@Meddler Black Cleaver internal cooldown

4 months ago you were testing to add black cleaver an internal cooldown link TLDR: "Testing an internal cooldown on how quickly you can add stacks to an opponent (0.5s at present). Aiming to preserve its impact for slow/regular speed stackers, while making it less dominant on those with sufficiently split up physical damage it gets stacked almost instantly."

Later on (link )) you said "Black Cleaver change for example hasn't tested as originally hoped so that's likely gone."

Likely, how much likely? In the next patch link, nothing is mentioned about Black Cleaver so this supposedly means that it didn't ship in right?

Well, it didn't. Not with a 0.5 sec cd. But it did with a very short cd since every champ that can attack multiple times in an istant will only proc it once. Illaoi's Tentacles and Zed's Q with the shadows are just an example. video video 2

Is this intended (was it like this before the tests?), or did you ship something strange into live?

A while back they made it so it only applies once from attacks that have an extra instance of physical damage like when J4's passive is applied or when you attack with BotRK. I'm not sure how that's properly implemented so that it doesn't include multiple different abilities hitting at the same time. So maybe that's really how it's implemented. It's probably implemented as a limit of 1 stack per frame.

i've read every post made in the last 2 years that had something to do with black cleaver. (that's how i got the links above and below).

The first one i think was about the ones about shaco and mf link TLDR: "Miss Fortune’s Passive - Love Tap and Shaco’s Passive - Backstab no longer apply extra stacks of Black Cleaver’s armor shred"

The next one was about graves link
TLDR: "Fixed a bug where an enemy hit with multiple shells from Graves’s basic attacks only applied a single stack of Black Cleaver" So i don't think it's 1 stack per frame since it is intended for graves to stack it 4+ times with one basic attack.

Then came 2 for Bork (no idea why that) link and link TLDR: "Blade of the Ruined King's on-hit effect no longer applies a stack of The Black Cleaver" "Blade of the Ruined King no longer causes Black Cleaver to apply two stacks per basic attack"

What these have in common is about extra stacks on bonus damage from basic attacks. That's why they got fixed. Illaoi attacks with tentacles, zed with shurikens. They're both abilities, and i'm sure there're other examples out there

Just as a programmer I think the most likely way it's implemented is 1 stack per frame, and your tests add evidence that it is.

I don't think they planned the onhit system for an item like BC so they didn't have a way to cleanly implement it like they wanted. They would need work from the systems programmers (maybe a lot of work depending on how spaghetti the code is) to add the proper features to implement it exactly as stated.

Well, did you read my Graves example? He can add 4 stacks per frame
