at it. Riot is more worried about releasing the next skin set than dealing with the things that make League the sub-par eSports game choice. Did you know that despite Lulu's polymorph saying that the polymorphed victims can't cast spells, Tryndamere can ult while polymorphed? Yet Tryndamere's ultimate does not say it ignores CC.

This is Riot games. There is 0 communication between the people who care about this game, and the developers.

I did not know that about Lulu. Yea there seems to be a lot of things like that Riot is not addressing. I know a lot of people have complained about Yasuo windwall and what it does & does not block. Not sure if Azir ult is supposed to stop people from going through it after he uses it (I think it is) but found out last night Tristana W does not go over it.

As much as I like skins & other concepts I really wish they would focus on improving what they already have. I am excited to see how the new ranked system works (no idea when it is supposed to be released though). But if they would focus on touching some things up that would help a lot.

The variance in lp win/loss is based off the mmr/elo differencials.

If you have 1200 ranked mmr (aka silver 5) and win a game vs a team of 1350 avg mmr, you will win more LP (i.e. 25 lp) or if you lose in these same circumstances you will lose alot less (i.e. 15 Lp)

If you play a game and win vs a team of similar mmr you will win or lose about 20 lp. The system is designed to make you reach promos if u win 5 games from 0 Lp.

In another instance if you play with an mmr of 1200 and win vs a lower mmr avg team, you will win substancially less Lp. Or if you lose vs them, you will lose much more.

Which side you play on has absolutely no impact on the Lp gains.

Mmr and Ranked mmr are also entirely different and seperate statistics. People aren't shown their normal mmr because it would induce competitive pressure on people who just want to practice.

You can be diamond 1 in ranked mmr, if you play like silvers do in norms, you eventually get matched with them. That is why norm matchmaking is so unbalanced.

You can get a team of 2 unranked, 1 bronze, 2 plats VS. 3 silvers, a plat and a diamond because all these people have similar norms mmr.

Hope that answers some questions.

I still don't understand why Riot doesn't want to just show your MMR...

This suggestion is honestly dumb and I suppose only low elo players would upvote that. The grades you get at the end of the game are based on stuff such as your KDA and CS but KDA is completely meaningless to determine how well a player played or how much he contributed to a win. Who did more, the 3-8 Tryndamere who took 5 towers and 3 inhibs before dying 1v4 while his team took baron and then cleaned up the fights or the 7 1 Lux who just sat mid all game and ulted low hp targets? Just because you are 10 0 and get an S+ you think you should lose less or win more LP than your teammates? It is a teamgame and the first mistake you and all the guys who are stuck in low elo (and hence upvoted your thread) make is that they don't understand that and look at their score thinking they did well without knowing what it is important to actually win a game.

Eh if you think LP/MMR is based solely on winning/losing then you are mistaken
