Why doesn't Doran's shield's passive stack?

Every role except tanks can benefit from more than 1 Doran's item. Make tanks feel like tanks and let passive stack ffs. Even the ring has a passive that stacks. And as for the shield, there's no reason not to buy a Ruby Crystal over a second one. If i was Garen and died early in lane, had a poke lane or something similar, another shield would be great. But for the love of god, why would anyone let tanks be tanky? What evil and twisted person would want to do something like that??

The thing it really needs is to apply after armor. You buy it on tanky melees trying to deal with auto attack harass during the early laning phase and it directly anti-synergizes with the rest of your tankyness. What?

The problem is for bruisers taking it, they dish out a ton of damage and are tanky.

As much fun as this change would be, I know realistically it would be overpowered, stacking them would nullify so much damage from the enemy laner, and their is no way to actually counter the item.

Tanks are supposed to be jungling and have a somewhat weaker early game (damage wise) I do think tanks should be tankier early game, so they are more valuable.

I think the better question is why do the other dorans stack?

The problem behind it is basically a support going bot lane and having 2-3 of these and becoming more or less unkillable to an opposing ADC at the lower levels.

It would break top lane and tanking supports, just like it did before it was nerfed

Auz the Ripper2/5/2015, 4:08:05 PM1 votes

It'd be broken on certain champions Namely ones with high base damages and natural tankiness.

Imagine a Nasus or Mundo with flat 48 damage reduction, they'd become immovable boulders top lane, which would lead them nerf town and no one wants to visit there, it's a really bad neighborhood where they'd probably be mugged by the local gang, the Reds.

It'd be horrible for a lot of lanes, at least early. 8 damage block from attacks and spells, get 2 to 3 and then... welp, gg lane. The support could do it, a lot of mids could do it, there'd be no reason for tops not to do it since it'd guarantee safe farming.

Or how about just buff Doran's Shield as there is literally no reason to buy it over Ruby + 2 pots and Flask + 3 pots. Its a terrible item that offers extremely little value compared to the other 2 options.

MXXIV2/5/2015, 11:51:42 PM1 votes

The reason is simple. 16 less damage is TOO DAMN LOT!

LitoJ2/6/2015, 2:32:09 AM1 votes

Honestly I would simply prefer to have the old 10/5 HP regen. back if anything. I would also like to stack some shields however.

Envy Sin2/6/2015, 3:41:54 AM1 votes

Because they want kills to happen. If Shield was the old way then top lane would be how it used to be.

Two tanks. Sitting in lane. Farming.

Riot doesn't like that because it's boring to watch in the LC$

Meep Man2/4/2015, 12:55:39 PM1 votes

I would like this although they would probably reduce the damage reduction to 7 from 8 because of it.

Ale non è male2/4/2015, 11:15:02 PM1 votes

This is uncorrect. The only Doran item that stacks is Doran's Ring because the passive mana regain stacks Doran's Blade stack as well as Doran's Shield do, it's just that the 6% lifesteal is more valuable than the 12 health regen per 5 seconds and so no one rushes double Doran's Shield while it is possible that somone run double Doran's blade

SaltyKracka2/5/2015, 2:16:23 AM1 votes

Wouldn't that require Doran's Shield to be worth purchasing, though?

I mean, seriously, if I want to sustain through a lane, I'll take cloth 5 or Flask 3. Doran's shield is just...lame compared to actual sustain right now.
