Buffs and Bugs 8.19, analysis from a Low Elo casual player
Hi! FailureOfAPerson here, and I'm going to see if I can start a patch by patch analysis from my humble Gold V view, and get good healthy discussion going.
I am aware that these buffs are tailored towards Worlds, and they will "improve" worlds gameplay. I don't care, and I'll be focusing on the Solo Quene impacts instead, with some ideas about what might be powerful and what might not be.
When I look at Bugfixes, I'll only note the ones that impacted gameplay significantly.
When I look at Bugs, they will primarily be NA based.
Let's look at some of the champion changes in Riot's patch notes first. I have listed them based on champion in the order that I think will impact the game the most.
Khazix buff. The one with the most attention on the boards appears to be Kha'Zix's buff. The Rioters were right that it "Will reward clever play", but it's unnecessary, because they don't need to be rewarded any more than they already are being rewarded. While I concede I might be wrong, I don't think this was a good buff. At the very least this buff was too much, by doubling the AD ratio on his passive.
Pyke's buff. the fuc. THIS IS THE WORST BUFF ON THIS PATCH LIST. Increasing the execute by 50 HP is INSANE, and NOT NEEDED AT ALL. Then again the buff is meant mainly for high elo players dancing out of his ults so idk, because where I play, a Pyke misses his ult on a champ without flash like 1/10th of the time.
Tahm Kench Nerf. the fuc. Literally 0 sense. 70 HP off of level 1. That kind of nerf is MASSIVE, on an already gutted champion. I only put this so high up because it'll dent like 60% of his viability, but his viability is already really low so i guess a case could be made that this won't impact the game much.
Darius buff. While Darius' buff may have merit in a Tank-centralized meta, Darius isn't exactly 100% in need of a buff. If you'll notice, Tanks are being shunned in favor of Bruisers like Irelia, who simply do more than tanks. Not the worst buff, but still not a good one imo.
Fiora buff+Bugfix. Bugfix is great news, and the small buff to Fiora's early game is, while not SORELY needed, helpful to make sure Fiora doesn't become snowball fodder.
Kog'Maw buff. This is a healthy buff, and is indeed needed for Kog'Maw players.
Nunu and Willump buff. The AP buffs are 1. insane, and 2. unnecessary especially since Tank Nunu builds are already doing well, and buffing AP ratios might buff Tank builds as well by either enhancing current built items, or changing the build path to make it even stronger.
Jarvan IV buff. I think it'll be fine. It's not a buff to his ability to cc and assassinate/tank late game, and it's good to make sure he's relevant early game. Jarvan maybe reaches that late game stage 1/5 times, and it feels awful to play against, but it also probably feels awful when you don't ever reach that stage.
Elise buff. This is a healthy buff, and I'm surprised that Elise out of all champions is being buffed for Worlds, but Elise really needs that buff because she's getting stepped on before she can scurry away way too often.
Janna buff. While this is good for the way I play Janna, which is to level up W first and poke down enemies, it's bad news for people playing against Janna because not only do her Ws hurt, going into her AA range almost always means you'll either have to commit to a skirmish or lose a trade, because 1 W + AA by Janna at any level will likely be a higher dps than any ADC in the early game, and the only counter to that is to have trusty ol Leona come in and E Janna through all the minions the queen of the wind likely hides behind. In the end, I find this buff not gamebreaking, but also not needed.
Thresh buff. JFC finally. The only players that play Thresh rn are Thresh onetricks that could have gotten to Diamond if they mained Kaisa with the same devotion as Thresh. Thresh's impact on a game is just so low for so many players, so buffing him will both 1. make him actually useable, and 2. make him actually viable. Missing a hook is so punishing that players who aren't one tricks just can't bother with using him.
Next, let's look at some THE ONLY item changes.
Liandry's. .5% per second means an overall buff of 2% max health in exchange for 5 AP. At a glance, this looks like a good way to give Liandry's its own niche as a DoT AP item that helps in sustained teamfights, but there's just this tiny little problem.
getting no nerfs in compensation for this INSANE Liandry's buff makes me very confused, because now Brand's going to hit you for 3 seconds longer thanks to Blaze, which means an additional 6% of your max health compared to other champions.
Bugs that haven't been addressed that are pressing concerns will now be addressed here in hopes of having them addressed.
Diana. https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/bug-report/xne25l8w-3-months-later-please-fix-dianas-q-and-e-bugs-not-just-dark-waters-fps-drop-bug
This explains it better than I can because I don't actually play Diana, I just know she exists. I think she exists.
Zyra's plants' shitty AI. I've noticed this myself, and often wondered why the plants didn't bother attacking me.
Nunu's W being visible when Nunu is on the RED team.
That's all for 8.19!

EDIT I added champion and item icons for clarity's sake because scouring huge paragraphs of info can be hard to navigate through.
