@riot why not make flash a basic spell everyone has

We could turn flash into a basic ability like the recall I recently found that recall didnt exist way back in the day (like during alpha), and instead it was an item called the blue pill. it cost 600 gold, and took an item slot. people complained it was too expensive for how necessary it was, so it was made into a summoner spell like flash and ignite is today. it was considered mandatory still so riot made it into a basic ability everyone has. why not do this for flash as well, since it is considered mandatory on almost everyone?

edit: i went here http://www.lolking.net/charts?region=all&league=ranked&type=spell-popularity and found that flash is on about 96% of champions (48% of spells picked are flash, with the factor of there being 2 spells (since you cant pick flash twice) means 96% pick rate

If you make flash baseline, champions who prefer another set of summoners

Say Shaco (Ignite/Smite or Exhaust/Smite) or Hecarim (Teleport/Ghost/Ignite) or Olaf (Ghost/Teleport/Ignite)

are nerfed.

If you make it so you can still take 2 summoners and just get flash "as an extra", you insanely buff classes that benefit from Heal/Cleanse/Barrier since those are easier to take now without hampering your combat effectiveness.

i would look at it from the other angle, that flash is almost required right now, and that limits players to basically one summoner spell right now other than the champs you mentioned, but they can also benifit from flash

I remember a few people saying that it would make some champions a tad too strong since they have an extra summoner slot to use, but then again; it will even the playing field.

Whether Riot chooses to make it a thing or not doesn't bother me any-who.

Key word is ALMOST

If there happens to be a champ that doesn't consider flash essential to their kit, that's an interesting little thing for the game that would then be removed.

every champion can use it and gain some benefit. champs like lee sin or kassadin it becomes semi redundant with how strong their mobility already is, but most champs dont have the mobility to equel the power of flash. its like saying tf ult make tp redundant, even tho tp is considered mandatory on tf.

None of that implies it is a good idea to make flash baseline.

Riot has addressed this question before. The main reason they won't do this is because if they make flash baseline and let people pick 2 other summoner spells, then it puts more of the total power each champion has into these general mechanics. It's not really desirable for summoner spells to be even more impactful to the game than they already are. It also allows players to cover more of their champion's weaknesses with summoner spells, which erodes the intended weaknesses of quite a few champions.

Recall was different because the game was better when it was made into a baseline ability. It sped up the game and made it more interesting while also getting rid of an annoying cost to a basic mechanic. Giving everyone a new summoner spell slot wouldn't do the same thing. There is a much, much higher cost to making more of a player's total power reliant on summoner spells. That has a lot of potential to make the game less interesting to play.

Basically, Riot thinks that summoner spells represent a pretty ideal percentage of a champion's power budget right now. Giving another slot would increase their percentage of a champion's power while also lessening the weaknesses of champions balanced around their weaknesses, which wouldn't be very fun.

A lot of the problem is that your OP didn't clearly state if you meant that one summoner spell would always be locked into flash and players could only choose one other summoner spell from the list, or if you meant that flash would have its own button and players would still have two summoner spell slots to decide upon.

Yeah, there's really no point in saying "hey you can get TWO summoner abilities!" despite it just being Flash and the most useful thing for your position and champion.

Well, maybe because than you could have 3 summoner spells maybe? It would be obnoxious and imbalanced as hell. Top laners for example would have TP every game...

Because the game is balanced around a power budget of 2 summoner spells. This game would be complete shit show if every adc could have heal and cleanse, every assassin could have ignite and exhaust, and every bruiser could have exhaust and ghost.
