Soraka ChallengerSaracha has joined the lobby.

Aww yeah! A support! :D Begins to type a short welcome.

Soraka ChallengerSaracha has left the lobby.

I didn't even get to say hi. D':

My life in teambuilder. ^

Partholonian29 votes

Whenever I try to play a squishy support in teambuilder, I leave if the team has 0 tanks. This is more common than you might think.

Both the team and I will be better off if they get a tank support instead.

Because "find another team" is not really dodging and doesn't apply the penalties of dodging, roles with really short queue times like support have the ability to decline bad comps.

Big Bang Bob3 votes

The sad part is, the support will be the first to come sometimes and still leave. D':

Gavran8 votes

If I'm the first one there why should I wait 5-10 minutes for a jungler/adc/top whatever is going to be slow this time? Don't like supports being in highest demand, play support. Get a friend who supports to queue with you.

Dorans Hat4 votes

You can't artificially create supply. Riot needs to incentivize it.

Gavran9 votes

No, Riot does not need to. If really fast queues and the ability to be picky with your teammates aren't incentive enough for you, that's your choice.

kunkudunk6 votes

Someone said it finally. It isn't riot's job to make people want to support especially since they didn't want team builder to enforce any type of meta if it can be avoided.

Borbland6 votes

Yeah, I do that too, because of many reasons:

  1. No tanks is stupid, no teamfights after 20 minutes, it's boring and so hard to win
  2. Strangely squichy toplaners and jungler flames more often then tanky ones. I guess it's the assassin effect.

I quit too when we have a full AD team, or most of the time when we have a Shaco (And when their nickname is something like XX_Proshaco2004_xX it doesnt help much :P)

Partholonian2 votes

People who come into the game (before it even starts) with the attitude I MUST GET ALL THE KILLS AND CARRY 4 NOOBS aren't going to pick tanks. They are, however, highly likely to be toxic, especially if they don't immediately get fed.

Tanks learn to respect and rely on their teammates, or they do a lot of dying 1v4 and 1v5. The role both promotes and demands teamwork, and that's reflected in the players who play it.

As a support main, i get my pick of the litter team-wise. I tend to avoid the empty teams because generally they take the longest(and the more people that leave the longer it takes to get players.) my best advice would be to fill undesired roles and make sure your team is setup correctly. I've left plenty of teams simply because they had double 'any role' bot lanes where it would have been silly to run something like raka/taric. Sometimes I also dodge the teams because my support pick isn't a good fit for the team, and I want to play the champion in the right conditions.

That's just being bad manners. I'm glad to wait 10 minutes , knowing that i get the role I want. Perhaps you should consider that :)

UPfreely14 votes

maybe, but why wait a half hour for a game when i can just skip ahead a game or 2 and get one in under 2mins?

Puri Puri Taric12 votes

so its bad manners to avoid to waste time i dont want to waste time on ? thanks can i have fries with that order ?

Meanie4012 votes

Are you going to pay me for the time I wait with your team?

No?

Then you don't control how I spend my time.

If you don't want to wait, feel free to support yourself.

Why should we? We have the option of making it easier on ourselves, you'd be a little derped in the head to not take it.

stochastic424 votes

That's nonsense, and not even good nonsense. It's not bad manners to leave a team for any reason in team builder. It's specifically designed as the only mode where you can dodge the team with absolutely no penalty. It is also designed in such a way that leaving an empty team almost always results in getting into game faster. If you are happy to wait 10 minutes, giver buddy.

ElJanitorFrank3 votes

If they have double "any role" bot lanes, then 99% of the time you're stuck in queue because you have to kick all of the ADCs that come through.

You should never dodge based on team composition, you aren't always going to get the pick you want, you need practice in bad conditions if you want to improve as a player.

StealWolverine8 votes

Its team builder. The queue where you get to pick your team if you want to wait long enough. That was basically the entire point. If you are in team builder you will ALWAYS get the pick you want. Depending on what that is though determines what your wait time is. and while to some extent bad condition play might help you improve, regular condition play will be much more beneficial.

ElJanitorFrank1 votes

Beneficial how? If you're looking for a first win, maybe. Otherwise, playing into a harder situation is much more beneficial to improving your skills, and is overall more beneficial in the long run.

The IP difference past your first win is pretty negligible.

Partholonian5 votes

If I'm going to play Soraka, joining a comp like Yasuo MasterYi Zed and... anyone, really, isn't going to teach me anything more than "excessively unbalanced comps suck" and "I need the team to have a frontline or I can't function".

And unlike ranked, I can't even react to the squishiness of my team by picking Leona instead.

Duke Anax4 votes

Hey I just won that game! Soraka Yasuo MasterYi Zed XinZhao

However I was Soraka Top (Xin and Yi bot) and i had enough AP to keep those goons alive.

StealWolverine5 votes

Some team comps are completely ridiculous and if you ended up with them it would basically be an auto loss anyways. They pop up so little that it is not worth practicing for. whereas in a more normal match up you could work on your skills. Braum Garen vs Caitlyn Morgana isnt a matchup that you are really gonna get anything out of. just gonna be steamrolled.

ElJanitorFrank1 votes

You missed my point. They said they dodge out of unfavorable match-ups, not meta breaking match-ups that don't make sense.

StealWolverine5 votes

Its never because unfavorable matchups, because you dont even know who the enemy team is going to be till it starts. and why shouldnt you be able to go with a team that meshes with who you are playing? when you are gonna be support in a draft mode do you instantly lock in your head who you are gonna pick? or do you maybe think a little a base it off of what your team and the enemy has picked? there are alot of situations that come up in tb that youd have to be dense to walk into in any draft mode.

Celeste Benal4 votes

The whole point of teambuilder is so you don't get a retarded comp. Dodging based on comp is one of the few legit reasons to click away.

MyCarIsADragon11 votes

supports have that luxury in team builder because nobody wants to go into team builder to learn support. people want to go in team builder with 'fun' champions.

P.S. : I've gotten the opportunity to play these champions as support due to the desperateness of the teambuilder lobby format Rengar TwistedFate Kennen Amumu Galio Shaco Teemo Singed

and then they proceed to rage because I have an unconventional pick in teambuilder when they checked yes smh

EDIT: I also managed to do the same with jungle such as doing Graves Galio Kennen with jungle, the same rules apply

Tulare8 votes

Shaco is the only one there that seems completely off to me. His fear traps just aren't that high utility. Galio is 100% legitimate support material. I've seen and/or played Twisted Fate, Kennen, and Teemo in the role with varying success. I can see where you're coming from with Rengar with his slow and excellent ability to trade. He makes it more of a kill lane in my opinion, though. Singed has a slow and the flip so I reckon he has support tools equal to Volibear, who is recognized in the role. Amumu has pretty amazing engage although his ability to protect and harass doesn't seem terribly suitable to the role.

Either way u look at them they are free wards with hard cc attached. Also i like to build him AP if i go support, so he has surprisingly large burst and poke.

Also at leven 1 you can give your jungle the greatest smite less leash and not even have to be there. or just go to lane with ally with more xp

Ha. Play support. There are ALWAYS teams available that only need support. :P

Duke Anax22 votes

Oddly enough when I'm playing Support, there is always a Jungler missing. When I play Jungler there is always a Support missing.

Meanie4024 votes

And in the odd 1% of the time neither is missing, you need an ADC.

Sometimes I like to pick an unorthodox support like Galio and wait for almost 3 mins for someone to accept then kick me out (not without some rude comments)

Then after 5 more times of dealing with that that, I go back and select Thresh, watch as the request keep piling up, enter a team, wait for everyone to hit ready, then LEAVE!!!

Yes I am Evil!!!

I only leave team builder teams if it's taking too long or if I dont like the team comp

AFK Push2 votes

I pretty much dodge If I join a lobby and there isn't a support or a jungler. I'm fine waiting for one or the other, but waiting for both is usually a lost cause.

Gavran1 votes

Speaking as a "support main", two points to make:

  1. F*** you I do what I want. Don't like me leaving your lobby because it makes you wait a long time, then play support or get a friend to. Conversely, thanks for never doing this, being able to find a full team with a relatively ideal comp in five minutes is pretty great, as is the desperation you guys get that lets me play basically whatever I want in the support role. Seriously, it's my favorite thing about team builder. Thanks.

  2. I don't always leave because you're not full, and sometimes I'll leave when you are full. Here's some of the things I look for so you can have less supports ditch you in the future.

  • No tanks on the team (including me, but unless I'm like Braum/Leona levels tanky I'll want at least a tanky bruiser too.)
  • Team is all one damage source. If you take an AD top, AD mid, and AD jungle, and I'm not playing a mage support that actually does damage (Zyra yes, Morgana no.)
  • Your shit's too weird/bad. Off-meta isn't what I'm talking about, solo lane / jungle Soraka is. No Vlad ADCs.
  • You have an Udyr jungling.
  • You are / have a bunch of sheep trying to play whatever they think the new fotm OP thing is.
  • You have a Kalista and I'm one of most non-tank supports. There are a few I'll roll with like Sona because it can set up a nice Crescendo, but most of the time nty. If I happen to be a tanky support I'm okay giving most Kalistas the benefit of the doubt though.
  • I don't like your name (basically only if it's something bad enough I'd report it) or you've been acting like an idiot in the lobby chat.

It's not a perfect list, and there are things I'm forgetting as well as not all of these being universal. But I'd say some of them are fairly universal, and if nothing else paying attention to your comp before the support shows up will help you in the future.

As an ADC main, I'll dodge on this one two. Since its EASY to find Tops & Mids, I'll leave if the comp is something like Shaco or Lee jg and assassins in both top and mid, because that comp is gonna get screwed once the team fights really get going. And that's assuming one (or more) of the assassins don't start whining "gg" either when they can't do anything because the other assassin is taking all the kills or because they died quickly early, or worst of all "gg, X is my counter".

Partholonian2 votes

I agree with most of that list, except the part about Udyr.

Kalista, though... Sometimes I have to remind myself that I control what direction I'm going to go after I get pulled in. I don't have to go straight for the biggest bunch of enemies, if I think that's going to lead to disaster (and maybe Kalista even knows that and was just trying to pull me out of a situation she thought would kill me otherwise).
