What Exactly is the Point of Placements?

I crushed my placement matches, went 7-3, and had a pretty solid performance even in the games I lost.

Apparently that is irrelevant, as I got placed in Bronze 3 anyways, despite my MMR being Silver 3 before even going into my last placement.

So either Riot's standards have shot up, or they decide where you will place before you even start placements. So why did I have to waste my time playing 10 games, when you could just put me in Bronze 3 and give me those 10 games to climb?

I've been wondering the same thing.

I understand the need for placements of a fresh lvl 30 account, but if you have played ranked the season before why don't they just place you like a whole division below where you finished the previous season, since it seems like they just do that anyways?

To determine how much LP you gain per win pretty much.

Nothing at all... lol. Especially when we 100% place lower then we did before.
