Why do 1st and 2nd pick not get bans? These are the most dangerous picks.

1st and 2nd pick are the most likely to get countered and yet they don't get bans. It would have made sense to not give 1st and 2nd pick bans in the old pick system because they were able to pick the champion and role they wanted, but in the new draft mode there is no strategic advantage to 1st and 2nd pick.

Last pick in draft mode is the best you could ask for. You have no competition for your role in draft and you get to counterpick enemies or be safe from being counterpicked. Draft mode should give bans to first 3 picks if not all 5 teammates on each side given the large champion pool we now have.

EDIT: I guess I have to add a disclaimer because someone has already completely misinterpreted what I said. I am comparing the new dynamic queue to the old system. Since you are given your role before you even join the champion select, you do not have the advantage of being able to choose your role.

100% agreed and I have often wondered the same. Role is chosen before draft so there is no more "claiming" your role via first / 2nd pick. 1st and 2nd pick are now bad picks because a top / mid having to 1st pick is almost always going to get countered.

you'll just have to actually talk to your team mates

The idea was to give the bans to the last 3 while the 1st can secure champs for your team. That way everyone can have an active part in champ select beside just picking a champ for themselves.

That was the idea of course. But in reality it rarely happens with solo players. I rarely see 1st pick say, "Oh,last pick wants Ekko & Ekko is open. Let me grabbed that for him. That would also give myself a chance to counterpick." Let's say 1st pick was mid in this scenario. I rarely see players take the initiative & pick a champ for a teammate. Usually, the teammate have to specifically ask for someone to pick their champ early.

Of course, some players can be assholes when picking a champ for someone else. I recall reading a thread where the Support was asking for X champ, but was given Y champ instead because their teammate made the decision that it was "better", even though the Support mentioned how they weren't good with Y champ. So, you can't trust every player to not be a dick when picking a champ for you.

Anyway back to the main topic, the reason the 1st 2 players don't get bans is to give them incentive to pick champs for their teammates. But in reality, this likely just happens with Premades.

The reason why the last three players get bans is an afk check. The first two picks are going to be picking earlier, thus they have a reason to stay and watch the screen.

Last pick having bans is to prevent people getting up and going to the bathroom or disconnecting or some other bs and not having the game realize until the full team comp has been declared to both teams.

It's an effective system that has reduced afks from game start considerably. First and second pick can suck it up.

I disagree, in league of broken champions many champions don't have counters, or the counters are extremely obscure and only sub 45% win rate champions. 6 bans is not enough to ban out all truely broken champions with no counters anyways.

The only way first or second pick is at a disadvantage is that their teammates are retarded and don't ban a broken champion, then they either have to pick the broken champion that they don't play, or play what they know and risk automatically losing due to giving the opponent the broken picks.

There aren't bans in blind pick, anyway? The idea is that you communicate with your teammates to make decisive bans that benefit the entire team. The advantage to being an early pick is you are almost guaranteed to get who you want. Or say you're first pick mid, you can grab a popular JG for your JG who is 3rd pick and trade with them. They have the tools that what you are complaining about is largely irrelevant if your team actually wants to work together. I know in solo que it doesn't work that well, but this game really is geared towards playing with a team these days. Banning doesn't have that much of a point except for banning hard counters if you aren't playing in competitive tournaments like MSI and etc. They ban power picks who they know their enemy plays. In regular play, you have no idea who your enemy is, much less who they play.

i think the reasoning behind it is that while it's easier to get countered first and second pick are allowed to make "power picks" or at least theoretically decide how there team is playing. As the first or second pick they can secure the more powerful champions in the meta for themselves or to pass to teamates. Also they are pretty much deciding how your team is playing; if they choose twitch your team needs champions that can protect him while he Sprays and Prays the enemy team down or if Sejuani is chosen you need a team that can capitalize on her long range initiations. However that's just in theory, in practically no very few people take this into account when picking especially at lower ranks so it's mostly just a possibility.

Bans are no longer about counter picking. Bans in the current times are 100% used for banning out strong picks that your team won't be using. There is no banning room for people who pick a champion but can't handle getting counter picked. Even if they still want to do it you can always champion trade with someone to potentially avoid counterpicking.

Because in LCS these picks are dedicated to picking the most OP shit, nvm that that isn't how it works in DQ where people simply pick the champion they are either most proficient with or feel are safest to pick early just to get instacountered and fucked regardless, this game has needed 5 bans per side for too damn long.
