Unique Crit Toggles
Watchu talkin' about, Rebo? What's this nonsense?
Well I'm glad you asked, my hypothetical inquirer. This concept is a refinement of an idea of posted before, modified to take advantage of a mechanic currently used only on Muramana to make Crit itemization a little more interesting. Because right now? Right now I think Crit could afford to be a little more interesting beyond just giving us a bunch of really bland stat-sticks.
To start out, this concept assumes that Malady is a thing (Dagger + combine = 30% IAS and 15 OnHit damage). It also assumes that Crit Chance runes no longer exist to prevent 1% Crit cheese. Wicked Hatchet is imported to Summoner's Rift and loses its passive, becoming a raw AD/Crit item. Further, each of the major Crit items (excluding Yomama's Ghostblade and Trinity) now have a unique named toggle, Critical Augmentation. When you toggle one of them on, the other toggles get turned off. The idea is to give the Crit user some interesting tools and choices with their use of Crit rather than the 'stack ALL the crit!' scenario we have at the moment.
So now the items!
Infinite Edge now builds out of Wicked Hatchet, Pickaxe, and Cloak of Agility. Infinity Edge loses its current passive. Its toggle augments your critical hits to ignore 33% of the target's armor. This breaks even with the damage on the current Infinity Edge if the target has 150 or more armor. Basic idea is to make Infinity Edge the anti-tank Crit item rather than the anti-everything Crit item.
Static Shiv now builds out of Malady, Zeal, and a Cloak of Agility. Its toggle causes your Crits to no longer deal double damage. Instead, they release a Chain Lightning effect that deals magic damage equal to your total attack damage. Additionally, your OnHit effects proc twice on critical hits. This item is meant to be the go-to for OnHit champions. Pretty straight forward, yeah?
Phantom Dancer now builds out of two Zeals and a Wicked Hatchet. Its toggle causes Crits to give you a stacking attackspeed, movespeed, and attack damage buff. In terms of going fast and raw damage output, Phantom Dancer should be tuned as the generalist damage item since it's the generalist damage item.
Executioner's Calling returns! It builds out of Wicked Hatchet, a Vampiric Sceptor, and a Cloak of Agility. Its toggle makes your crits bleed the target for (percentage of your bonus AD) physical damage and applies Grievous Wounds for 3 seconds. This is the dualist/anti-dualist crit item. It also provides AD champions with a much-needed source of healing reduction.
Well there you go! A few ideas for making Crit items a little more interactive and less of a heap of stat-sticks. Riot said they wanted to make more active/toggle items and I figure this is a great place to start given that ADCs of various flavors typically build none.
