Is Kog'Maw ADC a good pick in Bronze?

Best Kog NA··2 votes·2,700 views

I have had to stop picking it in Bronze (The elo I'm at b/c I'm trash) because I'm not the best at positioning and teamfights are rare. Is there anything I can do to change up my playstyle to make him viable in Bronze? Or should I just git good?

If you're good at a champion you should be able to climb. If you're not climbing, you have room to improve.

Don't listen to these assholes. The answer is no, Kog is team reliant and you won't be getting any good peel on the lower end of the elo pool.

Now since everyone here is obviously challenger rank they will argue that you could climb with Kog and IF that was the case then yes, you probably could, however you willingly admit you're not that good (which is a good thing, you're more likely to improve) and so you should stick to champs that are strong in the current meta. Mess around with several champs/roles and find what works best for you.

I've found Mid Lane Kog'Maw works better. I've switched from maining mid / bot to mid / top with Hecarim as top lane. Thanks for the one answer that actually answered the question lol.

git gud. Everything is viable in bronze with enough skill.

I could play ADC Nami in Bronze and get 20 kills. If youre good at him play him.

hm.. thinking of it, how is adc nami worse than the pre-rework ashe who had no steroid in her kit?

I know those are. I'm just asking is there anything that I can do to change my playstyle to make it easier to play Kog'Maw ADC in bronze?

In bronze you can play anyone, and it boils down to individual skill. Anything you might lack in mechanics you can make up for in decision making.

I literally played draven for the first time recently on an account I have in bronze ranked. It wasn't pretty and the number of dropped axes was tragic, but I still won my lane, which is kinda disgusting because first time draven on a support main is not a good thing(tm).

Generic tips for bronze:

Don't tunnel on kills, just farm, wait for someone (on the enemy team) to do something stupid, punish them for it, repeat until you're super fed.

Don't die. If theres no vision, don't go there and plead with your support to maybe perhaps consider buying a sightstone. If not, do what little you can with yellow/blue and wait for opportunities to show up. Potentially use foolish teammates as living mobile wards if they're not good for much else (aka watch the minimap).

That's not what the question was asking though.

I thought you were asking about playstyle tips (e.g. the latter half of my post).

If you're only asking "Is kogmaw adc a good champ in bronze?" the answer is yes, since every champion is good in bronze since counters don't exist and overall meta potential strength doesn't mean much since no one is remotely close to the potential of any given champion.

If you're really asking if you should "git good", then that never hurts.

But Kog'Maw as a champion relies heavily on his team protecting him for him to do damage. Something that's very rare in bronze.

He only relies on his team to protect him in so far as he doesn't really have escapes himself. Both adcs with escapes and those without should play safely though, with what qualifies as 'safely' depending on how fed you are, and all adcs are going to die promptly if they don't have a team peeling for them.

Kog is probably in the top 3 for being able to do damage safely though, due to the extra range on his w and the range on his ult. (Cait and ulting twitch being others. Honourable mention to late game trist.) If someone is able to diver you in the back and instakill you, playing a 'safer' adc isn't going to prevent that.

At the start, cling to the tower. As you get a farm lead or pick up a few kills, then you can venture out a little bit based on vision. As you pick up more kills/farm eventually you'll be able to 1v1 anyone, so you can split push until you don't have vision of two members. Eventually you'll get big enough that you can 2v1. More kills still, 3v1. etc.

Of course in practice usually theres someone getting fed on the enemy team that you need to be extra wary of, but no matter what adc you play, you should be playing safely. If you understand that, you can and will get fed in bronze, because other people in bronze do not understand that and get impatient trying to make something happen. And as an adc, getting fed means you can kill people and more importantly take down objectives. This is true regardless of if you're adc vayne, adc kog, or adc janna, since most adc's power comes primarily from their items rather than their abilities.

One thing to know is in low elo different things are viable. While Kog'Maw can be an okay pick (despite his 45% winrate bot lane) he is very team reliant and that's not something you can learn to expect in bronze. He requires above average positioning, farming, kiting etc to be efficient and if you're not confident in your ability to do so then I don't advise him. Work on your cs, positioning, warding (even as an adc it's great to ward), and be sure you know who to focus. Kog'Maw isn't as great in low elo as he is higher up just based on his need for a team.

All that being said if you enjoy Kog'Maw keep at him and I'm sure you can improve and climb out of bronze!
