Honest Post About Supports and Needed Overhaul.

Lets keep it as simple as possible and keep the love at the same time :)

Personally support look like they need a much needed overhaul in-game due to the fact they just dont have a good toolset or items that balance out their kits.

From Soraka building AP to buff her heals (which no Soraka stacks outright AP) to Janna having AP scaling on her shield, to tank supports getting more self shields per health they have themselves.

PERHAPS a new stack is needed, one that overhauls all support style champs that gives a % ration on all their abilities off CC and protection to reduce the amount of weird builds and downright uselessness as support and help them be able to carry, because lets face it, if you're supporting, you either are a support main or you got auto filled there cause no one wants the role, because no one feels like they have an impact on the game.

in reality, if you're are 0/3/18 on support Janna, your shield only lasts about 6 seconds give or take the level, and has about a 10 second cooldown, meaning as a essentially +6 KDA on Janna, youre almost useless if not for your shield and ult which mostly disengage. so a +6 KDA champ who is more than ready to carry has been nearly locked into a set playstyle on just how Janna's kit is designed. Which is based around other champions playing their part, meaning youre team reliant, meaning the game is nearly out of your hands. Pair that Janna with a positive KDA Ashe and we should be ok, now pair that with a negative Ashe and you will be hard pressed to get that Janna off the ground because she has little potential to carry herself.

Final thoughts,

Supports need a new stat that brings carry potential to teh role when others are not pulling their own, AP and health scaling are not good implements on supports being that most supports will not be going for a solid AP build to maximize their scaling like most ADCs would. The role feels ignored due to a lack of feeling that they can make a difference in mid early or even late game, when you see certain champion have threshholds where they get a powerspike from a certain item or ability. They cant reach items to support with fast enough and they dont offer large enough buffs or stats to make enough of a difference or a lasting influence in the skirmish (even more so when you pop an AoE shield on your team and then 3 AoE Ultimates rip through it like it was never used).

We are lost, we are overlooked and we are constantly falling behind. We sacrifice gold and kills to further the team only to have good play potential and good KDA's but cant carry.

Thoughts and feelings? :3 Janna Bard Blitzcrank Braum Leona Lulu Nami Rakan Sona Soraka Taric Thresh Zilean

While I do agree with you that when it comes to the Support role some things do need to change, from champions to items. Overall though, I think it's in a good place. When it comes to champions, personally I think most of them are in a good place, Janna is perfectly capable of carrying a crap team, which I know from firsthand experience, but then there are those like Soraka and Blitz who need some fixing. Blitzcrank is very lackluster as a support but at the same time excels quite well at doing it, he has an annoying grab, a knockup, and a silence, but the issue is his damage. He's suppose to be a tank but he has some of the highest base damage in game and 2 abilities with 100% AP ratios making you question why you SHOULDN'T build full AP on him, but another issue is what he does in team fights, or better yet the lack of what he does. Once he grabs somebody that's it, there isn't much, all he can really do is full combo somebody then wait 20 seconds till all his abilities are back up. With Soraka she's just not in a very good place at all, you either build the basic support build and hope you win or build full AP and heal for more damage than the enemy team can actually deal. She suffers from being both to weak and to strong at the same time. Lulu just needs some flat out nerfs to her damage, not big nerfs but just minor nerfs, she's really just a Janna who can deal crazy damage.

Now with items, most of them are actually ok in my opinion, Ardent Censor is great item on basically every support that can heal or shield making it a must have on Soraka and Janna. With the introduction of Redemption, which was nerfed but is still a great item on literally every support, came the updated version of Locket of The Iron Solari, which is also a very good support item. But also came a bunch of items that are basically useless, with Mikael's Crucible its active just has way to long of a cooldown to make it of any use and is generally lackluster, I really only get it for +20% Healing and Shielding Power. Knight's Vow is only a good item for Leona and Thresh due to them being the only ones tanky enough to even use it, which is then stil a stretch to since Knight's Vow redirects the damage to you as true damage when they really should have just kept is a regular damage. Finally with Athene's Unholy Grail, it's just not a good item, it's passive makes 0 sense abd isn't even that usefull, and it doesn't even give enough AP to make up for it.

Support is shit because the League playerbase makes just about everything an unrewarding chore. If supports were shit on less, they'd be played more and they wouldn't just be walking items.

The whole point of the role is to surpass what a DPS would bring you. We have Brand, Zyra and Malzahar for damage alternatives and the entire reason we have two bot is to prevent your ADC from dying (or in Blitzcrank's case, allowing THEM to snowball).

The role does not need an overhaul. The role itself isn't preferred in solo queue because it's working as intended. And it's also very functional with competent teammates, as seen constantly in the pro scene and even in normal games. Nobody cares about support as a role usually to ever notice when they're doing their job correctly.

I'll agree to items but we only have a very specific few that are not that good. It'd make more sense to change THOSE instead of insisting on an entire role rework.

Similar to Thresh lantern scaling with souls collected, need more changes like these

I would definitely like to scale on something else but AP.

Taric for example scales on AP AND armor, and I feel this works pretty erll considering his build paths and identity. It would be nice for other support to scale on a special stat, let's call it EP, Enchanter Power, that is supplied by support items.

This also solves the issue of mages taking support items if they are too gold efficient.

Ok this is stupid and the fact that SirLapse got downvoted by the "support mains" on these boards is a joke lmao. I main support and top since S4 and seeing people think Support can't carry in low elo is a joke. Play Zyra, Karma, Malzahar, Camille if you want to carry. Play Janna, Lulu if you want to peel. Rakan is exciting and can carry. Thresh is played alot because of his outplay potential and mechanical skill. Why does every role have to carry?

The reason support is so unappealing to many is because it is a low gold income role as u don't farm and baby an ADC. This is countered by actually being good and winning lane on Zyra/Karma so you can buy strong items and carry. Janna and Lulu and the others like that PEEL and it is ur choice to play them and rely on ur adc as that is there PLAYSTYLE. Also funny how people think sightstone should not be encouraged to be bought on supports. That is the funniest thing I have read in a while. It's like tanks complaining about building tanky and not full AD/AP.

Riot said that they are looking at a handful of supports after this patch, namely Janna, Nami, Sona and a few more

It's not going to be a massive rework, but hopefully a step in the right direction on giving these champions a better identity then "Im basically x but worse"

I think the next class-update should take care of the support role, their items and update some enchanter-champs I also think a utility stat for supports would solve the balancing issues of their items
