Ok, can we disable people playing champions they've never played before in ranked?

Competitiveness =/= unfamiliarity with a champion.

are you suggesting don't let them play ranked until they at least hit mastery 5 on the champ? I mean I do get your frustration but people are free to do as they please.

Yes, I feel like you must be mastery 5 on the champion before bringing them into ranked, great suggestion.

What does a one trick pony do then? With that mentality, you now need at least 16 champions with mastery 5.

Edit: What about me? I just looked it up and I only have 13 champions with mastery 5+ after 4.5 years of playing.

That system would be saying that I am not worthy of playing ranked even though I have 65% win rate in ranked. It wouldn't at all be fair to people who dedicate themselves to a select few champions or people with less play time. You have over twice as many total mastery points as I do.

The only f.e. I know of is the Fundamentals of Engineering exam so that sentence makes no sense to me.

Riot requires you to have 16 champions before you can play draft pick because in the off chance that every champion you own gets picked or banned and you are last pick you could be unable to pick anything. If they ever introduced a system that you need mastery 5 to participate in ranked, you would need at least 16 champions with mastery 5. This will always be true because champions aren't restricted to rolls. If you only play support and top lane you are immune to autofill. This doesn't mean that you only need a few of each position though because you can take a support or a top laner at any position.

The counter argument to needing a certain mastery level to lock in a champion is trading. Do I really need to crank out however many games with every Champion I own on the off chance someone wants me to pick that champion for them?

Regardless of what someone would see as skilled with a player with any given champion, I do agree that first timing a champion in ranked is typically a bad idea. I almost never see it go right, and I've only ever had to do it once to counter a particular champion. Somehow won that game, but it was by dumb luck that I even managed to get an upper hand against the champion I was laning against.

But that would stop the FOTM players from thinking they can play a champion but then feeding!!!!!

Maybe you should be worrying more about smurfs who intentionally throw games to stay at low mmr and low elo, amplifying proverbial elo hell.

At least someone trying a new champion is actually trying to win.

That would mean people couldn't secure champs for teammates anymore. It would be a big hit to Ranked to reduce the available champs to most people by what is most likely more than half. It would also cut down on trashuos...but thatWAIT I'm getting off topic! What about champs with a low skillcap like MasterYi and Warwick ? Or Garen ? What if someone gets autofilled to support (A trash mechanic in my opinion, but it's in the game, so it's relevant) and doesn't have any supports above Mastery 3? They would do even worse than they already would!

This idea is WONDERFUL in theory, but in practice...not so much.

If you never complain about how people "don't take into consideration what the team needs".

And hey, if someone only has Teemo mastery 5 and was autofilled Top, you know what has to be done.

I'd personally just like to see a rule implimented in which you need to have gotten an S- or higher 1 time on a character before bringing it into ranked. If you can't have a high-tier game on a character (even through sheer luck), then you have no business pulling it out in a competitive environment.

This would suck for regions without normal draft. Please don't make me play blind pick

this has been asked many times since ranked was first released.

it will never change.

This has been suggested before and downvoted by the trolls claiming it to be unfair.

probably wound not turn out well. most tanks and some other champions are piss easy to not feed on and do somewhat well on. but something like this would be nice to prevent someone from deciding to play azir for the first time in ranked

i don't have mastery 7 on lissandra but i went gold 4 with her on my main account .. what's your point?

grug1 votes

can't, it would affect the niche market of people purely buying skins to test them out in ranked.

hhaavviikk1 votes

or even just have a restriction of having played X amount of normal games, riot halved xp required to reach lvl 30, add in the fact you can play co-op vs ai till 30 and then go ranked and it's clear this system is terrible, the having to own X champions isn't even a limiter if you just buy all the 450 IP champions, only time it's a limiter is if you only buy 6300 IP champions

Even though it is harsh, i actually couldn't agree more with you. Roughly around 80% of my losses are from a top or mid who has never played or has 1 game with their champ. Let me remind you: i am plat 3. This isn't bronze shit elo we are talking about. Already yesterday, I lost 3 times due to these team-mates. 1st game: a yi main who plays gnar for the first time. 2nd game: a feeding lethality garen with ignite who has played only 1 game as garen in normals and lost that too. 3rd game: a ranked newbie who mains xerath decides to play trynd for the first time against a SHEN. etc. So i agree that SOMETHING needs to happen. Maybe to mastery lvl 5 is a little too harsh, but there should be a certain threshold of games that should be reached in normals before people can just play whatever they want in ranked.

Would make sense that a champion used for ranked would be unlocked if said player had to play (X) amount of games with that champion in normals 5v5 or 3v3 (not ARAM or other "fun" games modes)
