From her looks and VO, Kai'Sa could be from Piltover and I'd believe it
She has a purple jetpack and sounds perfectly sane. Void? What Void? She sounds perfectly sane and looks perfectly human.

Swap her color pallet to bronze, brown, black, and cyan and I would believe it.
She sounds perfectly sane
Why wouldn't she?
looks perfectly human.
That's because she is. When she has her suit fully on, she looks much less like a human (mainly cause you can't see her face)
"Stranded for years"
Actually just found this amazing thread by Declovone that delves into why Kai'Sa's personality is likely the way it is: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/MYm9usno-why-isnt-she-cray-cray
It might help to answer some questions you have.
Agree to disagree. You can find any explanation for whatever Riot throws out. To me it simply looks like really bad design. It also doesn't answer all the other details that don't line up.
Ok... look at what contact with the void did to Kassadin.. he's purple now and seems to lack legs... and that's without even getting into his breathmask thing or vader-breathing. Then, look at ol' glowy-faced malzahar and his purple vomit ult and constant floating. Now realize that unlike the two of them who merely smelled the void wafting on the wind towards them... she was actually physically TRAPPED there. And from being trapped there for years and growing up in such a messed up alien enviorment she looks like... a model in full makeup wearing a cosplay catsuit with goofy little wings on it.
Seriously, what ARE those things? Either give her full wings or spines or something. They're so bulky and she's so slender that they make me laugh every time I see them. They don't look insect-like to me, despite that being the void's usual MO. They couldn't have given her some kind of insect-spines that come out her back? No fins or protrusions along her body at all? She has an idle animation where the suit flares out at on her legs a bit like it's breathing... why not more shit like that? Her suit looks like a generic catsuit when it should look alien and freaky. She legitimately has a line about people being afraid of her. No one would ever be afraid of her.
Perhaps it's the fault of the team demanding that she be attractive, but she fell WAY short of both of the cool concepts she could have had. She could have been a heavily corrupted void monster by now, playing up the alien horror the same way they play up Sion occasionally realizing he's an undead monster. OR they could have had her a mostly human still but utterly deranged by her time in such an alien enviorment. Instead she's neither... she's a generic hot chick in a silly suit and her VO is bland as mud. Who knew that being trapped in an alien hellscape left one unable to emote... except she CAN emote. She just does it like she's bored. A character rendered completely emotionless and unable to understand humans anymore would have (ironically) been a more interesting character than what we got here.
So yes... she was trapped in a place that drives people mad. She should be mad... or she should be as alien as Kha'zix, Cho'Gath and all the other void monsters. Not only does her being so weaksauce make her kinda lackluster, it really cripples the void as an ominous thing to be feared. It's cool, this chick survived there just fine... she doesn't even seem broken up about it. It was less "cosmic horror she barely escaped" and more "God, this bus is taking forever to get here and my phone is dead. SO BORED!".
I would recommend checking out that thread I linked to Poison Ivy below.
Fair enough, I suppose... but it still seems like excuses made to cover a lackluster job with nailing her as a character. I'd have expected her to have lines more along the lines of Omega Squad Teemo.... strained and frayed at the edges.
You can say it's deeper than it looks and claim she's so muted for a reason, but even IF that is the case, they did a poor job conveying that. There's no far-off quality to her like she's not all there. A completely emotionally dead character might have been fine, but she seems less that and more like someone not trying very hard.
Whether that be because the mood the team was trying to covey didn't land properly or not, it sure as hell doesn't come off like that post suggests to me. I can find really well-written and thought-out posts online about how Snape was actually the real chosen one or that Rey IS in fact, Luke's daughter... but it doesn't really amount to much if it doesn't show in the work... and it seems pretty obvious from how many people feel the same that people aren't feeling from her what that post suggests. I'm not saying you can't think that way about her if you like, but to me that seems like personal headcanon and nothing more. Either they half-assed it and... or they mishandled it and didn't convey what they were trying to properly. If they WERE going for "she's muted emotionally and had to be to survive" I feel like they could have suggested that better in her VO and demeanor.
Just my opinion though, of course.
