Death Recap has SO Many Issues
Alright, so I've got a couple things I would like to point out about the death recap, and how I think it should be improved. Main points:
- Only shows a few abilities
- Only shows 3 enemies
- Items/passive damage labeling
- Minions
- The "Death recap" button itself
- My idea for a new system
-- Only shows a few abilities -- In the death recap, it only shows you 3 abilities/sources of damage per enemy, which makes no sense at all. First of all, every champion has 4 abilities and a passive, and many champions also have additional sources of damage from items, passive, and other miscellaneous things depending on the situation. Given that this is true, you are ALMOST ALWAYS going to be taking damage from more than 3 sources for each person. This ends up ruining the point of the death recap because you are not receiving anywhere near all of the information. -- Only shows 3 enemies -- If you died in a teamfight, you probably took damage from more than 3 people, so in what world does it make sense to only show the damage you received from 3 people. There is not much more I could say about this without rambling on or repeating myself, but hope it is quite obvious to most that this makes no sense. -- Item/passive damage labeling -- Within this section there will be 2 subsections: damage sources not being labeled, and damage sources not being sorted/labeled properly. As for the first one, how is it, that after how many years now that thornmail has existed, that its damage is still shown as an unlabeled damage source? This is pretty pathetic. All sorts of items and passives show up as damage with no label, just how much damage and weather it was magic or physical, then you are forced to guess as to what the actual cause was. This absolutely needs to be fixed! Also, I feel that many things are misrepresented. For example, draven's Q autoattacks all show up as draven's Q, as apposed to X damage from draven's actual autoattacks, and Y damage from the Q bonus damage. I know that vayne's Q has the same issue. Another point to make on this is that multiple damages from the same source are combined with absolutely no indication of how many times you were hit by it. For example if you got hit by 2 ezreal Q's for 100 damage each, the game would simply say you took 200 damage from ezreal's Q, which can be very misleading. -- Minions -- While I did just preach that you should be shown all of the different aggressors that killed you, breaking each minion down into its own entity is just an absolutely idiotic idea. First of all, minion aggro is a very important source of damage in early laning trades, and the fact that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to see how much damage you actually took from all the minions is detrimental to the entire purpose of the death recap. -- The "death recap" button itself -- When the death recap button was first introduced (I don't know when), there was not a HUD at the top of the screen that showed timers . Now there is... How simple is it to move the death recap button 75 pixels so that you can easily see/ping the timers at the top of the screen. This is literally a 5 second coding fix that I have suggested before, and I have no clue why they haven't fixed this already.
-- My idea for a new system -- First of all, I think one of the most important things is that every champion/entity that damaged you should be represented. If you took damage from 5 champions and baron, all of them should be shown. Equally as important, every source of damage from each of these entities should be represented. If a champion hit you with all 4 abilities, 2 actives, and a passive, they should ALL be shown. A side note on this is that they should also ALL be accurately labeled, not just show up as a random 400 damage you took from thornmail or some passive. Also, minions should be grouped into 1 entity, showing you in total how much minion aggro you took. Another point is that if you got hit with the same ability multiple times, you should be informed of how many times you took damage from that ability. A bar as a visual may also be helpful to indicate this visually, and also to show that each one of the same abilities may have done different damage, such as how draven's ult does less damage as it passes through more targets. Lastly, just move the button down a little bit so we can properly see the HUD at the top.
