Riot Please help Varus
Honestly the biggest problem that I've noticed about Varus is the CD's of his abilities early as well as the Damage spikes and reliability of them.
I'm new to the champ for sure but he plays so clunky early and he doesn't really ever prioritize items with CDR so that clunky damage rotation which sure CAN be good once every 20secs or whatever, it's just not really able to do much early.
So because the E and Q have such long CDs early it means that Varus can't really "trade" early, and i use that in quotes because after the minor buff to his AD it appears maybe that's what Riot was trying to help and honestly, short of giving him a massive AD buff (+4 to base early for example) he won't ever feel great early or mid because he has such a punishing Cd's it means if you are going to be trying to Team fight you almost always have to be leading with a R and using that as your main source to actually do damage and that's actually a pretty big flaw as well because pre-6 that means you (once again) cannot trade, also that means you won't really ever be able push lane effectively if need be because your abilities are very costly as well as long CD's so you almost always need to rely on AA and passive procs for wave management rather than abilities..
This is just a tremendous HEADACHE! So by design he will almost always be pushed in, almost always be able to be all-in'd and pre-6 almost always have 0 kill threat as well. That's the recipe for a weak Champ
The real suggestion i have is about either Lowering his CD's to E and Q AS WELL AS (yes all 1 fix) lowering the base Mana costs to all of his abilities. Q needs to be significantly lowered early as well as E, considering Varus strength is Range why limit that so much so early? Considering he doesn't out scale many ADCs it doesn't really make too much sense to have his CDs be so much longer than Most others.
I've looked at Kai'sa as a polar opposite of Varus in every way, yes she does more as well as scaling better with better everything and it all starts with her base CDs on abilities, now should Varus have abilities as low as her's at lv 1? Well i could in theory make a argument for it considering she is a hyper scaling AD it is a bit weird for her to have such a strong spike early and her kit in theory is actually more similar to Varus then most other AD's just sped up and closer.
I would say reducing the base CD and Mana Cost of his abilities is a good place to start, NOT buffing his AD (although if you do it needs to be A LOT, almost Draven Caliber imo to make it worth).
Give Varus more access to his abilities reduce the cost and let him actually do something early since so much of the game is built on leads you get from early lane phase.
Even if you just Reduced the Mana and CD to JUST Q OR E (it doesn't have to be both) you give him a better chance at laning without being too safe but also not some chump like he is now.
Just by reducing the CD and Cost of the Q you let Varus become a better champ in all stages of the game, more consistent early and also still skill expressive.
Also you could just make him walk slower as well if you were to reduce CD of Q rather than nerfing his DMG just nerf his mobility.
My only other suggestion Make the E Bigger, This may in theory seem silly but because Varus is such a mismatch of abilities and identity the only other thing that makes sense is to make the actual Zone Bigger, that means you have a choice to make, either use that E for Wave clear or use it as your main disengage early, the CD on it is SO long that it's one of those things that just doesn't really reward you for using it no i don't count the Blight stacks because that is still conditional on your Q being up and i've already expressed that Q CD is just too long and too expensive.
I'd compare his E to Ashe Volley which her Zone is Huge and Moves and although it doesn't reduce healing or anything it provides a more reliable and constant way to push lane/harass as well as a Disengage.
I can write more about this but honestly of the few ADC's I enjoy playing I would say Varus is one of maybe 2 and his playstyle is just so slow tho and with a few tweaks it could be much more smooth overall
