Dealing with Toxicity = Time
Couple weeks ago coworker and I had the day off, so we spent the day duo-queuing in ranked. Now for most of the morning and afternoon things were decent. No one was really toxic, no trolls, zero rage-quitting, and only the usual "bronze nonsense" (ignoring drag, tunnel-vision kill-chasing, etc.) but all in all we were winning pretty consistently. And then at some point it all went downhill... We started getting trolls who take "off-meta" champions for roles, people who complained in chat, threatening to feed and just straight AFK/leavers. And I was trying to figure out how the games just all of a sudden got so terrible, and coworker brings up a critical observation...
"Well you know school did let out about an hour ago right?"
... Seriously. THAT was it, THAT was the reason the games got terrible at that point. All our games were played while PUBLIC SCHOOLs WERE IN SESSION. During that time the people in queue are generally competent players and adults. It was only when school let out did the queue become infested with all the toxic/bad players. Now I was vaguely aware of this, but it wasn't until that day did I actually SEE evidence it happens.
So yeah if you really want to climb without being boosted your only best chance is to queue in at times when school is in and all the kids CAN'T play. But if you are smart you are also realizing colleges will start to end their spring semesters in about three weeks, and will snowball into public schools being out for the summer. Which would mean the queue will be plagued more or less all day and night.
In my book I would bank on the wee hours of the morning, 5am - 8am or so. This would potentially be the time all the kids will be asleep, during the summer that may be the only real time to get reasonable ranked games in. And even in terms of time zones the further west you are the more screwed you may be. Fortunately I am EST so there is more of a window, PST are probably borked because the kids waking up across NA there probably won't be an overlap.
Let's face it, Dynamic Queue is awful and Rito will continue to try and "improve" this nonsensical pile. And unless you are actually good enough to carry a full team this will probably be your only legit chance to climb. Of course I am not counting boosters, but as I posted prior the system will drag boosters down if they continue without relying on their "boostee".
Season 6 state of affairs is pretty bleak, but this is the only way I can think of to legit climb despite the garbage Dynamic Queue is.
