Played Jinx adc against enemy Jinx. Minute 40, bot Jinxes have Infinity, 2 Phantoms, Bloodthirster, Whisper and Zerks. I was soloing dragon and enemy Jinx appeared. I critted every time, the enemy Jinx didn't crit twice. Killed her, survived with half hp, took dragon. I said "Nice try" in all chat. Verbal abuse warning after game. Is saying "Nice try" offensive or not?

Not if you say "nice try, guy" in Dunkey's voice.

Most probably read too much into it and think "Nice try" means "LOLOL GIT REKT SCRUBNOOB I FUCKED YOUR MOTHER!!#@!!@#$##%#$@%#$!%#@$"

People are stupid. It's best to just not saying anything.

Realistically people can be offended by very simple things: someone tell me to calm down when I'm perfectly calm actually puts me in a state of irritation. This Jinx likely got flamed by her team for not securing dragon or killing you - so they reacted in the only way they could.

No "Nice Try" is not offensive, it is cocky and a form of teasing, but im sure you didnt mean it to offend them. People can take anything as offensive, there is no tone when you read something except the one in your head so if i said "Nice Try" that could be read literally like im saying it was an actual good attempt or as cockiness and teasing. Its best to make sure your comments are as literal as you mean them so there is no misunderstanding.

Probably not. Reading into the situation, maybe it could be considered taunting, but doesn't seem like it would be worth reporting.

Of course, without any sort of chat log, I can't rule out the idea that the report came from something else that was said that would be considered 'verbal abuse'.

"Nice try" is very often taken as sarcasm, even if you meant it literally. A better choice might be "good try, [summoner]." For some reason, "good" seems to come across better than "nice," and including their name personalizes the compliment, showing that you're recognizing them and their attempt, not their failure.

This Jinx just seems a bit sensitive to comments like that. If I were in her position I wouldn't have reported you, but your comment would have seemed very prideful and cocky, which is something I dislike. Jinx was probably also a bit salty because by the sounds of it she was under leveled.
