I'm actually surprised at the effort Riot made to destroy ARURF

Limiting the champ pool and forcing snowball. It's not like anyone asked for it. Why???? Who came up with this idea???

I'd be fine with the snowball, but the champ pool is... eeeeh...

RocketRelm9 votes

Yeah, I actually like the snowball a lot. Since the typical load out is Flash-Teleport, Snowball serves teleport's purpose, but significantly cuts down on the Rat potential.

I don't necessarily have feelings about the reduced champ pool either. Sure, it'd be nice if we had the full champion pool, but "all random" kind of invalidates any kind of fucks I give about the champion pool already, so it's a moot point. Sure half the champions are gone, but I wasn't picking my champion anyway, so eh.

Andrey03451 votes

Yeah, just playing same champions over and over gets really boring really fast. The champs are getting so repeated in every game it just not fun anymore.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Sounds like normal URF...

Andrey03454 votes

At least there was some diversity, where I could choose what to play, from 130 champ pool.

In all fairness I think they just wanted to give us something else for Christmas than LotPK

This is hopefully the correct answer. It gives a more positive spin.

ModKnightsKemplar7 votes

I think it's pretty clearly the correct answer, but I'm sure that doesn't make a lot of people feel any better.

If what you want is a persistent URF queue (and many people do, I think), this doesn't really cut it. It only comes around a few times a year, so extra limitations only bring it down further. On top of that, I think those extra limitations haven't been clearly communicated.

For clarity, none of this bothers me, personally. I've never loved URF. But I see why the people that do love URF are disappointed. It makes sense.

Daedric Etwahl8 votes

It's definitely the correct answer. And to be honest, a game mode in the snow, throwing snowballs and everyone in their winter getup does sound like a cute idea for Christmas on paper, but in execution... eh...

P0IS0N IVY5 votes

Give us snowball if you really want. But taking away half the champ pool is a pretty shitty thing to do for Christmas.

URF is meh in general. It gets boring super fast because of the one sided games. The only people who love URF dont enjoy competition, they just love trolling.

Super fast and one sided games huh? So..... how is that different from the regular game right now?

They're substantially faster and much more one-sided.

I'm looking back at my match history and its pretty much the same times as a regular game. Old URF sure, much faster, but in snowbally preseason meta, I'm not seeing much difference.

forreal man. in normals games a twitch/mf and their support get even 2 kills its gg at 15/20 minutes( hyper carry mid also can become unkillable if they get backup). in Arurf you can atleast fight back kinda till 20/25 minute mark, unless you get useless champs and they get syndra/kassawin then its game over at 13 minutes.

Yeah many of my Urf games feel like they were longer than a normal game. I know they were about the same but still.

Nymzo10 votes

2 games and I already stopped.

First, got Kassawindin, literally spammed my q all game, there's nothing the kata could do.

Second game, Mf, we got recked despite building Lethality Mf.

Awhegark8 votes

You don't play Miss Fortune like an ADC in URF. You build her as an ult bot.

ShaolinToilet3 votes

Last urf she was op with her w and q crit build

Magus Polaris4 votes

That's just an URF problem, in general. The specific type this one is is not the cause. MF isn't bad in URF either.

Häxel7 votes

you know, instead of having everytime the same mode they wanted to create something special. its not like this mdoe will come like that back in the future. After holydays are over if arurf (or urf) returns it will again have all champs, all summonerspells, no winterskins and no snowball.

Hey, poro king is an amazing game mode imho. Ascension not so much

FirewaterDM2 votes

nah, both are bad but Poro King, especially after the snacks update is easily the worst of the random extra games

Daedric Etwahl1 votes

Idunno, AR SR was pretty shitty...

FirewaterDM1 votes

nah, that's playable- admittedly they made it better the last time but Poro King is actually just imbalanced/there really isn't much gameplay.

Daedric Etwahl1 votes

I mean they're all playable, AR SR was literally just Summoner's Rift but your champ is random. No extra gold gen or anything to help the game go faster.

Tenth Leper4 votes

I think it is kind of neat using all winter skins and throwing snowballs. It is very thematically snowdown.

That said, it has all the problems of arurf plus more, since not only can you not choose what you want to play, the champ you want might not be in the pool at all.

Daedric Etwahl2 votes

Exactly, the thought of the champions all running out into the snow in their winter outfits and having a big snowball fight for Christmas sounds like a cute idea on paper.

Unfortunately it just doesn't translate super well...

Jezbo4 votes

I think ARF is an obnoxious game mode anyways. Let it die.

AR was implemented so that people wouldn't pick the same champs over and over, basically creating an URF meta that Riot had to address. Given that URF is a temporary, time-sensitive queue - Riot doesn't need to control the meta as much but will still deal with outliers if they're way out of line and making the side they're on win/lose hard. A limited champ pool was then introduced to also curbstomp accounts who only buy specific ARAM/URF strong champs and don't specifically have any weak picks.

Now, this champ pool was made from champs who have a Christmas skin, ice skin or a festive skin at the least (Whistler Village Twitch, Festive Kassadin). Lissandra actually uses her base skin from what i saw. This champ pool is maybe not to your liking but it being an AR mode already removes the choice of your picks so there should be no problems there. And even if Riot picks the comps, there are still champs that can be classified as broken, currently being Mao/Fizz, Sivir. So it's not really Riot's handpicked team that forces people into playing underwhelming champions.

The inclusion of Snowball also helps equalize melee champions in terms of ranged vs melee comps. What is most dissatisfying is that ranged champions often can spam their things from a safe range and if you ever get dealt a melee champ that can't really do anything but take the abuse, you're going to have a bad time. The snowball allows you to reach your lane faster and it also serves as a reliable gap closer to those ranged champs to feel threatened.

URF has been dead to be after the first time. Sure, spamming things is nice but there's only so much i can enjoy the spamfest before it gets boring really fast as most of the champions i don't want to even try there. In any case, i was much more interested in Poro King as i could've picked Kindred and Quinn, which i wanted to try to learn how to play for a while. And it saves me the trouble of having to run SR games and i could've avoided ARAM as well.

I played ARURF still (for the missions) and i enjoyed it as well. Even as i played Nidalee (against Jax, Fizz, Kassadin and Zilean), i got shafted so hard because playing an assassin that relies on a skillshot that you can't ever hit on those targets is just...terrible. However, with a score of 0/13 from that game (loss), i expected to come out as salty as the Dead Sea. But surprisingly enough i still found the game enjoyable and funny for some reason.

?

Spewing theoretical bullshit doesn't do jack. The mode is less fun than ever, period. Case closed.

Iffy Jarl3 votes

I think they feel threatened by urf

Pinkaj2 votes

It's different, but the champ pool isn't very great, especially going against a Veigar. It's not fun to get ulted by him every 30 or so seconds, and if you're tanky well he has that lil circular cage :(

Traveel2 votes

Riot ruined urf

Wráthful2 votes

ppl love urf they will never get bored of it see the que times instant everytime. a lot of ppl want urf for soooooo long but all we get is fucking ascension every week or poro king ... aren't we bored by those two already to pretend that urf gets u bored faster than the other ugly mods that no one plays.

The Öutcast2 votes

limit the champ pool, but lets keep maokai, he's not broken af

Kushinada2 votes

I mean if you think about it... Quoting a post on Reddit

"We complained about picking same champions ? ~ Riot delivers All Random

We complained about weak champions? ~Riot delivers smaller champ pool with most common picks for URF"

Though I'm not a huge fan of the snowball but, I prefer it over Teleport by a ton

Kuromatsu2 votes

i dont mind a limited champ pool as long as its the right champs. I mean some champs just spam their get out of jail free ability non stop and makes for very unfun if you cant even target them.

Dorans Pants2 votes

my first reaction:

-"oh so can use Christmas-themed skins, huh that´s neat." -"but what do they do if a champ hasn´t got one? ."wait a minute, riot you goofed up again. Congratulation!" [zombie-brand-clap]

ADepressedLeona2 votes

I really fail to see how anyone enjoyed urf period

Playing against urf Zed, Shaco, Fizz, Ez etc made me wanna rip off my dick and shove it up my own asshole. Mode should have been renamed "Play a handful of extremely broken champions or don't have fun"

Fawksea1 votes

only thing im not okay with is flash being enforced, so no ghost

Nea1041 votes

Snowballing could be fine if not related to the huge unbalancing between the teams.

thekid91001 votes

I had 10000x more fun in Poro King.

Why?

I knew who I was playing. That's it. Just let us pick, Riot.

Mighty Mortein1 votes

Snowday URF is like ARURF but more of a forced meta. And it sucks. There are more chances to get these OP champions and it now sucks even more when you get a mediocre champion, even though the champion pool is seriously cut down.

Blåbæret1 votes

Probably **Ghostcrawler's **idea.
