Runes are unneeded and shouldn't be in the game

They hinder Masteries from being cool. They serve the same purpose as Masteries too. Removing Runes also make it easier to learn the game for a new player. So instead of learning both runes and Masteries; they just have to learn Runes. I think having Masteries be able to be something cool would be much better for the game and a good direction to take, and you don't have to grind IP for Runes and Rune Pages any longer, which was a pain for many players.

To address the people who have Runes and have bought Rune Pages with RP. You could give them a mystery skin for each one they bought with RP. Give IP Boosts for the runes (1 per rune owned?)

Now after Runes are gone you could make more Masteries and give out possible more Mastery points to build a nice diverse page depending on the Champion you are playing.

Removing runes would collectively fuck certain champions when it comes to doing specific things. You can't even clear the jungle without runes in today's League of Legends, tanks who need extra attack speed to farm in top lane wouldn't be able to anymore, some mages who rely on magic pen wouldn't be able to damage tanky champions early on. Runes are important. I'm pretty sure you're just salty that you have to invest alot of IP to get rune pages and the perfect runes. Just save up, I've got 7

I have all the Rune Pages I want.

I'm saying they could buff Masteries to do what Runes do, but this will allow Masteries to be a lot better. This also allows a lot more adjustment to Masteries without breaking them due to Runes existing.

I fear that if Masteries become too meaningful, the game might stop being about skill, and start revolving around which player had the better runes and masteries. You can play around anybody's runes and masteries right now, but I don't know about these changes

Well at the moment it sometimes depends on who you play as to how much skill it takes. Also the game is RNG heavy and that alone can win or lose games...

Not really, you take out Runes and put power into Masteries to even it out, but now you can have more things to do with Masteries.

Masteries would have to become complex and far-reaching to make up for the loss in power that taking runes would deal to champions

Not really. They could add more points and then make some basic ones have more points.

Why fix what isn't broke?

Why not improve upon something that can be be improved on?

The current runes system is ridiculously messed up. It's filled with trap options (like entire tiers of runes that the general consensus deems detrimental to an account to purchase), arbitrary prices differences, and unnecessary power gating (how does someone new to the game learn jungling when many junglers need specialized tier 3 runes in order to survive just the jungle camps?).

I agree that they need to be cleaned up as far as pricing goes, and that all of the trap runes need to be removed, but I don't see why the tier 3 ones need to be removed

You forget the Terribad runes that are horribly inefficient like any Offensive Scaling Runes or stuff like flat AP reds.

If Runes got reworked I think a 3 Rune System would be good: an Offensive Glyph, a Defensive Seal, a Utility Quintessence.

i would agree except for the fact that i stack mag pen and deal very close to true damage with sona as soon as i finish boots. so i win most of my lanes due to runes

If your problem with the runes is the cost, wouldn't it make more sense to remove the cost of the runes instead of the actual runes?

I fail to see how removing runes and then making people earn more mastery points and have new masteries to make up for runes changes anything. if you need 30 AS to work the jungle and you lose 30 AS in runes but pick it up in masteries, what is the difference? If anything it would make things worse as you would spend an extra 20 levels getting points for your champ instead of completing it at level 30 like it is now. You might not have runes for every champ, but you can get some generic ones and then more specific for your favorites. On another point you talk about your solution getting rid of runes that aren't usually great, but then you would have more of the crap that we have now with picking up masteries we don't want just to reach a different mastery tier at the bottom.

I agree with the point about the jungle being unaccessable and unlearnable by new players. It was that way before and when the season 5 changes went in I was really upset about it because of this. There are few champs who could actually pull off jungling without lvl 30 masteries and special runes. But if they had to use masteries only to be able to clear jungle, they would have to pick all the jungle masteries first and then anything that might help them gank or try to keep up with lane champs.

If they make more unique masteries to work with the jungle, you won't need to worry about that 30AS. It won't just be more stats in the masteries.

Masteries are champion dependent, runes are matchup dependent. If you have multiple rune pages you want to pick the best one for you lane matchups, whether it be your AD vs AP matchup or youro AD vs AD matchup. Masteries are more oriented to fix your personal champions needs, do they need defence, are they a tank, do they need tenacity, or more penn? While runes are used for specific type matchups. Other than the teirs 1's and 2's runes are in a really good spot as far as matchups go. The prices dont make much sense, but if price is the issue, argue the price, not the runes themselves.
