@Riot Shen isn't broken. Why fix him?

P0IS0N IVY··7 votes·1,658 views

That dodge looks OP but tbh, he's worst than before. He no longer has reliable poke. His sustain has been reduced massively. The dodge component only works against autoattacks.

In order to make use of his Q, you must be aggressive. In order to make use of his passive, you must be aggressive. And yet Shen's ult is completely defensive. That spirit blade is barely controllable. Shen can no longer last hit from a distance.

So why Riot? D:

they just need to increase the dodge duration, 1.5 sec with its drawbacks is way nothing

meanwhile windwall which is generally better has .3.75 sec duration

I've been playing Shen since season 1 and all I can say I am disappointed af about the changes. He's my main I love him, everything about his current kit and visuals. His current passive makes him strong early game for decent trading, it scales of hp which is great for Shen as a bruiser vs his current passive which is pretty much his feint. Now Shen's Q, think of the match ups like renekton, Darius, ect. I can't exaggerate how much he needs his Q, it's his poking/sustain and last hitting tool and taking that from him literally cripples his top lane potential (also it's his ranged kill move) vs his current Q skill that isn't ranged and positioning it sounds like a hassle. W is good tbh low CD-R would be nice if feint would have a small aoe dmg after the shield breaks vs new W is something I like but seems broken for the game if it protects ADC from autos idk...anyways visuals / animations are a downer too...rip Shen

I played shen since the day league only had 30 champions, since Beta, I can prove the time that I've been playing on http://wasted-on-lol.com/top/na/1/ I am rank #80'ish anyways

Shen is officially dead from top lane and moved to support role if they go on with this rework To me, he was a unbreakable wall, you can easily go evenly top lane while you babysit bot lane and ult when you needed to and TP, he could break games if played in good hands. I really hope they don't go through with this rework. Shen

Pretty much... I made a long post basically explaining how he got gimped, however i think we are of a minority here because too many people think shen is boring and this creates a more "exciting" experience.

Apparently, Shen being an unbreakable wall was a problem. Just like Garen, Darius, and Mundo, who are also unbreakable walls, but no one cares about them.

Tanks are supposed to be "unbreakable walls". But unbreakable walls aren't supposed to do a lot of damage, a problem Garen, Darius, and Mundo seem to have. Shen has never been a big damage dealer. His old kit is what I call a good example of a tank.

Reworks on the PBE. Nothing you can do to stop them.

His kit was old, his kit was boring.

Boring =/= LCS Big Plays.

He wasn't broken nor was he fixed, he was updated.... too much buffs for older champions and op newer champions was making him obsolete. just saying. a lot of people couldn't play him against champions with the newer style abilities. I mean when he is 4 levels higher than a champion with more items and he can't get close enough to hit them and they can chase him down and kill him it's kind of stupid.

Dreadlocks5 votes

You are clearly showing you dont play Shen.. at least not very well.

Critmaster Garen1 votes

if were completely honest, shens theme and his playstile entirely contradict each other.

a bruiser/tank simply doesnt make much sense for a ninja. technically completely reworking him into an assassin would have made more sense.

not saying they should do it. people got attached to his playstile and abilities, and now he is what he is. but if the same champion was designed today, he would be something entirely different gameplay wise.

Except there are far better champions to rework right now.. Shen didnt need it nearly as bad.

Shen also didn't take nearly as much effort. He's more or less healthy for the game even with a low-impact lane phase. They just added a little something for him to do when he isn't ulting or taunting.

Dreadlocks2 votes

Yeah it didnt take much effort cuz they ruined him.

They could have simply removed Shen's Q, W, and passive and left him with nothing in those slots and he would still be good.

Ninja are not assassins, they were spies. Stealth is a ninja, ninja is stealth.

ok well. he isnt stealthy either. and stealth in this game is mostly associated with assassins.

even kennen with his magey playstile works better with the ninja theme imo. im not saying thy should change him. but riot themselves basically said that it is kindof weird to make a ninja who is a fighter/tank.

Yeah, he really does have zero stealth abilities or even scouting abilities for that matter lol. I guess he's more of a bodyguard if anything.

Actually i can but when kindred can 3 shot me it's kinda bullshit when i'm 3 level higher than her.

Catastrop1 votes

I don't think you were Shen'ning right.

pE4CbxDPQO1 votes

Probably because he was too boring OR that he was kinda feast or famine.

TiiGz1 votes

He wasn't broken, his skills were just dated. When champs are broken they get nerfed, when they are dated they get updated.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

I think you missed the meaning of broken in this case. Riot tried to fix something that wasn't broken. If you want to talk about "dated" champs there are plenty of better options.

Phoenix Kotori 2 votes

Other dated champions take far more effort see fiora/poppy reworks being much larger gameplay scale than Shen, so riot took the chance to do a lower scale rework on between Poppy & Taric's major ones.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

Except the point is that Shen doesn't need a rework. And this rework made him worse. Where's his sustain? Why is being forced to be aggressive?

Phoenix Kotori 1 votes

He got a free shield & dodge instead of sustain and was generally given more interaction.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

He had a shield before. The dodge is only for those who auto attack.

Not every champion has to be played aggressively. Not everything is about LCS big plays.

Earl Eulrich1 votes

they don´t fix anything ,they´ll just make him disappear -apparently their way of making him fit the ninja-theme. Too sneaky to see play.

Big Lincoln1 votes

i think they sort of have the right idea but they executed it wrong. his glowing sword feels very lackluster and unintuitive, but I like the empowered auto attacks

The spirit-sword-fling of his Q should be aimable, it'd make him a lot more interesting i think (I still think it should do damage but w/e riot probably won't) His W definitely needs to scale up in duration with levels, it's too short

i didn't play shen that much because I think he's boring and generic, but he at least looks more appealing on paper. just need to change it to work better in practice
