Thornmail doesn't really feel "thorny" anymore.

The most reflective damage I've gotten with it is about 40 per hit, not even factoring in the magic resist an enemy champion has. You also have the 15% auto attack slow whenever someone hits, which pretty much defeats the whole purpose of reflecting damage onto a player, when they just attack you slower. Like, I love the whole idea on afflicting someone with grievous wounds when they attack you, but I just feel like we need a whole new item for that, it doesn't fit in with Thornmail at all. Thornmail was designed to be an item that punished range auto attackers. Yes, you can argue that it does with the GW, it just doesn't fit with the item. You're trying to combine 3 items into one and it just looks bad.

It's not supposed to feel thorny anymore, it's supposed to be a PITA for auto attacking champs.

Why not make a whole new item instead of reworking Thornmail all together then?

Because a defensive item that inflicts GW that is not thornmail is harder to imagine than thornmail as it is now, I suppose. I mean it still does all of the old jobs of thornmail, it just lost damage for GW and the cold steel passive and traded in some armor for some HP.

LOST some damage.. it lost almost all its damage.. sunfire cape now does more damage. Bramble vest is great for 900g as it gives you everything worth getting in the full Thornmail for cheap... No point spending 2000g to upgrade for an extra 250 health 40 armor and -15 attack speed.
