Riot's Notes on QSS & Mercurial changes in Patch 6.9

The QSS and Mercurial Scimitar active has two uses: cleansing crowd control (Amumu ult) and purging combat debuffs (Zed ult). These cases differ in that crowd control is setup, while combat debuffs are the payoffs to such setup. When you cleanse CC, the enemy needs to lock you down again to aggress on you, but that tends to be a pretty reasonable ask. By contrast, cleansing a combat debuff wipes the applicator's primary means of fighting you. So, those champs are pressured to snowball before their effects become meaningless, while their opponents are forced into buying QSS even if it's incredibly inefficient to do so.** This leads to destructive effects on game balance which we've left unanswered for too long. **With the understanding that there may be outliers we need to address, we're unshackling combat debuff champs from their quicksilver collars.

During this time, champions like Zed was finally able to have an ultimate that actually does stuff rather than being cleansed away.

Meanwhile, Mordekaiser on the other hand & still no updates on making a fix about it....

Mordekaiser's ultimate is classified as a suppression.

There's nothing to fix as being able to cleanse Realm of Death is fully intended.

Despite the fact that you can literally.....walk around the circle Morde created.

Are you free to interact with Summoner's Rift and the rest of your team?

You are suppressed in what actions you can take. It is the closest kind of already existing CC category. If you don't think it should be a suppression, Riot would just as easily classify it as some new kind of CC.

It is Crowd Control. "Being able to walk around" is not the sole determiner of what CC is.

Oh man, here we go again.

That you can cleanse Mordekaiser's R is absolutely intended and actually a necessary layer of counterplay.

Without the option to break it with QSS, Mordekaiser would become the ultimate objective control. Dragons and baron are not targetable for anyone in the death realm. So every time both teams are trying to contest these objectives, Mordekaiser could simply ult the enemy jungler before the objective gets low enough to smite.

This would effectively remove the enemy jungler from the battle, leaving his team without smite to contest. Handing over the objective to Mordekaiser's team, without very much the enemy team could do about it. If just one team has smite accessable, then the chance for this team to get the objective is heavily skewed in their favour.

But with QSS, the jungler has the option to build this item, break out of Mordekaiser's ultimate in this situation and continue to contest the objective with smite.

So overall, it's okay to literally eliminate 1 out of 4 abilities in Mordekaiser's kit. This literally went against the concept of what QSS's patch notes were mentioned in 6.9.

You talk about the counterplay it does, sure, but completely nothing about what makes his ult being in any way a "suppress".

The patch notes from 6.9 differentiates between 2 types of effects here: crowd control and combat debuffs. How I see it, Mordekaiser's ultimate is both, crowd control and combat debuff in a single spell.

The portion that you get banished into the death realm to 1v1 Mordekaiser, I would consider this a crowd control. I guess you disagree with this, but in fact, what this does is to forbid you to interact with anything in your environment except Mordekaiser. I would consider this a hefty restriction in your freedom of action. You are not allowed to interact with any ally or enemy except the guy who ulted you. Counting it as a form of CC seems fair in my eyes.

Then there is the stat stealing. It qualifies as a combat debuff in my opinion. It is decreasing all of the enemy stats by 10%, if that is not a debuff, I don't know what is. It also doubles as a combat buff for Mordekaiser here, since he gains the stolen stats.

QSS, as described in the patch notes you mentioned, removes CC, but won't remove combat debuffs. And this is exactly what it does with Mordekaiser's ult in my opinion. It removes the CC portion of the spell (letting the enemy escape the death realm), but Mordekaiser still keeps the stolen stats from his enemy, which is the combat debuff portion.

Oh counterplay, thats a terrible thing for boards favorites.

Is it that time of the day to complain about assassins and ask for buffs for a 80% ban rate champion at all elos yet again?
