Is there any lane matchup Jax wins?

Title....he used to have g ood matchups against auto attackers like Tryndamere, Riven or Aatrox and even usually stomped Riven before his nerfs in Season 4...now he gets murdered by all of those.

IMO Jax wins against most ad tops. Just max your counter strike, start with flask no pots take raptors and get cloth. Go aggresive lvl 2. Jump on them with leap strike and once they start to auto start to dodge. Sometimes if you zone them off the wave too and get lvl 3 before they hit 2, and kill them.

Spicy Rice1 votes

Imo keep it as a one point wonder and max w first. It's an auto reset, can be used during cunterstrike and just does a lot of damage

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

No he doesn't...sorry, I am not trying to insult you but you are Bronze IV where most people don't know how to play a lane matchup. His E is easily avoidable for almost any toplaner and he gets outdamage by pretty much ANYONE in the early levels. You should never start Flask on him, you need the extra hp and damage from Dorans Blade (which also helps you do the camps faster).

Maybe an Urgot.

He can't even farm safely vs Urgot.

That's pretty sad.

He can't even farm safely vs Urgot.

Urgot hard counters him yo.

He's still very strong against Auto-attack champs. Trynd, Xin, Aatrox and Nasus... he's just a lot stronger as a jungler now.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Nasus is a direct counter to Jax.

SH Azykan2 votes

Urgot is a huge lane bully, and doesn't rely on Auto's for trading. How on earth would Jax win that lane early?

Yasuo Rengar Fiora

They all outdamage him hard early game...if he hits 6 he can beat them in a straight duel but before that he gets bullied.

So... hit six?

Do you want me to list all the champions that need to hit six before they actually win lane?

Akali Anivia Darius Diana Galio Hecarim Kassadin Katarina Malzahar Poppy Tryndamere

Just off the top of my head.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

I can see why you are Bronze...do you even understand what it means to get bullied before level 6? It means you fall behind really hard and even when you hit 6 and get your "powerspike" you are behind enough it doesnt even matter...and this lsit of champions is complete bullshit.

Who does Anivia not oudamage before level 6? Or Darius? Malzahar? Tryndamere? Have you actually played those champs? Or Hecarim? You gotta be kidding me. Akali, Diana and Kassadin are weak before 6, yes but after 6 they rape most of their lane opponents. That is not the case for Jax though when he hits 6.

Dedrius3 votes

Thats because he is a late game hyper carry. That is like saying Poppy is bad because she gets bullied in lane except she can basically 1v5 late game.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Like you said, Poppy actually can 1v5 late game..Jax cannot. He has a hard time 1v2ing now and he is nowhere near the godlike lategame he used to have. While also having a very weak laning phase.

Spicy Rice2 votes

I'm guessing you never got both Bork and triforce on Jax. Probably didn't buy armor and mr after and never activated ult

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Yes...try to teach me Silver V.

Spicy Rice3 votes

I'm trying. But you're so biased that I'm failing

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Do you really think you know better than me how to play this champ when I am more than 10 divisions higher ranked than you? Maybe he can 1v5 in Bronze/Silver V elo...but not from Gold-Challenger, sorry.

Spicy Rice2 votes

while I probably don't know as much about the game as you, I'm pretty sure that if my friends can use Jax to win a match in a master promotion series, he isn't that bad

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

He isn't that bad but the point is he loses every laning phase while not being as good lategame as he used to be. There is no need for him to be that weak in lane.

Dedrius1 votes

That is just not true, if you go Tri then either gunblade or Botrk then full tank then you can destroy everyone late game.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Yes 1v1 he destroys everyone...no one said anything against that. But he cannot 1v5 like Poppy can.

Dedrius1 votes

Late game he can easily jump into a team and 1v3 at least if the jax is good

Dreadlocks1 votes

Wrong, Jax wins all these match ups even pre 6

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Maybe in your elo...but I don't play in Silver.

Dreadlocks1 votes

Even in higher elos, You just have to not suck ass with Jax :)

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

You have a 20 percent winrate in ranked with Jax and try to tell me you know how strong this champ is. There is a reason why you are Silver despite having almost 400 ranked games this season...you don't understand this game or the champs.

Dreadlocks1 votes

I never claimed to be a good Jax player lol

MaizeCraze1 votes

Get item 3057 and hit 6, that power spike is enough to win most lanes that you are even with or ahead of. If you are behind, it will still be effective when the opponent tries to trade with you.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Who does he beat when he gets Sheen and hits level 6? Name one champ.

MaizeCraze1 votes

Assuming you AA + AA (get 2 stacks on ult), then Q + W on a champion, these matchups are pretty easy. Off of the top of my head:

Aatrox Akali Chogath Ekko Fiora Gangplank Gnar Irelia Lissandra RekSai Renekton Rengar Riven TahmKench Teemo Tryndamere MonkeyKing

Obviously there are more non-meta picks that Jax would beat, but I didn't list them above.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Out of those Wukong, Gnar, Renekton and Lissandra are direct counters and stomp Jax if played correctly. Akali, Cho Gath and Irelia used to be even matchups but they can 100-0 Jax now at level 6 after his hp nerfs in Season 4. Fiora and Riven stomp him hard before level 6 and can easily kill him if he makes one mistake, same goes for Renger even though that is usually no problem for Jax Tryndamere is a skill matchup but Trynda has a solid advantage early game and can snowball hard. Reksai and Tahm Kench just suck top lane. Teemo sucks in general. Aatrox can't duel Jax but he can max E and farm and poke safely.

MaizeCraze1 votes

If played correctly

I would say that statement is true for 95% of matchups. However, humans are not robots and are prone to making mistakes.

Wukong only has the upperhand if he clones Jax's jump and avoids the stun. If he combos with QE and then decoys, Jax can jump on him easily.

As a Gnar main, Jax needs to avoid a few things. When Mega, make sure W has been used or the boulder has already been thrown. When mini, an optimal engage is when Gnar's hop is on CD: however, this is a rare ocurrance if the Gnar player knows what he is doing. However, Jax can positively trade when Gnar's boomerang is on CD so hyper can only be stacked once (E doesn't block hyper from stacking)

Upon revision of my choices (as I said, off the top of my head) I would agree with you about Renekton and Lissandra. While not unwinnable, they are definitely harder than other matchups. I would only see Jax beating Lissandra if ring of frost doesn't stop him mid-air and Jax can dodge Q semi-decently. As for Renekton, Jax has to play safe until 6 if he wants a shot at winning lane.

As for Fiora and Riven, Jax can survive pre-6 if he plays passively and saves E for when the enemy engages. However, Riven would still get some damage from Q and W (reduced by 25%) and probably dodge the stun with her E. Against both champions, Jax can jump out with Q if he has minions behind him and it is off cd.

I don't really think Trynd has a shot at Jax before 6. Tryndamere might be able to dodge the stun similar to Riven, but Tryndamere will only deal damage from his spinning slash, which is again reduced by 25%. Usage of Mocking shout won't do much, as Jax deals a considerable amount magic damage early assuming he has maxed W and proc'd ult on the enemy.

So you agree that Jax would win against RekSai , TahmKench , and Teemo ? After all, your initial inquiry was for me to name one champion that Jax would win against and you agreed upon three.

If you want my reasoning on any or all of the champs I didn't mention, feel free to ask.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

I am sorry, not trying to insult you or anything but I don't think you have played those matchups. Renekton completey destroys Jax until level 11 and then he should have a lead big enough to already have won the game. Wukong straighout bursts Jax, there is nothing Jax can do to avoid his E Q R combo, he gets bursted and dies Jax cannot even get close to a Gnar, I have played vs a lot of Gnars..the bad ones I can stomp easily but a good Gnar is impossible to beat as Jax. Yes he can "survive" vs Riven and Fiora before 6 but he will get pushed under the tower or get zoned from the creeps. "Tryndamere will only deal damage from his spinning slash" is honestly nonsense, most Trynda players don't even max that. His damage comes from his auto attacks which Jax CAN dodge for 2 seconds but for 90 mana and a 16 second cooldown. Jax doesn't primarily deal magic damage, even with his W and ult most of his damage is physical, mocking shout helps alot vs Jax but its not the reason Tryndamere wins and as Jax you should max E in that matchup.

Yes he would beat Teemo, Reksai and Tahm Kench are not toplaners and Teemo is rarely played because he is very weak too.

MaizeCraze1 votes

At level 6 with 3 points in W, Q + W AA that procs ult does 250 physical damage with 10 bonus AD and 249 magic damage with 30 AP before resistances. As I said above, that is a pretty considerable amount of magic damage.

Wukong at level 6 with a brutalizer, 10 AD from runes and 3 points in E will deal roughly 334 damage. Wukong's burst is on a 7.2 second CD, Jax's is on a 10 second CD. If I scale wukong's burst to ten seconds, it would be roughly 464 damage per 10 seconds. Assuming Wukong doesn't yet have bonus armor or MR (other than passive, runes, and masteries), Jax does more damage. Wukong clearly outbursts Jax with his ult, but that has a 2 minute cooldown and Jax could possibly Q or flash out, stun and reduce damage with E, and/or activate ult for 35 additional armor.

Renekton falls off slightly late game while Jax becomes a hypercarry.

Jax can get close to Gnar when Mini Gnar attempts to last hit friendly caster minions or is Mega.

one combo on Tryndamere will deal about 350 damage after resistances (assuming Trynd has 30-35 armor). If Trynd doesn't have lifesteal, he will be forced to use his fury on healing rather than offense. Not to mention Jax straight up outdamages Tryndamere in a duel when Trynd has more than 1 HP.

I would also like to add Maokai to my list.

Atik L Yar1 votes

Jax still beats Xin. If he holds out until he has a couple items, he can do pretty well against Lee Sin. He can also still bully the hell out of Nasus.

The Bíg Ticket2 votes

He gets outdamaged hard early by Lee and Xin. All he can do is farm.

Nasus is actually a counter to Jax, you don't wanna pick Jax into him.

Spicy Rice1 votes

Jax is supposed to farm. He is a mid/late game champ. There's a reason Jax is considered full build (jokingly) once he gets a Bork and triforce

Dedrius1 votes

He stomps Aatrox, he never beat riven, and trynd is a skill matchup

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

He doesn't stomp Aatrox unless the Aatrox is retarded and tries to have an extended duel with him but he can easily disengage Jax'E and sustain aswell as poking from range. Riven used to get raped by Jax before the hp nerfs. Tryndamere is a skill matchup I agree, with advantages for Trynda early but Jax used to roll over him.

Spicy Rice1 votes

How aren't you beating riven? Even with the hp nerds, as long as you duel her at level 1/2, you should win. Levels 4 5 and 6 are rivers power spikes, but level 6 Jax with a phage and boots with a flask should beat a level 6 riven

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Again you have no clue what you are talking about...Jax wins level 1 against her cause of his E, but thats all. Riven will completely stomp him and she can easily avoid his E too. You are not gonna beat a Riven with Brutalizer only with Phage and Flask, sorry. Also Flask is a terrible start item on Jax, it makes him even weaker. You are much better off starting Dorans Blade and pots, also helps you doing the raptors faster. I get that the Riven's in Silver/Bronze don't know how to play that champ but there is no way Jax beats Riven if the Riven is any good.

Spicy Rice1 votes

The whole point of the phage and flask is to play gurellia warfare with the riven. Run in, auto w, and run out. If she try's to chase/engage, activate e. The point is to poke her down while farming yourself.

Phage gives a move speed boost, extra hp, and some damage and flask helps sustain your mana uasge

Dedrius1 votes

Jax out trades Aatrox, his E counters Aatrox W, and his damage outscales Aatrox. The only way Aatrox can do anything is if he maxes E and lands all his poke.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

He outtrades him if Aatrox lets him duel him...but why would any decent Aatrox do that? Of course he will max E vs Jax.

Dedrius1 votes

Its not very easy to play Aatrox in a lane where you are afraid to be engaged on through the whole lane, even if he hits 50% of his skill shots he will have a hard time keeping up in farm with Jax and will easily get outscaled.

Baby Ghoul1 votes

He counters a lot of melee carries up top.

However you need to take a closer look at that statement. Jax has a weaker early game compared to most of them. He has counter strike, but it's on a long cool down. He's pretty open to getting cheese killed early. These champions also tend to snowball because of their strong early games, so if they get fed a little bit or are able to farm comfortably, then post 6 Jax isn't going to be as oppressive to them. He's very hard on them if he makes to that point just fine, and they haven't been able to do anything significant in lane.

Most of those match ups you should be able to play comfortably if you are an experienced Jax player. You won't win them all because it's pretty even for a while, but you shouldn't lose very many. I've won against a lot of Jax players, but I've also been beaten hard by a few a couple times due to dumb mistakes or them just being more skilled at their champion. That's how it goes for the majority of top lane matchups. It really depends on the skill level of each player, and how many mistakes they've made.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Yes he starts winning nearly all melee matchups once he hits level 11 and hasn't fallen behind (except Nasus) but before that he gets bullied hard. Assuming both players are of equal skill of course.
