Relic Shield line passive feels weak mid- to late-game

I play tank/utility Braum support a lot and I find that once the team groups up to push a lane, it is almost impossible for me to execute a minion with Relic Shield or anything that builds from it, as the damage-dealing champs eat up a wave before I can get three or four hits in. This is annoying from both a healing point of view and a gold one, as it is almost impossible to generate gold with the item mid- to late-game when I'm with my team. (Unlike Spellthief's Edge and Ancient Coin, which give me gold for attacking champs [I do that all the time in teamfights, heh] and existing, basically.)

Do other folks agree that Relic Shield could maybe use a buff, even if it's just +2 gold/5 like the other support items? Should I be building better (I currently don't build any damage items, opting for tankiness and utility instead)? Do I just need better runes (still working towards completed rune pages, as I only started caring last month)? Do I simply need to last hit better?

Tips or support appreciated. Thanks people!

When you're playing any non-support role, you're just going to sell your starter item as soon as you run out of space. They aren't designed to bring impact beyond the laning phase. Just because support start items CAN be built into other items doesn't necessarily mean it's in your best interest to do so.

What if I am playing a support role, which I mostly do? (Why would you even build a Relic Shield on a champ laning alone? You can't even proc its passive without an ally present.) And what are your thoughts on the usefulness of the active on Face of the Mountain?

The point of that paragraph was really to say, why not just sell it like everyone else? If you don't feel it's bringing you enough utility late game, sell and buy something better.

It's not so much about the utility as the gold. IMO there is no support gold item that also provides tanky stats that works well past early game. The reason I'd buy an Ancient Coin is so that I can continue to score gold without having to take any from my teammates, but mana regen and a speed boost is less useful on a tank than bonus health and a bigass HP-scaling shield.

Also I'd like to know if there is some way I should be using it so that it brings more utility/gold; if it's the item that's broken (in which case it should be fixed) or me (in which case I'd love tips for using it more effectively).
