Are "Eternals" still a thing?

The blue essence emporium has just opened up and I remember them mentioning that the basic "Eternals" that track champion stats would be available through the emporium.

There is an added progression data in the champion collection and I notice that a spot on the hub in game has a spot for Eternals, but they haven't shown up anywhere that I'm aware of.

Did I miss some news?

God i hope not, that was just a blatant greedy money grab tactic, that somehow in their infinite wisdom riot thought would be a good idea to implement during the whole lootbox-microtransaction crisis.
