Why is Aatrox such a popular ban?
He's got a 46.5% winrate in Plat+, so I legitimately don't understand why his ban rate is so high. Just curious.

He is a legit ban in pro and challenger, and lower elos often copy that.
Also people tend do ban things that are really oppressive when played right, even if the average player sucks with it
I honestly think its just a case of people emulating pros just because.
He's legit good dude. Most of worlds he was a pick or ban.
Because he is an obnoxious character that people don't want to deal with. Yasuo has a higher ban rate than him with similar winrates for the same reason.
48.5 winrate at mid with 25 average games btw the winrate you are quoting is top with 5.3 average games so basically people who never even play that character. You would have seen this on whatever site you used to get your numbers but you only used the ones that were convenient for your argument.
Winrate is heavily effected by the champion difficulty. E.g. Lee sin has always had a very low winrate or leblanc both are usually 48 or lower. Since this means that there are going to be more matches with people below the skill needed to be good with the champion bringing the numbers down.
Also people are slow to figure out how to predict newer characters so odds are some tops find laning against Aa annoying.
Aatrox's base damage is extremely high. I've seen SUPPORT Aatrox with the second coin upgrade do 1/3 of someone's health with 1 q cast. You just have to be decent with him and you can basically take over the game. His ultimate allows him to effectively negate all-ins.
Because he's pick/ban in pro play so people somehow believe that means he's also op in casual play
i mean hes not bad mainly annoying same deal with akali just on a lesser scale she has a pretty doo doo win rate but almost has a 70% ban and she most defiantly is not a bad champion
Ban rate has nothing to with win rate. Akali is 46% win rate and the most banned champ.
He's frustrating and a pain to deal with, Riven on steroids, went from a champ who was fair to fight in lane with obvious windows of power to annoying manaless poke and sustain. He needs to be nerfed so pros don't play him then the bans will go down.
Sometimes, the winrate doesn't say how weak a champion is. Sometimes, it tells you had bad people are with that champion.
